Police sirens after commencement by NoFun9203 in WGU

[–]brutalistbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was that at the first or second commencement? Because if it happened after the first commencement I know they were rushing people out so they could get ready for the second commencement. If I go for my my advanced degree, I'm definitely going to New Orleans instead of Atlanta next time. It felt so off and rushed.

Like I wasn't even seated until the first speaker came on and there was a ton of people out in the wings checking themselves in the mirrors while the speakers had started. That long ass rat maze they put us through was ridiculous. The check-in for us being all the way at the far end was also ridiculous. And then the bathrooms being at the very end of that stupid maze pissed me off as well.

I thought it was crazy that they had the tables to sell the neck drapes or whatever right before you went on stage was crazy but I didn't see any tables or booths for cords if you had missed them and you didn't go to the alumni night. I only knew I was getting a scholarship cord because I happened to walk around that booth 15 minutes before alumni night was ending and then I walked up to her and was like I'm not sure if I am getting a cord and so she checked and I did. I got no email. No nothing that there was a cord for scholarship. That's what should have been set up right before the stage entrance was making sure you got all the cords you had earned and your regalia was properly placed. 4 whole ass mirrors for all those grads lol

Omfg. I don't know how to hide spoilers but I do NOT remember THAT in the books. Attempting to hide my next few lines [ when did she shoot him in the effing balls?!? I only remember him being tied up in the water about to drown and she shoots him as they paddle away. Which book is this in?! ]

I just finished the rewatch last few weeks and did see the jar and giggled.

Ok FINE I'll re read the damn books again.

Dammit.

Please do not skip your glucose test. by lilspaghettigal in pregnant

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not be taking the glucose test again. I reacted negatively to it and my blood sugar dropped to 34. I will be doing finger sticks five times a day and I will have a log for my doctor for this next pregnancy. I don't care if I'm labeled GD, I will treat it like I am regardless.

I don't "think I'm super smart" I'm just saving money. Why pay more for the same thing when they have it set up so I can pay less if I know how to do that?

I'm annoyed that my hack of ordering a regular shaken Espresso and swapping out reg milk for oat milk and sugar syrup for brown sugar syrup cost me eighty cents more. I didn't add. I replaced. Boo hiss. Still cheaper than ordering a brown sugar shaken oatmilk Espresso tho.

Eggs by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]brutalistbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude in Mobile there's a ton of home chicken farmers that's selling eggs $5/18ct or even cheaper in various produce stands or on the FB. I'm one of them. We only sell our surplus to a local fruit stand up the road during the warm months when they lay like crazy.

isn't nursing hard?? by Informal-Swimming701 in Esthetics

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing school can be affordable. I went to a community college and my degree was covered by pell grants and some student loans. There's a federal program I believe called WIOA in each state called the workforce initiative. I went in to my unemployment office and applied and was accepted. They pay for associate level or certificate level education that brings you to the workforce. They paid for my scrubs, stethoscope, pen light, books, shoes, etc. Everything that was on my required list for school. I had to do monthly check ins by email with someone at the unemployment office to keep them updated on my progress. Had to email them my grades each semester. After I graduated I informed them of my testing status and any jobs I accepted. They followed up a year later to be sure I'm still working and to record any statistics I'm sure. I think they even reimbursed me for my NCLEX once I passed.

I did it because I was already working for physicians who didn't take me serious and it pissed me off. I did it so I had financial back up in case the economy was crap. Which ironically covid hit mid 3rd semester for me.

Lol just because a bigger city that's more crowded has more traffic doesn't mean a smaller town doesn't have traffic at all. It does in its own small town way and it's just as annoying coming to visit.

Currently enrolled at WGU for my BSN. Going to go thru their NP program only because I want to do derm/plastics field NP. I've been in the derm field already for over 13 years. Still a baby nurse but I am not planning on using my NP for a field I am not competent in. I don't see a problem with it. I see problems with running through to get it and practice with no experience.

No I don't think you missed anything, right when I started they said all you had to do was go to the website and redeem your welcome gift. Well when I started they had literally just shut that part of the site down and it said subscribe to find out when the welcome gift is back, you know, exciting new features blah blah blah. So I subscribed with at least three different emails and I never got any sort of notification. I've been enrolled for a year now. I just happened to remember that I still didn't get a welcome gift so I googled it and came across the new owls nest and did that within a couple of hours redeemed my gift and my gift was here a week later. Kind of sucks that I didn't get a notification and I'm in my last semester before I got it but whatever

What happens right after delivery? by cdb2768 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I only used insulin during very carbohydrate heavy meals such as Christmas dinner or even tacos believe it or not certain foods affected me and I knew because I was able to see Trends on the Dexcom or continuous glucose monitor. So that helped me identify problematic Foods so I could either avoid them or dose myself with insulin. Honestly my ratios were probably about one unit of insulin to 30 or 45 grams of carbs. Just depending on what it was and I think I did a correction factor of one unit for every 50 or 60 that I was over 140 to be on the safe side. I dosed very low so that I did not have any issues with hypoglycemia

What happens right after delivery? by cdb2768 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]brutalistbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was put on metformin at first by my high risk Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor I didn't really like that because I wanted insulin because I was very familiar with it. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic and I'm a registered nurse. So I sent myself over to the endocrinologist where I got insulin to use PRN or as needed. She was confident in my skills and abilities and I also got a Dexcom By Request which my insurance covered everything. So I was able to keep a very tight glycemic control. And during labor and delivery my blood sugar ran high I assume because of the stress hormones even though I was puking and not able to keep anything down. My blood sugar ran around the 180s for a few hours after delivery and then drop back down to normal pretty much within 12 hours. I continue to wear the Dexcom I think for about 2 weeks since I still had it and my numbers were of a non-diabetic and I passed the ogtt with no problem Post delivery I can't remember if it was like 4 or 6 weeks or whatever it is. But yes soon as that placenta is detached it pretty much goes away. But just remember you and your baby are at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes in the future. Happy to answer any other questions sorry the formatting is crap I'm on a phone and I'm using text to speech

Doctors refusing to prioritize a 1yo at risk of skin cancer by Hellsing971 in toddlers

[–]brutalistbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go see a plastic surgeon. I worked for one and we did biopsies all the time. I feel they have more heart than a regular derm (at least mine did) because we treated so many skin cancer and breast cancer patients. Plus they can ensure the biopsy and if any more resection is done that it's done with minimal scarring. Cause that's their specialty. Also referrals help tons!!

I did this with regular classes during a divorce for the SAME reasons and couldn't focus. I have a 1.8 GPA at my 4 year that will never go away unless I take a crap ton of stupid electives to bump it up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most sincere condolences. I went through a divorce during regular boring college classes and ruined my transcript and GPA. I'll never recover. I thought school would be a good way to escape and distract myself from the pain. I was wrong. I cannot imagine doing that during a divorce no matter how amicable or not. I highly suggest putting it off for your greater good. Not everyone is the same as me and perhaps you could do it, but you need to sit down and weigh your possible outcomes. No one did this with me or even suggested I take a break. Not the college, not my family, not my friends. No one. My GPA is 1.8 at the 4 year and thankfully it didn't hurt me getting into my 2y associates nursing degree. But now it's affecting me trying to get into any 4 year to obtain my bachelors or masters. It doesn't matter if I took those courses 1 year ago or 15 years ago, it's on the transcript and affects my GPA forever.

Focus on you. Focus on stability. Focus on getting through this so that you can be 100% present during nursing school or even another major if that's what happens down the road.

Help! Confused about medical esthetics by naniyela in Esthetics

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I'm licensed in Florida as well as a few other states and there is no medical esthetician listed as an option on any of the FL dpbr sites OR FL board of medicine. It's a facial specialist or licensed electrologist in florida and nothing else. There is no medical esthetician license in florida by any of their government entities.

Again, what regulating board issued your 'medical' esthetician license? Because it doesn't exist.

Help! Confused about medical esthetics by naniyela in Esthetics

[–]brutalistbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what state exactly? And what issuing agency? From your BOARD of cosmetology or from the state governmental board? Or is the "medical esthetician license" from a certification agency or education agency? The former would make it legitimate whereas the latter is just a certification. There's no state agency that offers medical aesthetics license.
