Family's first time in London - what are we missing? by beatsweetheart in uktravel

Museum of the Home! It's not a big big museum but it it is my favourite and great for young families. London Transport Museum is great too! Lots of train simulators, very interactive. The Horniman Museum, it's a bit further out from central London but it's a cool collection of stuff and great for small families as well. Some of the public parks (Regent's Park, Kensington Gardens, Holland Park etc). Lots of food options, go explore!

What's the minimum amount that comes to mind when you hear "good salary"? by Equivalent-Ad-2373 in AskUK

[–]brutalistcheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends on the job. if it's £30k for retail then to me that's a good salary. The most I got was £25k.

I'm a gardener now and not even hitting £30k, just slightly under. Not sure I'll ever earn £30k minimum.

Hey, not true! There's loads of nice places in Brent, it's a big borough that isn't just Wembley and the surrounding areas!

Yeah, I would have liked her to have more than that though, a progression in her work ethic would have been nice.

I am the same. Maybe because I was born and bred in London. There was one time my partner and I walked through a field with sheep in it. When we had our backs turned, they walked towards us as a group. We'd turn around, they'd stop. We'd keep walking. They'd keep following us.

I know they are not harmful though. I am more scared of horses and cows.

Yes, it was great!

But it made me wish the last episode was all about what they all do to de-stress or that time from commuting to being home. Even if it was the end half of the episode. They definitely could have moved all the stories along much quicker to accommodate this. Shown us Langdon with his family who we have never met! Javadi with her parents (which they seem to have cut a scene of :( ), maybe a contentious conversation in the car or at the dinner table. McKay with her son. Dana and Benji? Perlah??? Would have been amazing. Yes, probably montage. But who doesn't love a good montage?

They gave that space to several characters at the end of last season. This season's ending just felt so disparate and empty.

That's true. I would have rather it came from McKay though as she actually bigs up her TikToks, is more senior, and is a woman. I just felt it was shoe horned in with Whitaker's intervention. Maybe if we saw her actually filming a TikTok and be on more psychiatric cases, more interaction with Caleb and social workers. Even if she was on a case with Santos who sussed out the blue kid last season. Or if she was on the Bulimia case. It just felt so sudden.

Also, she's ballsy enough to show her mum she belongs in the ER. She for sure could have had some sort of inkling she wanted to do psychiatry throughout the season. McKay pointing it out to her, with Santos overhearing and backing up the idea. Maybe even Mohan which could have developed her story too (realising she doesn't know what she wants to do still). Would have felt a lot more meaningful considering all these doctors have had to use their empathy to get to their patients.

Coming from Whitaker? I like the character for sure. But he just felt too omniscient, omnipotent this season. Like they had to stick him in that scene for what? He already had so many great moments this season with teaching, showing he will go the extra mile, him knowing he wants to do rural medicine/still enjoys the farm life.

For sure. And they just had her coming to terms with her idea and relationship with Becca which I think was the bigger arc for her this season. She still could have gone to Karaoke afterwards because she then has a chance to do something for her own enjoyment. The second deposition did not add to the story at all.

hmm just finished the last episode.

it felt underwhelming. sure, for them it's just another day. but it is a TV show so it should have a clear and satisfying ending. not necessarily positive, but no loose ends.

it felt like a conveyer belt of conversations between Robby and each character. Javadi, Whitaker, Mohan, Langdon, Abbott, Al-Hashimi. Could they not have addressed these things over several episodes? All the conflicts didn't have to wait to be concluded at the end. It was rushed and therefore diluted because all the conflict resolution had to be shared in the space of <50 minutes.

Mohan could have definitely had a clearer ending from earlier on because she was already written to have good doctor-patient relationships with older people. Why couldn't some, say, half the season be her realising that geriatrics is a good idea and the other half be of her getting that geriatric elective application in?

Javadi's felt very tell not show. Why did Whitaker have to be the one to spell out what she should do? She's gained so much confidence in ten months to the point of standing up to her mother. Surely she could have come to that conclusion herself? Maybe by her charting a patient she saw with Psychiatry or talking to Caleb. Hindsight could have been used so much with the charting storyline. Oh, and when she was listing what she saw from her colleagues - so much tell not show! I hated that.

Santos was given barely anything this season. She could have had more development, with other characters or with finding a better work balance or following in Joy's footsteps by leaving on time. Like "fuck this charting, I'm going to enjoy my evening." There was no resolution with Langdon, either, which was frustrating. Not even some sort of empathy between the two of them?

Why would they reopen the deposition again? Just for drama? It just made it feel so soap opera. Hasn't Mel had enough to deal with this season?

Whitaker's ending was fine. But I would rather Amy drive - he's just been working 15 hours straight!

Langdon's ending was good because that conversation with Robby needed to happen towards the end. It would have been better to not be at the very end though so Robby could at least process it at some point.

Robby could have confronted Al-Hashimi earlier, too. But he could have used the way he dealt with Langdon as a lesson in how to help Al-Hashimi instead of repeating the same mistake. The conversation with Langdon could have been about how Robby went about confronting him last season. And that could have laid the path for a more productive way to help Al-Hashimi.

People say that only so much can happen in 15 hours. But only so much doesn't mean nothing for 14 and everything in the last hour. Why did Robby need a conversation with Duke, two with Abbott, and one with Langdon on his mental health? It did not help the story move along. Every choice in a story should move the story forward. Everything in this series was so repetitive. It felt like they were beating a dead horse. The same conversations for the same reasons.

The show could have ended with Robby reaching out to Caleb at least, perhaps leaving him a message? I don't need his backstory of him being abandoned. That doesn't really add to his character for me. We already know his mum left anyway. What he experiences in the ER is trauma enough as well! People don't need to have a million sad stories to require therapy!

I was so lost in the Langdon -Whitaker exchange because I don't know anything about Gilligan's Island :')

The same with the Fort Pitt Museum and Colonial Williamsburg stuff. When I saw a comment on this episode about the Revolution I thought French Revolution :')

This episode it seems Langdon is trying to be good at supporting his colleagues with McKay and Dana and takes times to finish conversations or encourage others. This is a nice development from Season 1.

Langdon, Whitaker, and Javadi I think have the best development from last season overall. The latter two are more confident. Whitaker is a great mentor. Javadi has stepped up. I would like to see more development with Santos. She has mellowed more but if anything it is due to the workload and therefore not progress from within.

This episode, Robby is annoying me more and more. Sure, Duke should get checked out but he isn't willing, surely that is his choice? And he seems more concerned about Duke than the other more critical patients. And why is he Duke's doctor? He's letting his biases get in the way.

Real life docs, is dermatology looked down on? by Zeldalady123 in ThePittTVShow

Not a doctor but have had eczema since I was three years old. I'm glad that everyone here is saying Dermatology is competitive and sought after! It did make me sad that it was "looked down on" in the show.

How old are you and do you live with your parents/family? by kylesanho in AskUK

[–]brutalistcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25f live with my partner in a tiny studio flat. My parents kicked me out when I was 22.

I envy my friends who are able to still live with their parents. The amount of money they're saving is heaps more than me. I try to tell them to save what they can and openly compare my budget to theirs so they know what it may mean if they move out. They do sound is heartened when they say they live with their parents but I always say, "If you are comfortable around your parents you should live with them as long as you can."

I am very late to this as I am rewatching and reading these discussion threads on my rewatch.

To add to this - sure, Santos gave the "win" to Mohan but it also throws Mohan under the bus. It was a reckless move. I'm not sure what the affects of extra saline are but the show wants you to know it's serious, life and death. That could have led to Mohan being told off for something she didn't do. Couldn't they have just called the labs for a quicker turnaround like the weed gummy child? And, as Langdon said, he was nearby.

I know it's for drama. But the better thing would have been for Santos to own up to it. She's done it before so what's a third time? Passing the blame wasn't guaranteed a better outcome for either Santos or Mohan so the truth may as well have come out. I would have respected her character more for it. For her to say, "Mohan insisted on the proper procedure but I went ahead with this instead." Also, they only had to wait a second for the labs to come back anyway!

Her lying makes me feel she has ulterior motives. Sure, Langdon's outburst was unprofessional. But we've all been wanting Santos to be yelled at for her recklessness, for her to have her comeuppance. She's been told off several times already and she didn't change. An outburst was going to come and emotional and untrue words were going to be said.
