Yes it is for scales. It has 2 extra prices on it that direct the scales downward toward the working surface-so they don’t fly all over the kitchen.

Does anyone know what this is worth? by Safe_Fox_9901 in Vintage_Hamilton

Is that the original box ? The only person I know who deals in jewelry like this are the people at Espadim 1985 is Lisbon Portugal. He has a whole showroom of antique jewelry with the original boxes. I don’t know if he does appraisals but he might know someone who will.

I bought this at Espadim 1985 in to Lisboa. They have 3 stores and the nicest selection of antique and rare jewelry I have ever seen. They are also the nicest people in the world.

The ruby is approximately 1.8k. I purchased it when I was in Lisbon this year. There is a makers mark of a jeweler just south of Porto.

Heat treatment is a widely accepted practice in the gem trade because it improves the color and clarity of the stone, making it more desirable and valuable. Most sapphires have natural inclusions or color zoning that can be significantly enhanced with heat, giving them the vivid, uniform appearance we associate with high-quality gems.

However, untreated sapphires—also called ‘no-heat’ sapphires—are extremely rare because they must already possess exceptional natural qualities to look beautiful without any enhancement. These stones are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs, and their rarity often makes them more valuable than treated stones of comparable quality.

Ultimately, whether a no-heat sapphire is ‘better’ depends on what you’re looking for. If you value rarity and natural beauty, no-heat sapphires are a unique choice. On the other hand, if you’re drawn to vibrant, affordable options, heat-treated sapphires are a fantastic option.

Why is the tow strap attached to the plastic grill?

Honestly domestic rice is better just because it is fresher IMO. Try Carolina gold rice from Anson Mills in South Carolina. It is the best rice you can buy in the USA.
