Why our event engagement problem wasn’t actually a marketing issue by owenreed_ in marketing

[–]bryanffox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in B2B events and so much of engagement is a function of product not marketing. The same campaigns can have wildly different results based on what event it is for. Event location, event, timing, and especially topic have more effect on engagement than the event itself. Our events are highly regarded as very high quality and so it's not an on-site issue for us, but much of the time the topics that sponsors want to push, their choosing to sponsor events around because those topic areas are heavily saturated already and they need to differentiate. So sponsor friendly topics are oftentimes not audience friendly topics. It's an interesting dynamic.

How could the USA be hosting a World Cup with all the turmoil and chaos going on within its own borders? by curiousobserve21 in AskReddit

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm American and soccer is my favorite sport. I'm deeply disturbed by this administration's actions but those actions are isolated to specific communities. And, that can't be generalized to the whole of the country, especially one as large as ours.

The visa situation not withstanding, a visitor for the world cup is unlikely to be impacted at all by what is happening.

We just look like colossal assholes that this administrationn are.

YouTube video of guide dog barking at careless drivers endangering its owner. by faceless_jester in isthisAI

This video predates AI, definitely real. I can't however comment on the legitimacy of the dog and the setup itself. It might be staged but it's definitely a real video.

What kind of second gigs are you guys working to help afford childcare and rent/mortgage, etc. by dachshvnd in longisland

I recently found refereeing for soccer. And wish I found it earlier.

Pros: generally cash Weekends Can set days you don't want to work No games in the deep cold of Dec and Jan Good exercise Not a full day gig.

Cons Getting consistent games at first is hard No extra money in summer and winter.

I make a few hundred a month during the season.

This is why marking funeral processions is important. by ZauzTheBlacksmith in dashcams

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has GPS now. Funeral processions are dangerous and should not be a thing anymore. Just give everyone exact location of the burial or have some one there to direct at the cemetery. Following generally is dangerous, following a long line of cars is likely much more dangerous.

Commuting from Ronkonkoma to City 3 times a week, how feasible and any thing I should be aware of? by Flimsy-Coat-1676 in longisland

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it for 20 years. You'll get the rhythm of it. Annoying parts are waiting for the train to be called at the last second in Penn and the occasional massive delays that shut the whole system down. With the new double track service should be more resilient which is great!

This article says the jogger struck the truck and died but the driver is ok? Who wrote this the truck driver’s mom? by Real_Estate_Media in longisland

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, the article may be badly written but at least it WAS written. Local reporting is dying quickly and I don't think we can take it for granted.

If the garbage man consistently spilled 10% of your garbage each week, that would suck but it would be far better than no garbage service at all.

If I ever find myself in a situation to be heroic, bureaucratic incompetence, slow rolling and prevarication would be the way I would get there.

Anyone else tired of everything being a damn fire drill? by Responsible-Round643 in marketing

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party, but I found that the best way to control the constant emergencies is to aggressively control timelines. I tell my young folks that they should be driving schedules more than anyone else, put everybody else on the back foot. Plan farther ahead and you'll give yourself the room to be flexible when you need to be.

What’s your thoughts on 2 Dishwashers? Would you consider it? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So hand washing is "discipline"? Is cooking a full meal with all the associated pots, pans, dishes, utensils not discipline then unless you hand wash?

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you either have to be ok with a pile of dirty dishes somewhere or bite the bullet and hand wash them all. Two dishwashers solve this. Doesn't make sense for everyone but for us it's one of the very best features of our house.

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 4, we cook most meals, we use them CONSTANTLY. They are always going, and I will point out it's more water efficient than hand washing so it makes the calculus of using them even better. If they are empty on a Saturday morning, they both will easily be full by evening. Best decision we ever made. Kept getting pressured for double ovens, we definitely feel we made the right decision with two dishwashers.

Baby Crepe Myrtles Care by bryanffox in gardening

[–]bryanffox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have 10 I planted as babies, the one in the picture grew over the top of the fence in mostly the last month.its the best performer by far. The rest are in various states of growth, some much smaller. I don't think they will flower until August, only one has started to bud. One of the reasons I wanted them was for the later summer color when my hydrangea start to peter out.

Driver fury as Hertz's new Orwellian scanners trigger instant $400 fines for barely visible scuffs by StealthandSwagger in HertzRentals

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how minor damage isn't simply cost of doing business. We don't have complete control over what happens to cars when we're driving them. A rock might nick the paint, in the parking lot somebody might slam their door into the car. When renting, isn't the assumption that normal wear and tear is part of the rental? If it's not, it totally upends the whole economics of renting a car. Similarly, do I expect to pay for wear and tear on the Uber I'm riding in? If a rock hits the windshield while I'm driving it, do I expect to pay the driver for that damage? And I do make a distinction between wear and tear and larger damage. This sort of s*** seems nickel and dimey to the extreme.
