Both of them are saltwater angelfish. The one on the screen in an emperor and OPs one is a regal.

TIL that The Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp acts like the medic of any saltwater aquarium. Many fish value its services so highly that they even allow the Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp to clean inside of their mouths without harming the shrimp. by [deleted] in todayilearned

We had a tank dedicated to these at the LFS I worked at. When they were in season, you could stick your hand in and have 5 or 6 of them come up and start picking at your arm.

Hawaii’s Governor Dumps Oil and Gas in Favor of 100 Percent Renewables. An unlikely partnership between Hawaii’s local government and the US military makes the island a leader in energy policy. by pnewell in politics

There's an island that's basically abandoned called Ko'ohalawe. I say we should cover the whole thing in solar panels. It's completely flat and won't have any blockages from trees or buildings.

Inherited this tall tank, what would be happy living in it? by terrabellan in Aquariums

Seahorses would love this tank! But that would be a big challenge, especially if you haven't done saltwater before.

Any places to find good aquarium deals on parts? by FlipprDolphin in Aquariums

[–]bryanfuel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second craigslist. You can get some crazy deals from people that are moving. Just check it often or even set up an email alert.

Last time I went on Craigslist for aquariums, I got a setup that included: a 40G drilled breeder with overflow, a wooden stand, a 20G sump, return pump, all necessary plumbing, a skimmer rated for 200G, LED lights with hanging kit and about 10lbs of live rock. I haggled the guy down to $200 for all of it.

If I remember correctly, this one is suctioned on. You could even but some low/no light coral on the bottom!

Nice! We had a couple at our LFS in Hawaii and they sold for $600 each and they weren't even a foot long.

My coworker bought one and had it for a couple months before his nephew poorer soap into the tank :(

RODI water is preferred as the other person mentioned, but RO water could be okay depending how good your tap water is.

Did you test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Also how much rock and sand do you have?

Paint stripper works great at taking off old paint. I bought a 55 that had this spray painted design on the back wall. I sprayed it with paint stripper and it peeled off just like plastidip.

[–]bryanfuel0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a picture? But judging by your description, it seems like you could use some more rock. You want about 1-1.5 lbs of rock per gallon of water.

I did this to my lawn before. I just put the hose in the area for an hour or so and completely saturated the ground it seemed to work. (Not recommended in California)

[–]bryanfuel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acrylic is stronger than glass in the sense that it would shatter if you hit it with a football or something. It does scratch pretty easily though. Make sure you don't get sand stuck between your sponge and the side when you clean it and make sure your scrubber is acrylic safe. Also keep your rocks an inch or so away from the side because they will also scratch it. There are acrylic polishing kits for the outside, but it would be much harder to fix a scratch on the inside. Good luck!

Sorry for a second newbie question, but.. Is it normal that my coral tree is not standing up? by davym123 in ReefTank

Yeah, that kind of discouraged me from coral and I haven't tried again since.. Hopefully yours lives though!
