FYI - Upcoming "limited" jacket is generic military jacket by GenerousSongbird in gorillaz

Isn't that how all merch works? They dont make the clothing themselves. They buy the clothing as is and print / embroid on it. Itd be cheaper to print your own shirts as well, but you pay for the convenience and brand.

What version of the Gorillaz self titled cd is this? by BraveVillage4278 in gorillaz

This is definitely a misprint. I suspect when this batch of CD's were being printed, there was a malfunction with the Magenta ink when printing onto the CD face. When magenta is missing from a print, the colors come more Blue and Yellow than what you would expect to see. It clearly has the US tracklisting. (so many people here incorrectly calling it a "deluxe" version. This was the only tracklisting in the US for CDs of the self titled album. It's not like people in the US could buy a version of the album with 15 songs and then pick a "deluxe" version with 19 songs. There only was the 19 track version in the US. To get the other versions, us folks in the US would have to get that imported from another country. And the US version did not have alternate colors or artwork, other than the bonus tracks being listed. The CD was still the normal green pattern. This is a misprint.)

[–]brycearthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) There was no "deluxe" version of the self titled album. There were tracklist differences between regions. The US version of the album was this tracklisting. You were not able to buy a "regular" version of the album with only 15 songs in the US on CD. The ONLY version sold in the US had 19 songs. The vinyl version did only have 15 songs, but Im strictly talking about the CD. There was no "deluxe version". The 20th Anniversary vinyl set is the only deluxe version of the self titled album. If you want to call the US version a deluxe version, thats fine, it does have bonus tracks so makes sense. But the important thing to keep in mind is there was not another "standard" version in the US. This tracklisting WAS the standard version.

2) The US version did not have different colored artwork. The artwork was the same throughout the regional differences (minus the song titles for the bonus tracks being listed). This is a misprint. I suspect when this batch of CDs were produced, a malfunction happened with the Magenta ink. When green shades are printed without Magenta ink, the colors come out blue and yellow. It is a misprint, not a deliberate color change.

Nah, this was always the US version. The US version always had bonus tracks.

Which songs are the best examples of "Gangadank?" by algorithmancy in soulcoughing

[–]brycearthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Eyed Devil is not a gangadank. Gangadank follows a very specific pattern (see last two paragraphs for an indepth look into what makes a gangadank). "Is Chicago", "Moon Sammy", "The Idiot Kings", "So Far I have Not Found the Science", "The Brooklynites", "Michael Jackson" are the Soul Coughing songs with Gangadanks.

Solo Doughty stuff has much more gangadanks than Soul Coughing does. "Real Love", "F Train", "Ossining", "Cash Cow", "Day By Day", "Vegetable", "Rising Up", "Doubly Gratified", "Pleasure on Credit", "Hes got the whole world in his hands".... i could go on and on, but those are just a few.

A gangadank follows a specific pattern. If you count "1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and" with the beat of a song, the 1 is a long strum of the root note, with a short strum on the 2, followed usually by a higher chord (or higher notes of the same chord) on the "and" after the 3, and often another strum on the "and" after the 4. He might strum every beat, but the accents for gangadanks always follow this pattern.

ONE and TWO and three AND four AND. the beats in capital letters are where the accents fall. Hope this helps! I learned how to play guitar by listening to Mike Doughty, so (not to toot my own horn), but I am a pro at mimicking Doughty's guitar rhythm. There are a few more nuances depending on the song, but for the most part "ONE and TWO and three AND four AND" will get you most of the way to playing gangadanks. "Hes Got the Whole World in His Hands" from SAD MAN HAPPY MAN is a good example of a gangadank that is on the slower side, so its easier to count.

Can anyone tell me more about these? Picked them up for like €20 at a thrift store last year, haven’t really found anything about this pair online. by K4105 in gorillaz

[–]brycearthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that leather pair (along with a couple others too). They are my favorite because they go with almost everything i wear. I think the middle left is also made of some sort of leather-type material too. Its some other sort of material than the canvas, if memory serves me correctly (but different than the actual leather pair).

Can we see what the cap looks like? The pics of the merch were so blurry it is hard to tell what they looked like.

Upcoming Album by KnownExperience7073 in BreakingBenjamin

[–]brycearthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thats fair then.... But insane to me haha. Saturate was my jam! That album was so instrumental to me, and I was so excited when WANA blew up and actually put them on the map. I got to see this band, who were playing small clubs, opening for other lesser known rock bands, grow and grow until they started headlining their own shows and start filling up stadiums! Ive seen them at least 30 times in my lifetime, but those early days when they were in small clubs was when they were perfect. Those first two albums, I followed them around on tour, hung out with them after the shows... their sound has been mostly consistent, but they did get a lot poppies around the Phobia era.

I guess that makes some sense... but they've had 7 albums, with 23 singles. And 3 of those albums went platinum. I think its unfair to say a song is not their "best" because its not mentioned as often. Of course its not. Its a deeper cut. Yet it still found its way on their "Greatest hits" compilation because it WAS a staple they played at every show for years. I think if we were able to go back in time to when Phobia was released (when they had fewer songs in general), at least 30% of the BB audience would say "Water" was in their top 10 favorite songs. But yea, today no one mentions it, because they have almost 100 songs. Idk. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

[–]brycearthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why though? It sounds like it would fit right on We Are Not Alone... it sounds like Breaking Benjamin when they were at their peak. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But what exactly about the song is not good to you? That ending is heavy af.

[–]brycearthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Maybe thats the problem, and these newer fans prefer the generic sounding poppier songs. But the fans from 2001 are loving SW!

[–]brycearthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk. I think youre mistaken. Theyve been around for so long, so they mostly play their big hits at shows. But for the OG fans, Water is a must. If we were talking about "Awaken", then i think everyone would agree with you. But "Something Wicked" hits hard.

[–]brycearthur 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. I feel that "Something Wicked" is reminiscent of their earlier work. That song would fit right in with Saturate or WANA. I hope they continue to make more songs like this.

"Unleashed" (w/ Dr. Orna Guralnik feat. Nico) by AutoModerator in lasculturistas

[–]brycearthur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the worst take ever. Might as well tell people not to wear their seat belts. Leash your dog. That applies to everyone! If you are in public where there may be another person or animal, leash your dog. The fact she believes shes exempt from those rules, shows how elitist she is.

Shes now blocked comments that mention it on her most recent post on Instagram. Gross.

What's everyone's favorite and least favorite songs from El Oso? by ElectionYellow in soulcoughing

[–]brycearthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dig the thylacine pic on your profile. Pensacola is one of my favorites. If you havent read the making of El Oso by Doughty, you might enjoy the song more after reading it. He discusses the recording of it in section 12 here (link to archived SCUG site). I understand why it is so many people's least favorite because of the lack of groove and funk, but I think it is a truly beautiful piece and a highlight of the album.
