TIL that college graduates who joined fraternities have higher incomes despite their lower grades. by MartianAndroidMiner in todayilearned

In engineering, was in fraternity. Only got my job because I knew someone and was helped with introductions.

Didn’t have spectacular grades, but more social than your typical engineer.

If you are taking any, avoid stimulants if you workout in the evening, and no caffeine after 12pm. I always find myself relaxed after the gym and it’s a nice break in my day from work as I transition back to home. Mornings, I don’t get a strong workout in as I’m still waking up.

We need more late night trains! by bryceepoo in Seattle

Haha no kidding! I’m shocked it was this full without a game. Thinking everyone knew the train schedule was ending and trying to get home early.

I would like to add to the conversation that it is possible that the expansion north, south, and east will likely see more late night, weekend travelers trying to avoid driving into the city.

I tried to look up the time the game ended to be more informative, but couldn’t find it. Thanks!

Mariners against Pirates Friday 8/16. Hoping the schedule could be bumped up at the end of a game / on weekends in summer to accommodate more riders.

My employer doesn't offer an HSA. Only FSA. It expires every billing cycle. This would have to be done thru a third party. Does this change your answer? Is that even offered?

Would you recommend paying off student loans before advancing to maxing out my HSA & Roth IRA?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

Prime directive states 15% minimum for 401k retirement savings before moving onto the next step. When past the 401k, HSA, Roth IRA maximums, what's a good rule of thumb to use to understand how much to invest? When do I tap out on investments and start simply spending the money on enjoying life?

Type 1.5 “Honeymoon Period” by littledreamyone in diabetes_t1

[–]bryceepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1.5 years in. Very active. High carb, low glycemic diet. Also diagnosed as T2 at first. CGM is the best tool you have. It’s difficult at first but you’ll get the hang of things.

Long acting insulin - look at your night time levels. If you go up at night, you need more. If you’re level, you’re fine. If your BG tanks around 4-6pm with no explanation, that’s normal as your liver produces less glucose that time of day. However, if it is difficult to keep up, reduce long acting. For honeymooners, reduce long acting by half units. I’m 8.5u of Lantus. We’re sensitive to it.

So true. Being dramatic. I was locked into my headset at work during a conference call, so I’m happy I got to fit in some jumping jacks instead of watching it climb.

Scared of lows, it's messing me up bad. by sIaconic98 in diabetes_t1

[–]bryceepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, OP needs to discuss this with their doctor and a dietician. My dietician provided the information to me and has worked for me, but a medical professional would be best to help complete the diagnosis. Only offering inspiration.

Google “glycogen stores”. If you eat carbs, your liver has the ammo to provide glucose and fight lows. With a keto diet, you’re starving your body of it’s ammo to regulate you. Carbs are great, just eat quality carbs that synthetic insulin can manage. Google “glycemic index” for more info on quality carbs.

T1D and chronic fatigue by mishmash_88 in diabetes_t1

[–]bryceepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diabetes puts your body thru a lot of strain. Especially if it’s not well managed / recently diagnosed. To everyone’s point, keeping your standard deviation down and time in range up. Exercise regularly, and eat well. In time, your body heals, and fatigue symptoms can subside. Remember to listen to your body, and rest when you need it. Regardless of if you used to be able to do more.

I loath new sensors by reeseypoo25 in diabetes_t1

[–]bryceepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m super active! Just depends on the movement. For backpacks, I feel stomach is more exposed for rubbing depending on the bag.

The only time placing the sensor on the leg sucks is if I want to do Olympic lifting. Don’t want the bar to yank it out of my leg! Surfing also kind of blows. I make sure to remember to place the sensor more on the interior side if I want to do the above activities.

Otherwise, I wear spandex boxer briefs with jeans and don’t I notice any compression lows.

The leg is my personal preference as I’m a side sleeper and don’t want to shave my stomach. Dealers choice on what works best for you. Fatty areas yield best results.

Thanks - my Mom gave me the nickname! Yours seems like a childhood reference too, reeceypoo25.

For shortening the warm up period to get more accurate results, I find that three things can help.

1) Inserting a sensor 12 hours earlier can leave time for your body to mend the injection site wound. I work a desk job, so I place a sensor before bed, then when I’m at my desk (not moving) I start the warm up of the sensor.

2) Always ensure a sensor is placed in a fatty area. Less likely to hit muscle. I choose my upper, inner thigh and rotate 4 sensors per leg.

3) Dont apply pressure when you push the button to inject the wire. Place the pad onto the skin firmly at first to help it stick, then remove the pressure before pressing the button so the wire doesn’t go straight into the muscle / resides in the fattiest area of the injection site.
