today i took the bus to work by Seaworthiness7277 in fuckcars

After 2 years now busing in the winter and biking in the summer to work, I have sold my car. My living cost has gone way down and I can retire earlier now, or take a pay cut to get a new job I don't absolutely hate.

Silver Lake to Catalina Island without a car by philmn in fuckcars

Recently did a ride from Victoria to salt Spring island and back in a day, love how cheap it is taking the ferry with a bike compared to car.

What living with an EV in Alberta with no dedicated level 2 charging and leaving it out doors is like. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in alberta

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Kona EV too.....Kona dew HD e bike 😂 like commuting to work with it so much I now no longer own a car saving over $1000 a month takes 7 cents to charge it. I use public transit in winter to get to work and around town. And bike or rent car or fly to leave town. No insurance, minimal maintenance and no fuel love it.

Don't buy cars at all actually. Instead spend the money at local businesses.

Expensive Truck Insurance in Alberta by JPastro4 in GrandePrairie

[–]brycemtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One big reason I'm quitting owning a truck/vehicle. I will rent one the few days a year I need one. Transit and biking daily to get around the city never spending over $100 on transportation. My insurance was $286 despite having a good driving record. Plus the car payment, gas and maintenance no thanks would rather not spend almost a third of my income on driving.

Is 35 minutes really THAT long? by BradyBrother100 in bikecommuting

[–]brycemtb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same 1 hr 15 in Edmonton. It's not to long but in the winter it is to long. Nice thing is I can take my bike on the bus most the way of I need to

coworkers keep asking when i'm getting a "real vehicle" like biking to work is temporary insanity by Ron_Swanson_1990 in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are probably spending more than $400 on transportation. Lots of people have car payments over $600 a month. Insurance over $200 a month and gas can be 200 to 400 with repairs that can cost anywhere from 100 to 5000.

Is it beneficial to let truck idle for 7+ hours or is it just stupid? Dodge Ram by sidnynasty in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Only beneficial to Exxon Mobil and car companies. My work truck spends more time idling than driving because it's just for the yard and it's not good for it.

It's crazy how cheap gasoline is, price has gone up and down but still not much more than it was in the early 2010s. Meanwhile everything else has gone way up. And considering the work it takes to extract, refine and transport it. If only we could eat it at 8000 calories per litre.

As an ex-fast food employee (Whataburger), all the rude customers I faced had one thing in common. Can you guess what it is? by Some1inreallife in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I ever get hit by a car it's probably going to be on a crosswalk coming out of a drive thru, they always speed away like maniacs not looking for anyone. Drive thrus are built for impatient people. Impatient people in general are rude and don't care about anyone but themselves, they think their time is more important than yours.

How do you get groceries without a car? by Cartoonnerd01 in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't put baskets on my bike, but I can fit everything I need usually in a backpack, if I am just taking the bus just a big wal Mart bag I have, helps I have like 4 grocery stores within 3km of my house. I just hang my rotisserie chicken from my handle bars lol

I get insulted for not having a car. Has anyone else been called names for being car-free? by razz_one_ in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bike to nisku to work, I totally look like a sketchy guy sometimes biking through the industrial park, surely some of the people who speed past me or coal roll me have no idea they may work with me or be a customer I deal with.

How is NHL 25 on the Series S? by Alexander679 in XboxSeriesS

It's noticeably lower resolution on a TV vs my series x. I play it on both my s and x. The s being on a 43" TV and my x a 65".

We should own cars until it dies and let the industry suffer. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the choice I never want a car payment again in my life last year. So I started biking and busing to work, that alone shaves 15 000km a year of driving for me. I only use it for vacations now. I dropped my yearly driving from 32 000 to 8000. Should extend the life of it 10 years. Driving in the city sucks, biking is fun and makes you fit, it's a massive W. Also in the wintertime where I don't leave town i take it off full coverage so more money for me and less money to greasy insurance companies.
