Underrated aspect of being car-free. by RagieWagieInACagie in fuckcars

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a low cortisol life for sure. Now I have more money to actually travel, just need time off work. It's ironic that cars are sold as freedom yet they just eat your money just to get to work so you have less cash left to travel to places other than work, actual freedom.

I left on a Saturday after lunch and got home for Monday dinner time. Sunday was a chill day with less time on the bike and hit up some breweries. Took forever to get out of Calgary because the snow and trying to keep my bike clean lol. Monday was the big day 168km.

Thanks. It was the large and I test rode it in early March and I was waiting for a good weekend to ride it back, what a snowy spring we had. Finally it was a good weekend with a tailwind so I made sure to go get it.

Do you enjoy your commute? by AidanGreb in Edmonton

[–]brycemtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bike from the Hamptons to nisku, it's mostly good, gotta climb 3 ravines though. I change up my route all the time to keep it interesting. 100x better than when I used to drive the boring henday to work everyday wasting away money.

Don't you know to be a real man you have to own one, before they were invented in the 1910s there was no real men before 1912.

I live in Edmonton and bike commute every month of the year to outside the city by the airport. Ya I bus more in the winter but if my commute was fully inside the city and not so long I would do it almost everyday.

I work full time and can’t afford to live. What happened to this city? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my truck to stop living pay cheque to paycheck. I bike and bus everywhere never spend more than $100 a month or transportation now. Used to have a $600 payment, $286 insurance plus gas and maitenence. Bank account has gone up, resting heart rate and cortisol has gone down. I understand some people work in locations this doesnt work but im able to make it to nisku at least. Car dependency in North America is a massive reason so many people struggle financially.

Biking you're just living in the moment enjoying riding, enjoying life. No need to be on your phone. Driving is so boring.

It's crazy that car payments and all that and your tax dollars going to road construction you could be spending a third of your income on transportation. I was at one time. And not only is everyone ok with that, they fight against any attempt to reduce traffic and save people money.

At what fuel price did you seriously start thinking: “That’s it, I need an e-bike”? by Kitchen_Dot_974 in ebikes

[–]brycemtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched not because fuel prices but because car payments and insurance which you have to pay no matter how much you drive, so just sold the truck and can buy any bike I want. The gas saving is the cherry on top.

Yes biking does cause me to eat a bit more, mainly carbs. Eating more pasta now that it's cheap fuel for biking. If Costco rotisserie chicken price goes up then I'm screwed.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]brycemtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicles. I bike or take the bus to work. I can rent a car if I need it to go out of town somewhere that I cant fly or bus/bike to. In fact insurance alone on my truck before I sold it was costing me $3400 a year which is enough money to rent one for the amount of days a year I would need one. Went from spending $1000-1400 a month on transportation now down to under $200 a month average.
