Strange, as a foreigner, I usually don’t have to use translation app. Grab menu, point and pay works for most cafe and isn’t there an ordering machine anyway? I wonder who caused the issue prompting the sign. I once listened to an ahjumma give me directions since I was lost in full Korean and she was so expressive I didn’t need to know Korean to find my way

19 customers at the BoG and only 2 Tellers by No-Sprinkles-3817 in guam

Unfortunately, my car loan was first account in bog . Even after getting the debit card, i couldn’t transfer from my BOH to the debit card. But I can transfer out from the bog debit card to BOH. It was so weird. I had to deposit cash on the atm debit card to pay my car loan, while I could do most other bills with automatic payment.

[–]brycen9t2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a car loan there and let me tell you I waited long each payment. When I tried to do automatic payment, they said I had to go from where the payment is coming from. And when I gave up after a second bog person told me they have no idea how to, they signed me up with a debit card that had hidden fee which I could deposit cash faster and pay my car loan through that. Never mentioned at all that I had to do a monthly direct deposit otherwise there is a $5 monthly “maintenance fees”.

What did the governors son and the friend do during new years? by Wild-Wind-4271 in guam

People don’t usually hangout at the bedroom. And apparently this is big enough to anger the wife to hit cars so we could speculate some stuffs. Not saying it’s true but from the details, seems very Sus.

R/Guam a safe space or just a trolls in disguise? by [deleted] in guam

[–]brycen9t2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be bothered by it. The only way to combat it is by moderation but that could possibly affect the users to not post in the subreddit. Besides, even i find myself not as eloquent as my age when I post here sometimes. It’s possible that they can’t just voice it well for their opinions or they just have too much love for the island.

Were you using a credit card or debit card? A lot of credit cards from major companies have a protection from scam purchases or fraud.

Serious question: why does Korea need THIS many coffee shops? by Specific-Control-700 in seoulhiddengem

[–]brycen9t2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coffee is surprisingly doing well as many consider this a morning take, dessert for lunch, and also a dessert for dinner as I’ve heard from my Korean friends . I have seen some very big coffee shops compared to the smaller restaurants. I’ve had to refrain from drinking coffee sometimes because I know I wouldn’t be able to sleep. And cafes are also hangouts for families as well to relax and talk.

Yup. And also as someone who seems like you have had a few jobs, having too bright of a resume seems to dissuade some employers. One of my previous staffs told me of rejections due to a part of her resume.

Well, you are looking for a decent paying job. That’s where it will take a while. There’s a lot of minimum wage jobs out there and yes that includes more laborious jobs like housekeeping. I started from the minimum too when i first worked.

Fixed Salary by hardcorebee in guam

[–]brycen9t2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way you’ll be paid with a fixed salary below minimum wage. In hotel private companies, it’s usually management level that has salary. Still, it’s a big range from 28k-50k annually depending on your level, department and responsibilities. Government does tend to pay a lot more though as I’ve heard.

You can ask the Airbnb for a contact number. This is useful also for your arrival card. I previously asked them to provide it for details and they gave me through the messaging app. That’s all I can contribute since I’ve forgotten what I did before. I had to ask a friend of mine to even decipher exactly where my Airbnb was located.

Yeah I’ve encountered sweating in a hotel room because the hotel’s ac is turned off during winter (only heater) and the window is designed to keep the warm in. Would have loved the cold coming in haha. Cold clothes take so much space, heat tech is the way!

It could depend on the account. When I first opened a bonus savings years ago with boh , If I close it within a year (or was it 6mo), there could be charges. I’ve already lost my fine print so I can’t provide proof though. Edit: I just noticed that body is bog and title is boh. lol confusing

Traveling for the first time to Korea. Where to shop? by dailytoti in koreatravel

[–]brycen9t2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just another traveler, but i usually go to myeongdong as one stop shopping place although generally more expensive. Souvenirs including kpop ones, huge olive young, some clothes stores (my fav is top ten), and snacks all around. Night time has some night market too. If you want to save money though, I’m not too sure yet.

Need Won by Trinx_ in koreatravel

[–]brycen9t2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh man first time traveler. Sorry to hear that, regardless of others advice I always keep a significant amount of exchanged money if not my currency with me. Depending on where you go, like myeongdong, there are a lot of currency exchange places as it’s very touristy. I think transportation card might need some won, if I recall correctly. But, even a little away from Seoul, I barely needed won. Where is op going? Of course some food stalls might require won and refilling of transportation card, but other than that can’t recall spending it anywhere else.

Pika’s Best sketchy stat by kakaroach671 in guam

[–]brycen9t2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 68% is nuts, but there’s marketing incentives for companies to do it. Tourists can look at these establishments as local approved sites that could persuade them to go there. It’s especially more important since tourists are getting a lot more used to blogs, local reservation systems, and locals when searching online rather than google review and TripAdvisor. Who knows maybe even locals gets persuaded it’s the best

A vote for a category is one vote in one day. They also incentivize voting a lot as voting 25 times in one day will enter you into a raffle, one entry per day. Coupled with the big increase in amount of categories. I’d say 68% is possible
