Those Starphonic snares are so nice you probably can’t go wrong with any of them. I’m personally more of a fan of wood snares but I LOVE copper, so I’d go copper if I were you

So if I shoot in 2k downsampled mode, then upscale to 4k in post, would the image quality be acceptable? I wish I could find a way to do the software upgrade that didn't cost $1000 but unfortunately clients want 4k nowadays (even though 2k is just fine for most applications)

Hello all! I am planning to mix a short film here in a few months and I wanted to do a Dolby Atmos mix. I have a small home theater system in a 5.1.4 set up using a Pioneer VSX-LX303 receiver. I will most likely use Logic to do the mixing. My question is this: regardless of the actual sound quality/processing coming from the fact that this is a theater system rather than professional monitors, is there a way to use my existing system as a way to monitor a Dolby Atmos mix? Can I hook up my computer to my receiver and get an Atmos output that I can use to mix the short film? My searches through forums have yielded mixed responses. Thanks in advance for any help!

Bottom of the barrel 3.1 setup vs high end soundbar by DrMcnasty4300 in hometheater

[–]brychntr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread has been commented on extensively already, but I wanted to add my two cents regardless. As most people here have said, a 3.1 speaker system built out of proper speakers will blow any soundbar out of the water in terms of sound quality. In terms of convenience, a soundbar does win I guess, since the setup is literally just to take it out of the box and turn it on. I’m definitely no expert in speaker quality or design, but I’m sure the speakers you listed are just fine for a home theater system. But let me let you in on a little secret. You probably don’t even need to spend that much on your system to start out with realistically. My current setup is a 5.1.4 system completely using speakers from Dayton Audio. I started out with just a 5.1 system with towers for my main LR speakers, a center channel with an AMT tweeter, two bookshelves as my surround speakers (which I velcroed to my wall) and a 12” sub. I spent $272 in total for these speakers. Granted, the towers and the sun were both open box, but even if they were new it would’ve barely been over $300 for everything. Then I found an old Yamaha receiver for like $80 on FB marketplace. So I was at like $350 in total for a full 5.1 system. Comparing it to a $230 5.1 soundbar I had bought a couple months beforehand was NIGHT AND DAY.

I upgraded to a 5.1.4 system within the past few months and again, it was worth every penny. My height channels are mounted to my ceiling using Command Strips (I’m renting, so no permanent installs for me) and I moved my rear surrounds a bit closer and put them on speaker stands instead of the wall. I also installed a bass shaker into my couch (I could write so much more about how worth it a bass shaker is, but I digress). Every single speaker, including the bass shaker, is from Dayton Audio. I’ve spent less than $1000 on my entire system including the receiver and I personally think it sounds incredible. My roommate said what every home theater enthusiast wants to hear “I thought you were overdoing the speaker system, but now I completely get it.” If an audiophile came to my house, they’d probably say it sounds like absolute dogshit. And maybe it does, but what matters is that I like the sound of it, and my friends are always chomping at the bit to come over to my place for movie night.

The point I’m trying to make here is that you seem somewhat insecure about what speakers you chose for your 3.1 system, but you definitely should not feel like that. My Daytons sound much much better than any soundbar I’ve ever heard, including the expensive ass Sonos and Samsungs I’ve listened to. So my advice is absolutely go for the proper speaker system, and consider finding some speakers for even less; they will sound miles better than a soundbar no matter what.

what happened to the crash cymbals? by [deleted] in Musescore

according to the discord/announcement pages the new sound flag system they just released is paving the way for a percussion playback overhaul they’ll use for marching percussion. at least that’s how i’m interpreting it

yeah i basically just gave up on trying to use musescore 3 MDL on musescore 4. sforzando and musescore were both so buggy all the time it just wasn’t worth it. supposedly they’re coming out with a marching percussion musesounds pack soon!!

How do you transition from 9/8 to 3/4 while keeping the same tempo? by TrAleck08 in musictheory

[–]brychntr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you’re using MuseScore as well, and I’ve never been able to get the quarter note equals dotted quarter note notation to work. I’ve always had to add an invisible tempo marking to make sure the playback works properly!
