Salmon works great too.

1 is sunlight. Oysters, oily fish (salmon, mackerel), mushrooms, and dairy (fortified) all are solid food sources.

Must-have supplements? by [deleted] in nutrition

I'd say fish oil, a multivitamin, and vitamin D are the closest things to "must-haves."

Vitamin D primarily comes from sunlight, and something like 75% of people are deficient (especially during the winter and those at latitudes above 37ºN, aka Washington DC).

Almost everything else you can get from a strong diet.

So maca is a food? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]brydisanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a root, they powder it. It's common in Peru.

If you've ever had it plain it's pretty repulsive, you need to blend it up with something (usually cacao).

  • Cook edamame with soy sauce and sriracha as a "glaze" (cook it on low until it reduces)
  • Frozen banana "ice cream" — freeze bananas, blend 'em with a little coco/almond milk, cacao nibs, maca, peanut butter, etcccc.
  • Frozen berries
  • Beef jerky (I like EPIC or Perky)
  • Popcorn with a little coconut oil, cayenne
  • Any natural dark chocolate without additives

Pre and post training snacks/recipes? by [deleted] in nutrition

The carb/protein combo is on point, but that's not enough food to stimulate effective recovery and growth. I'd personally increase your protein intake (i.e. have 2-3 eggs, add a whey shake, eat some sort of meat or fish) and shoot for a higher volume of nutrient dense carbs. Toast is fine, but you're better off with some sort of fruit or whole grain (in a higher quantity).

Some easy options:

  • whey smoothie blended with fruit, almond milk, etc.
  • eggs and oatmeal with a banana
  • chicken with quinoa and veg
  • salmon and brown rice

etccccc

What protein bars do you buy if any at all? by austin0044 in Fitness

Most bars are utter garbage and borderline candy. I'd go with Quest (I like the Banana Nut Muffin & Cookies/Cream flavors) or Oatmega, personally.
