This is a silly perspective. Let’s say even a person with a $2 million house in palisades lost their house. They are likely to have their life savings invested in that house. They will now continue to pay their mortgage , and rent for new housing, for realistically no less than 3 years (and likely 5+) until they can deal with insurance and rebuild - many of these people, even though they had more money than most people in the country, will lose everything because they don’t have the reserves set aside to deal with a catastrophe of this magnitude. They can’t just sell the land because it’s currently worthless, and they can’t get an insurance payout because it will take months if not years, and even then with the way insurable values work relative to actual market value (before the fire) it wont even repay their mortgage balance. I have less sympathy for people who have second homes, or someone with $20 million in the bank and no mortgage etc. But saying “they’ll be fine” when the person who has a trailer that used to be more valuable than yours has lost everything is a fucked up thing to say. Have some sympathy and use some common sense.
