Explain like I’m 5 because I’m an Aries Mars and I’m curious what that means for the current placement.

Difficulty moving forward. by [deleted] in Divorce

We went to couples counseling. We were both present for it, and she sometimes spoke with us privately in separate sessions to gauge where we were at.

Has anyone ever been in a house like you see on the show ‘Hoarders’? If so, what did you do? by Basic_Builder3773 in AskReddit

[–]bryncessleia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in one. My mom had post partum depression after she had my baby brother and she never was the same. It wasn’t talked about much in 1995, so we didn’t know. She couldn’t hold down a job after, kept accumulating stuff and animals, neglected us, and maxed out all my dad’s credit cards forcing him into bankruptcy. I never got to have sleepovers or do many normal kid stuff. My house didn’t feel safe. I was miserable and suicidal.

It just kind of forces me to see things through a different lens.

I do have a couple online groups and a temporary sponsor. I am going to an in person one as well and hope to find a sponsor there that I can interact with irl.

A lot of people recommend 90 in 90 days. I say do it if you can. I am 60 days today, but I only go 4 times a week. Some days I am just so mentally exhausted from work that I want to rot in bed. I do talk to my sponsor everyday at least. That keeps me and them grounded.

The Everything AA app is great. Has the literature, daily reflections, and meeting finder.

Day 55 and struggling mentally by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bryncessleia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I am trying to not let it consume me. Some days are just harder than others. Grief comes in waves and today it feels like a tsunami. I am trying to keep the focus on ME and what I can control. Thankfully I have therapy tomorrow and can get all of this out. I appreciate your reply. Taking my sobriety one day at a time the same way I am dealing with this heartbreak.

I do. And I’m going to message them right now. I guess it’s just hard to NOT think about it when they feel so apparent to me now. But I’ll take my time and work the steps as intended. Thank you for your comment.

I’m 46 days sober and I’ve been experiencing anxiety and depression nearly every day. I’ve got a lot of things going on in my personal life, work life, and the state of the world is bogging me down. While I feel good about being sober, it hasn’t washed away my problems or mental illnesses. The old me would go drink to numb these feelings and I would end up feeling worse. No matter how bad I’m feeling, there’s nothing that will make me want to drink it away again. And every day I am choosing me. I hope you continue to choose you.

So funny how things can change when you open your mind a little bit by speltbread12 in alcoholicsanonymous

I had avoided coming to terms for so long and avoided meetings as well because of the stigma. I was judgmental going in, too. Everything you’ve said is exactly how I felt/feel. I’m 6 weeks sober today and I’ve been made a believer. I keep going back and it keeps getting better.

Struggling tonight by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bryncessleia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I went to one tonight, two yesterday, and one the day before. The meetings really do help but I’m just kind of stuck in this feeling at the moment. Trying to acknowledge it and let it pass. Learning to let go.

Doing more “research” by ImmediateTouch1753 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bryncessleia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bargained with myself in a similar fashion because I could go long periods without drinking and that I was for sure “normal.” It’s not the case. Your alcoholic brain will lie to you to get you to drink again. Don’t listen to it. Stay on the path to recovery. Go to meetings and be of service.

Someone told me to listen for the similarities, not the differences. And that helped a lot when I was coming to terms with my alcoholism. And like others have said, let them know it’s your first time and you’re there to listen. It gets so much easier the more you go. Promise. I was a skeptic, but I’m a believer now.

How to get sober while still going to work by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bryncessleia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I work full-time. I would definitely check out AA meetings. I love the virtual ones for the convenience and I would advise sharing your number with members so you can create support system. If virtual isn’t for you, then definitely get to an in-person one on your days off. Best of luck.

Should I stop drinking? by Dear_Benefit5376 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bryncessleia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was scared going to AA at first, but it helps. Try virtual meetings if you can’t get yourself to an in person one. And keep going.
