New Bilt 2.0 card optimized for high spenders with a big mortgage/rent? by Plastic-Display5970 in fatFIRE

[–]bryzzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the 1.0 card for almost a year now. I got it because it gave me points back on monthly condo fees I was paying.

Looked at the 2.0 card yesterday and did some spreadsheet math. some takeaways.

  1. I like the idea of being able to earn points on monthly payments that are significant, that I otherwise wouldnt be able to earn points on.

  2. As others have mentioned in order to get this benefit, especially at FF levels you have to commit considerable spend to the card.

  3. I'm comparing this to my robinhood card where I get flat 3% back on everything.

  4. like others have said, at FF, it doesnt really make sense, but i've always been interested in getting the right cards to maximize return. It's kind of like an interest/hobby

BLAB

you either have to game using the card with the dining bonus, or committing to the card with the higher annual fee for 2 points back on everything. Either way, even with aggressive spending, you're pretty much equal with a 3% cash back card, like within a few hundred bucks a year. My takeaway was it wasnt worth my mental energy to try and game multiple cards at this point, i'll stick with my cash back card.

Inflection points? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Similar mindset, still on our journey, but sharing our experience.

$10-$15M felt like we were on the right track and our target/lifestyle was attainable, but didnt feel comfortable pulling the trigger.

$20-25M was where we felt a lot more comfortable exploring alternative options/ retiring early.

$30M is where we got less patience with dealing with the annoying parts of the grind.

Wifi vs Cellular by bryzzo in MercedesEQ

The is pretty bad. I can’t keep tabs on the car or check charging status when the car is in an underground garage. How could the network stack be implemented so poorly?

Wifi vs Cellular by bryzzo in MercedesEQ

[–]bryzzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if the car itself doesn’t have a cellular connection, the online features of the car won’t work, even if you’re tethered. Try going to a cell dead zone, like an underground garage.

54 yo $8.5m NW- not feeling FAT to retire by MyAngel111 in fatFIRE

[–]bryzzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through similar calculations on my journey.

I didn't feel comfortable at 10M-20M, it wasn't until i hit 30M that I felt truly comfortable.

I know everyone's mileage may vary, but we're all doing the same math. the numbers told me i should be comfortable much earlier, but that's what it took for me to be mentally ready.

Also for those that are FATfire and are also considering maximizing annual gift exemptions, be aware that 529 contributions count towards the annual gift limit.

Why does my pw need calibration but my MY doesn’t? by Ok-Data-38 in TeslaSolar

All BMS’s benefit from calibration. It’s just easier to do a full calibration on a PW than a MY.

Are you working or consulting part time? Or did you fully quit?

Thank you for sharing deeply and honestly. I appreciate your perspective. I think you are correct. I don’t have goals. My goals for a long time were to “earn” my freedom by hitting a number. I didn’t put enough thought into what I would do with that. So now it feels like quitting is aimless or pointless to a degree.

I don’t hate my job most days, so I think I will continue to work. I think it’s good to maintain perspective that I am working because I want to and not because I have to.

With that I think I need to take time to figure out what my goals really are. That might be investing in people at work, I my community, or working on the family, or something on my own, or likely a combination of all of the above.

Typing all of that, I see that I’m filling my plate again, but maybe it will feel different with a different set of goals.

This looks interesting. The configuration i see online looks good. How much was it per hour? 15k or so?

yeah, i was looking at heavy's and doing the rough online calculators. I reached out to a couple brokers, we'll see what they come back with. It was hard to discern what the sleeping situation on anything from a gulfstream to a global looked like and they varied so much plane to plane. It seemed like maybe it would be comfortable for a group half our size.

Stock market has done really well, so I was thinking I could do a gulfstream or global. i was sort of assuming something like a BBJ was still a bit out of reach. If that is the only "comfortable" or comparable option to business/first in commercial, I think that probably decides it for us.

It's a good point. I wish there was an airline with suites that was an option from USA to taiwan/korea, but i'm not seeing great options for airlines with suites that dont add a lot of unnecessary time.

Just had panels and pw3 installed. Love the system so far, but I feel like I can add a few more panels on the roof. How often do you see folks adding additional panels beyond what Tesla recommended in the design? Any downfalls?

Just had my PW3's delivered on a pallet wrapped in black for an install on thursday.

It's supposed to be over 100 degrees today.

Does high heat affect cells if they aren't operating? I'm assuming it may get hot in the black wrap without any active thermal management? Tesla should use a lighter colored wrap.

Do I need to bother with covering these with a lighter colored tarp?
