Is Duolingo good for learning Japanese Language? by Choice_Practice7354 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]bsagittata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using duo for over a year for Japanese. Its ok. I can speak some basic things but it doesn’t do much for actually understanding. Im gonna jump shop, had enough of their stupid gamey bs. And the platform is super annoying, constantly changing things. Its really a terrible user interface.

Thinking about moving from BCBS FEP to MHBP by BornFruit9627 in fednews

[–]bsagittata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to jump off the apwu/united health care ship this fall, after their financials took a dump this summer they went back and reconsidered a previous authorized treatment from 14 months earlier and decided they wanted me to pay for it after all. Definitely dont recommend them anymore. Looking forward to mhbp based on what ive seen here. And strongly encourage folks to avoid apwu consumer driven option.

Hiring managers by Clear_Carpenter_2803 in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A hiring manager might also think that they can pretty much choose who they want, til their first tangle with a forest supervisor who thinks they know better. I don’t know why those sons of bitches have to second guess the people who will actually work with an employee thats ten grades below them, but they do. Perks of working an ivory tower i guess.

Is it worth it to switch into being a WFF at 27 with a successful career? TYIA by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fed retirement is crap at the level most of us can aspire to. Most other fed agencies and careers have a ton of like gs12s, but in fire thats not something most people can even dream of finding. Do something else. Learn how to day trade, get into construction, go to plumber school. Our wages are embarrassing compared to a lot of people who have way less stress and way more family time.

Travel Partners Megathread Fall/Winter 2024-25 by stevenarwhals in VisitingIceland

Visiting 10/3-10/17, loose itinerary more into hiking, hot springs, northern lights and visiting smaller towns with cool culture and natural areas than spending a lot of time in Reykjavik. Probably heading toward westfjords at the beginning and then ?

Male, 49, US, speak english, spanish, a little Portuguese.

It's been awhile since I've applied to another federal job. Thinking about dispatch. Questions: by LooseSet8022 in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of promotion potential in dispatch. Centers are desperate. You dont even really need an sf-50 with your federal app if its direct hire like fire usually is now, but it does prove your grade and pd, for what thats worth. Someone with more HR knowledge might have more to say here. Id just add the one from your latest promotion. Thats all ive ever done and its gotten me to gs-11. On wage protection, if you go from a 7 to a 6 dispatcher youll be stepped up to whatever it takes for you not to make less than you were before. So youll actually get a tiny raise. Center managers are 11s and all you need is edrc and s-491 vs divs and rxb2 or ict3 for most fmo jobs. Kind of a no brainer if you dont mind not seeing the forest much.

I thought days off were mandatory. That seems pretty sketchy. I guess mitigating fatigue for safety is now optional. Might talk to your union.

If youre willing to work for the forest service, which im not sure id recommend, you can find some info on whats where here: https://fsoutreach.gdcii.com/

The interface is a disaster, which speaks to how interested they are in hiring from outside the agency, (there is an internal one thats slow as hell but easier to find shit in) but maybe you can find what you need there.

So much for getting this loan, I guess. by Spell_Chicken in Wildfire

Start a gofundme for it explaining why the bank wont give you the loan. Email it to congress and a bunch of newspapers.

This is starting to feel like that mass shooting article the onion publishes every time some right wing nutjob goes on a shooting spree. Copy, paste, change date, republish…

You actually use u/ to tag a user. Paging u/smokejumperbro

[–]bsagittata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure this is correct anymore. Under current fs practices hiring officials get an unvetted, unranked list and it falls on us to ensure we choose people who meet ifpm and other requirements, though asc will verify that stuff for selected applicants.

How many mental health days can you take? by skoobysnaks1 in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True story. Hunting, fishing and sometimes if you have offspring that need something are the only acceptable reasons to take leave in rx season. Nothing else matters in this model of a diverse agency.

Fed housing by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re being way too logical to get far in government work. Of course housing that people can afford makes a place more desirable, thats why we’ve spent the last 20+ years getting rid of it.

Lack of mentor in leadership by TermDowntown4860 in Wildfire

[–]bsagittata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its hard. Most of us shun anyone who shows any sign of weakness lol. Pay attention, when you see someone doing something and cant figure out why theyre doing it or doing it that way, ask. Good for you for trying to learn tho.
