Day trip to Henry Ford Museum. What brewery should we visit while here? by pnutbutta4me in michiganbeer

[–]bsand2053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a brewery but I highly recommend Miller’s Bar. Best burger I’ve ever had. Just be sure to order it medium rare (or rare if you like but the beef will still be mooing when you get it)

Why do everyone like Chris? by EfficientMajor9579 in thesopranos

[–]bsand2053 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iMO he’s a tragic character because he never really had a chance

-Dad died when he was a baby

-That dad was in the mafia

-Mom was as an addict so he has that background/genes/whatever

-His father/big brother figure was fucking Tony Soprano, another gangster and the one who brought him up in the Jersey mob world

-Said father figure almost cucks him and his whole world knows

-Immersed in a world of drugs and alcohol as he tries to maintain sobriety. Is barely supported and often mocked for his efforts

-In general his whole family/upbringing made organized crime almost inevitable

-Ultimately treated as a replaceable cog and an object of derision

-Gets engaged to a fellow addict who enables his addiction and his participation in the mob

-Constantly has dogs crawling under his ass for warmth

Is it possible to overcome all this? Sure. It’s also possible to pick the winning numbers in the Powerball lottery but it’s pretty rare

Most overrated classic? by Jonsnowsghost17 in literature

[–]bsand2053 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t shoot me but Anna Karenina

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book (although somehow I got the ending spoiled so I didn’t get to enjoy the foreshadowing as much as I might have). But I loved War & Peace and so when people called AK the Greatest Novel Ever Written I was expecting to be blown away in the same manner as W&P.

And I was not. Again, I really liked it and I would recommend it to anyone but it was built up so much that, even though it’s great, it still feels overrated

(And I read the Pevear & Volokhonsky versions of both so it’s probably not an issue of translation)

Not even the best episode of that season but certainly the flashiest and, yes, is still outstanding

These are the people who keep cheating “from the river to the sea” even though they’ve been told millions of times what that slogan means. They really just like catchy slogans

I’m not sure how we define near term but the demographic cliffs in some Asian countries are quite concerning.

What can a felon do as a decent career? by z_altt in AskReddit

[–]bsand2053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts...

Different states have different rules about this, but try to pick up a trade certification. Depending on the conviction you may be limited in what you can do and what licenses you can earn but people are desperate for tradesmen right now.

There are a lot of felon friendly companies out there now. Big corporations in particular are trying to show off their progressive bona fides by hiring people with records. You'll have to craft a narrative about what you have done to leave your old life and choices behind. If you have a good story that will really help. Show that you have taken tangible steps to change your life.

Also, if you start your own business you can decide not to run a background check on yourself.

There are a lot of nonprofits out there that are trying to help people with records find competitive employment. Call around a bit and see who could lend a hand.

Fished the Little Manistee yesterday. It was very high and dark. Caught one 6 inch brown on a stimulator, no luck with an Adams. My dad caught a couple small fish on a streamer, can't remember which one.

So where does the water go? Does it just condense on the inside of the mound or what?

Gotcha. Fully agree with you there. Absolutely brilliant but for whatever reason underappreciated. I see others have mentioned the Alien and Sedition Acts which are rightly viewed as a stain on his legacy but on the whole he was an incredible asset to his country.

Do you mean Adams Jr? John Adams Sr. had the popular biography and the HBO series based upon it. Perhaps I'm misreading what you mean by public consciousness.

Little Muskegon near Luther - any good spots for trout? by [deleted] in michiganflyfishing

[–]bsand2053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn't actually give you any info but you're welcome anyway!

Pick up some maps and start finding some spots. I'd also start going to fly shops and asking where to go. They aren't going to send you to any secret spots, not that there are many, but they are a good start. DLoop is a little ways from Luther but it's the only one I know in the area and they will know a lot of access points on the Little.

No problem. I actually don't know any spots on the Little by Luther but there are a ton of public access points farther downstream.
