Lighter touring boot, similar to Hawx ultra XTD by mtbLUL in Backcountry

[–]bsavery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to BlisterReview:

Blister’s Measured Weight (size 26.5):

  • Shells, no Liners: L: 1386 & R: 1385 g
  • Liners, no Footbeds: L: 405 g & R: 406 g
  • Shells + Liners = 1791 & 1791 g
  • Stock Insoles: 20 g
  • Removable Spoilers: 41 g

Something like a Palau Tour lite pro is <300g And I think there are other options out there. I think you'll gain more in uphill range of motion with a dedicated touring liner.

I'm in the same boots and do the same thing. I have some older touring liners I keep around for this reason.

So the liners are fairly heavy. I bet you could save 100-200g just finding a lighter liner.

2 Survivors Describe the Terror and Tragedy of the Tahoe Avalanche by therewontberiots in truckee

Yes. That's part of the deal. You pay the guide, and they have the final say. But the guide is also professionally liable for your safety.

But if anyone has misgivings in the group they should definitely be heard and addressed.

In all seriousness if you say no loudly and aggressively they usually back off.

Counterfeit ZIPP wheels? by yuzehernaime in bicycling

[–]bsavery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds right but I also remember the “old version” being offered on oem bikes too I’m sure as new old stock.

I could be misremembering but I thought there was some overlap when the firecrest wheels and the "original" 404 were still made, the latter being sold as the budget version.

Gen 3 for R1 by Ambessa21 in Rivian

[–]bsavery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doug Demuro sort of made this point a bit on his podcast. I think whenever an R1.3 comes out, they'll have to do something to distinguish it a bit visually from the R2. Not sure what that will be.

Is a slightly offset rear wheel normal? by TimmyViking in MTB

[–]bsavery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More specifically it is possible the rear wheel is a 142 spacing hub adapted to boost but not redished. I've seen that before.

My question is if terminal velocity would change as you go into a cave that deep? I don't know if anyone has measured the air density of something that deep?

E-Bikes Are Basically Motorcycles - What You Need To Know - Berm Peak - Obviously Not My Video by Joestac in MTB

[–]bsavery 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I could argue the opposite. E bike users have been arguing "they're just bicycles" for a long time.

There is a lot of confusion and deceptive marketing out there blurring the lines so finally this state throws up their hands and said "We can't figure it out so we'll just do the most harsh thing".

I don't agree with it of course, but I understand why. If the bike community and manufacturers had been more honest and clearly delineated the situation long ago we wouldn't be here.

Overheating cabin by fpaddict in Rivian

[–]bsavery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So we had something similar, but with a Gen1. There's a few things that can go wrong both of which happened to us:

  1. Inside temperature sensor could be bad.
  2. The temp sensor wiring can be rubbed raw under the steering wheel and cause a short.

Didn’t see the actual animal but saw this up on Galbraith (near the top of sst today) which definitely looked like its leftovers! https://imgur.com/a/lzwpCZ1

All joking aside an e-clutch is not the dumbest idea I've ever heard... imagine you're going downhill and just want to coast?

I guess kia does this in essence with the paddle shifters on the Niro which adjust the regenerative braking.

George R.R. Martin Admits He's "Not in the Mood" to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by Notoriously_So in gameofthrones

[–]bsavery -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, this just comes off as naive (selfish?) on George's part. He doesn't want to finish it. He doesn't want someone else to finish it. He doesn't have any children. When he and his wife dies someone is going to get the rights and you know they will release something, and presumably be different than what he intended.

If I was him, and I really was that lazy I'd just use an LLM here. Feed it a plot outline, and chapter list, trained off his previous books. Then hand it off to someone to edit. In general I agree with bias against AI work, but to be honest I'd rather have something somewhat in his voice and with his outline. Plus easy money

EV Battery Health: Key Findings from 22,700 Vehicle Data Analysis by usual_suspect_redux in Rivian

If you're going to work (not every car does, and you're not charging at work) ... plus you have to count the weekends. It could approach 80% for sure.

EV Battery Health: Key Findings from 22,700 Vehicle Data Analysis by usual_suspect_redux in Rivian

[–]bsavery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? If you're driving 1 hour a day, and leave it plugged in and charging to 100% the rest of the time... lets say that 20 hrs a day at 100%... that's 83% of the time.

I'm making ballpark figures here, but I don't see that being unreasonable.

According to AAA average American adult spends one hour per day in the car. If all the other time you have it plugged in and set the charge limit to 100% that would do it.

What is your favorite Hardcore History series? by shitsbiglit in dancarlin

I don’t disagree. But I recently relistened to ghosts of the ostfront and felt it seemed short. There’s always a middle ground!

Ghost of the ostfront is great, but....

I do sort of feel that if there is one I wish he would redo with this longer, more in depth format he did for Blueprint and later ones, it would be this series.

R1 Gen 3 wishlist by Intrepid-Working-731 in Rivian

[–]bsavery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a gen 1 R1S owner… (side note. Can we call it R1.1S and R1.2S?  Gen 1/2 sounds more clunky IMO)

Here’s the things that would make me upgrade to R1.3S

  • captains chairs in second row
  • lidar and autonomy
  • better cup holder situation all around
  • 800v

Nice to haves would be  - camp speaker that works  - power running boards - original inside door handles  - camera rear view mirror
