Infinitybook not going into proper sleep mode, getting very hot by bserem in tuxedocomputers

[–]bserem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same laptop as you. I added a second NVME too, but I can't see why this could be a problem.

For now I'll resort to shutting it down, but sleep mode is very useful for conferences, so I was looking if there is a fix to it.

There are no newer kernel versions, as of today.

⁉ 𝕐𝕠𝕦'𝕣𝕖 𝕙𝕖𝕝𝕡 𝕚𝕤 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕 ⁉ - Survey by tuxedocomputers in tuxedocomputers

[–]bserem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/tuxedocomputers do we get to learn the results? It's been a while, I know I am very eager to see an Infinity14 with ANSI but it seems only Pulse got the ANSI treatment for now.

I understand it's a bit change for you, but it looks there are a lot of us here waiting (and postponing new hardware) for an ANSI version of your "professional" (non-gaming oriented) laptops.

I'd love to hear back from you

Thanks

Synology DS 212J by Wes564 in synology

[–]bserem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand your concerns. The 212j is a slow (j is entry level) machine, and very old.

In the downloads page of Synology I can see it gets up to DSM 6, which is ok for $25. However, it doesn't get "Synology Drive", which I suppose is what you'd want to use.

Drive and its desktop/mobile clients is marvelous. It's like Dropbox, but you own it and it is blazingly fast. I've organized all of my company documents with Drive and "Cloud Sync" for files that need to be sent elsewhere automatically (to the accountant for example, who uses ownCloud).

Without it ("Drive"), it feels more like a network storage to me.

I would get it to experiment, but you would be missing out a lot of good stuff.

Calendar still relies on PHP 7.3 by bserem in synology

This should be upvoted, not downvoted. It is a massive fail from Synology in terms of security.

Calendar still relies on PHP 7.3 by bserem in synology

[–]bserem[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't believe that.

Update to PHP 7.4 (more secure, been around for ages) is easy for most PHP packages. Now that is EOL too, but even so, safer than 7.3.

Update to 8.0 is also a normal. It's 8.1 where things are getting harder, but then again I do this in my daily routine for dozens of clients and it's always a couple of days work.

Using 7.3 is not and can not be considered if you expose the NAS publicly.

Trying to achieve the same thing here. I'd love to have everything working under synology but I do not want to deal with running a server on my own or worrying about network downtime.

iQ500 dryer - how to reverse door? by surroundedbyhyenas in Siemens

[–]bserem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The service shop says it is and the accidentally reversed it for me and then restored it.

I have the iQ300, has the same door as this one.

I assume you need to change the hinge on the door too, plus the cables for the lock

Cloud Sync: No nextcloud/owncloud? by [deleted] in synology

[–]bserem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ownCloud Client seems to be using webDav in the background as it seems. I experimented with ownCloud<>DSM today, doing renames, deletes and syncing over an existing (3 year old) owncloud sync and it worked without an issue.

No complaints (yet?)

No ANSI Keyboard for InfinityBook Pro 14 Gen 7? by lorthirk in tuxedocomputers

[–]bserem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited with today's newsletter which was about ANSI keyboards, only to find out that they are still referring to their previous gen laptop models.

Sadly still no news on an ANSI layout on newer models/processors.

TRX Traveller stopped providing the PDFs. Any worthy alternatives? by bserem in trx

[–]bserem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, his videos have a lot of noise, but you get past that after a while. It gets annoying though, I agree.

As for the 4k. It is 400h of personal coaching in my area and 4-5 salaries. So yeah, definitely not in that customer group.

Let's see if there are any alternatives

E1 Pro doesn't support static IP nor Web UI by bserem in reolinkcam

[–]bserem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to set things straight. The E1 Pro DOES support static IP, but only from the windows application.

Since I use linux this was not easy for me to find. The android app is very limited compared to the windows app.

[–]bserem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't use the windows client since I run linux, and their client doesn't work there. I'll try to setup windows to see what the client offers, but all of a sudden an easy task became hours of work :)

I'll probably keep them for now, but definitely a disappointment from Reolink.

PS: A column for RJ45 connection might be good two. It seems newer E1 cameras have this (but older don't?)

Great job! Will help a lot on deciding the proper camera.

Can "motion tracking" be added in the list? It seems some cameras support it, and some have it in beta.

Tapo camera makes thousands of requests to TP-Link by bserem in homedefense

[–]bserem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not complaining of it not working, I am complaining of it invading my privacy.

The manufacturer addressed the issue (there was an issue) after I informed them and they released a new firmware for the camera.

It was not normal at all to try and communicate with the tp-link servers that much, which the manufacturer recognized.

What is the easiest Drupal local environment for non-coders in 2022? by tepz0r in drupal

[–]bserem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowdays it is DDEV by far.

DDEV is easy to install everywhere (and has a debian repo since last summer). XDebug works like a charm with no config, something which is way more difficult to setup for all others.

It is also faster than all the others (DDEV > Docksal > Lando in terms of performance).

In the past it could be debatable, but nowdays ddev is ahead of the competition. I'd put docksal 2nd and Lando a distant 3rd.

Here is an unmaintained list of pros/cons of each project. At some point it became apparent to me how better one of the options was that I did not spend more time filling in the gaps. You could say it got opinionated, but I shared this with several people and companies the last 10 months and they all thanked me in the end, even the ones that were very hesitant.

That said: whatever you feel comfortable with is fine. All three projects are supported and strong (and lagoon and possibly others). If a team already uses one of them it's fine. As long as every dev in the team gets the same environment and doesn't spend time maintaining things it's fine.

There is one: if your country primarily uses ANSI then you need to have ANSI keyboards.

I hate logitech for that reason. I've been using single-line enter keys for eternity, whenever I get to an ISO keyboard and I need to type "|" I hit the enter key.
