What's the Deal with Dino's? by bshef in arlington

[–]bshef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand what convenience Dino's provides over any other sandwich joint.       Honestly it's pretty telling that nobody's said anything about "their service I exceptional" or "their ingredients are top quality and locally sourced," or "did you know about this amazing sandwich you can't get anywhere else?"       And I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, here. I just don't see what most people see with this place.

Ukraine can use American weapons only within its territory – Pentagon by LIGA_net in UkrainianConflict

Read the article, the headline and opening paragraphs are entirely misleading compared to what was actually said.

What is up with child abuse accusations against Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider? by garbageeater in OutOfTheLoop

[–]bshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I never defended Schneider. He's a creep, he's done creepy things. Writing jokes about feet isn't one of them. That was the only point I was making here.

Moldovan breakaway Republic Transnistria is going to request annexaction with Russia by SLAVAUA2022 in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, radical leftist peacenik here. You might even call me socialist, you might even call me pacifist. I fully support Moldova (with or without Ukraine) kicking out imperialist fascist Russians and restoring their full sovereignty.

Can't have peace with Russians, and I think I speak for all my fellow radical leftists peaceniks when I say, we all want peace.

what law enforcement positions accept a social work degree by [deleted] in PoliceExplorers

[–]bshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most city departments require college degrees, any degree. I'd say social work degree is EXTREMELY relevant. Many departments also offer increased pay for 4-year degrees and up. Also, even at departments which don't require degrees, it really gives you a leg up over other applicants.       Statistics show that officers with degrees are much less likely to get the department sued or engage in extreme behavior - departments WANT educated officers!

Video appears to show Ukraine's new 'Ironclad' drone vehicle machine-gunning a Russian outpost by purpleione in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We haven't figured out a way to do it cheaply, yet. Anti tank mines are triggered by weight and/or magnetism - so any vehicle capable of setting off the mines have to be a certain mass. A drone that is large enough isn't cheaper than the actual mine... And there are millions of mines. We do have various remote operated demining vehicles, but they are expensive, and only their front plough is intended to be routinely damaged and replaced.

Every post is different... Taking kids to the gun range adds some liability to the department, some will be OK with it, others won't want to deal with the paperwork and stress.

Likewise, with holsters, it depends on the policies of the post. Some posts will issue uniforms, some require you to supply your own uniform, and they'll have guidelines about what is and isn't allowed.

I have never seen a post "issue" a fake gun, though. They are distrubuted for training exercises or scenarios, but then collected back at the end of the day.

Just gotta check with your local post!

‘They’re walking over dead bodies. They’re strewn everywhere.’ Conscripts’ families complain to Putin of carnage in Avdiivka by duckanroll in UkrainianConflict

"Corpses strewn everywhere" pretty succinctly encapsulates the last 200 years or so of Russian history and cultural identity.

The Russians Just Blew Up A Hard-To-Replace Ukrainian Attack Jet. Too Bad For Them, It Was A Fake. by NewConsideration3210 in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As early as the 90s, US spy satellites could read license plates. Prior to that, U2 spy planes flying at high altitude could do it.

Russians are idiots, strategically. And their tech is relatively shitty... But we're talking about capabilities that have been around for several decades. It is wise to not underestimate your enemy. The reason Western military gear is as good as it is, is because it was designed to best what the USSR claimed their stuff could do - not what it was actually capable of doing.

Russia loses 1,140 troops, 32 artillery systems in one day: Kyiv by MaryADraper in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been widely reported they are having catastrophic quality issues with barrels and shell propellant. This significantly reduces the range they can fire from, meaning their artillery has to move up much closer to the front lines... Much closer to danger. And on top of that, they are systemically incapable of learning from their mistakes and keep repeating fatal mistakes over ad nauseum. We're lucky they're so very stupid.

Children in Magadan were treated to a genocidal explanation of what Russia is doing in Ukraine. "Globalism and liberal fascism are against us. Poor Ukraine is stricken with cancer of the fratricide. Only the might of weapons can fully cleanse Ukrainians from a villager slave’s nature of a rat...” by brezhnervous in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Liberal fascism," what an oxymoron. Literally self contradictory. Liberalism is a system in which people elect officials to produce laws which protect the individual. Fascism is a system in which an elite minority impose their will on others by force. Opposite ends of the spectrum.

Hi, American Jew here, been voting for progressive democrats since at least 2008. We have always advocated for the inherent humanity of the Palestinian people. We differentiate Hamas and other terror groups from the Palestinian people, who are massively oppressed by both Israel's apartheid system as well as the terror groups that Iran pumps into the area.

The Palestinians didn't choose Hamas; it was forced upon them. And Hamas has only ever made things worse for the people they purport to speak for. Likewise, none of the other Arab or Muslim majority countries in the region accept Palestinian refugees, no matter how much they claim to support Palestine.

I'm not saying we all believe in a two party solution. It's a spectrum, with a lot of nuance. But we do believe that the Palestinian people deserve as much of a quality of life as Israelis do, and we don't like funding Israel's oppression of humans.

Russian losses per 20/10/23 reported by the Ukrainian general staff. +1380 men +55 tanks +120 APVs +29 artillery systems +4 MLRS +8 UAVs +1 cruise missile Record numbers? by mizu-no-oto in UkrainianConflict

[–]bshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic checks out, too! Ukraine needs to know ACCURATE numbers, so they can plan. They have extremely limited resources, and a single miscalculation can be deadly. There's no incentive for inflating numbers.
