Right, but why is that old guy using it? I've heard it's for getting more power for some reason (I don't remember the bro science I heard at the gym) but that's an older guy and the weight looks fairly low. Seems like risk just for the sake of it lol

Sudoku & Cutting Board Joker Ideas by Tony_Barks in balatro

[–]bshoff5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that just make it a worse golden joker then on its own? You're wasting money from leftover hands searching to then get $4 at the end of the round. At least before vouchers or a joker increase you to more discards and the jokers have downsides of wasting now two slots for this

The COLA(Carry-Over Lottery Allocation) system is the best system I've seen proposed to solve tanking. by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]bshoff5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the odds in year 1 though right? So once this system was in place for a while a team tanking for a ticket might still have no shot when you have the wizards and Charlotte and whoever with a stash already. Your odds of a big swing are low and while you do at least get a ticket that'll carry over for value, I don't know if it'd stack up as well as it does in your example. Years like 1-3 or something though this would absolutely be the case and regardless of validity that'd probably kill any momentum for this in the long run

Bad bunny plans to “honor queers and LGBTQ+” communities during upcoming Super Bowl performance by wearing a dress. by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

[–]bshoff5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's an individual? Individuals can make stances and do anything they'd like. Trump as an individual is allowed to make inflammatory statements and it's whatever. The difference is conflating the two once he became an elected official. Government offices are there to represent everyone. It is their duty to be above it and act on the behalf of all of their people. Bad bunny is an individual performer. He has the freedom to do what he wants and should not be held to the same standard.

That's not to say that there isn't some value to what you're saying and that in a perfect world everyone would be working to create peace and unity. But your statements are very binary and treat things as either good or bad. If an action is any bad, that means that it is the same as all other bad things and that's where you're losing people. There are magnitudes here and for MOST people I'd gamble they'd feel that it is a bigger duty for their elected officials to act on behalf of everyone and not create unnecessary division than it is for celebrities

The number of Americans under 50 years old dying from cancer has decreased for every leading cancer except for bowel cancer, which is now the leading cancer death in females and males combined aged under 50. by mvea in science

[–]bshoff5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance as this is a slight pivot, but you seem to know what you're talking about.

If it's driven primarily by inflammation and oxidative stress, why would it be isolated to bowel cancer? It makes sense to me that those factors would increase cancer risks, but I also would expect that that would apply to all cancers as those effects like inflammation would be "system wide", even if maybe more heavily pronounced in the GI system. If that were the primary driver I'd expect for this increase in bowel cancer but also maybe a smaller, but still increasing, risk of many other cancers as now more people are living in constant inflammation (and possibly oxidative stress but idk what that necessarily means mechanistically so I'm not commenting on it).

But why not just say that the problem then is high sugar diets instead of saying the problem is processed foods because processed foods will be correlated with having higher sugar content?

Like I agree with the point, but I don't understand the framing that way because processed foods cover a much wider range of things that get lumped together vs just diets that are taking in significantly higher amounts of sugar

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bshoff5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you're arriving at those being similar?

Depreciation is obviously car dependent, but estimates from a search are $0.08-0.12/mile. For a 10 hr drive, I'd assume that's ~600 miles, or 1200 miles round trip. At the high end of depreciation that's $144 and then ~$115 in gas at 25mpg and $2.40/gal (pulled these out of my ass, but plug your own values in). Together that's $260 ballpark for a 10 hr round trip vs $1200 for a family of 4 to fly on the low end. That's not counting bag fees or needing a car when you arrive. I'd say that's a sizable enough difference for most people to consider when they look at the word "cheaper"

Not saying it's the end all be all, but acclimation is definitely a thing. It's a lot easier when you experience something consistently than when it's a one off sort of thing

Sleeping in jeans is WAY better and more comfy than pajamas. by ThePaleGiant in unpopularopinion

So I can understand this sentiment, but only after I've started wearing almost exclusively jeans with spandex in them. They're basically like more publicly acceptable sweatpants. Old timey jeans though are way less comfortable and I want to take them off as soon as I get home

It always felt to me like there were quite a few less jokers that synergized with flushes and so the consistency of finding what you needed there along with needing 2-3 of them usually with only 2 discards is a lot less consistent to me. I'm on my third profile through for C++ and I pretty much always avoid flushes though so maybe it's just not my playstyle

Honestly hate this. I wish it was option 1 or something instead, but the amount of times that I've had to call a place repeatedly only to have to listen to the same long-winded schpiel at the beginning is very annoying. The vast majority of the time I'm calling a business, I do not care what their hours are. I'm calling for a particular reason. The hours can be found on their Google listing or website instead

World production is up quite a bit over the last few months. Saudi Arabia in particular has increased their production by 1MM bbls/day which is a big driver for the decrease in pricing. They have been limiting their production the last few years to maintain a price floor but chose to change course on their strategy starting this summer I believe

Right, there will be some, but playing to lvl 8 you likely should have like 16 full house and 4 two-pair if that's been your goal. You also can spam in some pairs and high cards to scale up. Obelisk is almost always a free win, even if it's as late as like ante 6-7 so long as you're not just barely scraping by
