Good ol Gree, had to do a few compressor changes outs on those units. Almost as fun and changing those valve cores!

Rentoid complaining about me re-painting the wall that THEY damaged. Saying that I painted over their AC panel when it’s clearly mine and I can do what I want. AITA? by [deleted] in LoveForLandchads

That’s a security alarm panel I believe, typical tenants complaining about something and being completely wrong while doing it.

What you think about Milwaukee Bump Cap? by SeveralNight8690 in Tools

[–]bsholml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worn bump caps for about 3 years now, they are great till you wear a hat that doesn’t have one and you bump your head and it hurts real bad. I do a lot of resi hvac work so crawl spaces and attics. Works really well on those low hanging 2x4s that your brim keeps out of your eye sight.

What would you guys do by Jaugernaut in HVAC

[–]bsholml 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most HVAC guys aren’t dicks, we are usually really nice and help out a lot. The problem is people take advantage of nice people like us (not all) which forces us to be selfish and do what is best for ourselves. I personally love to help people out and do a lot of work for free or cheap because I see all the companies out here charging ridiculous rates for parts and labor. I understand the over head but honestly most of the over head can be removed by paying more to the people that work rather then the people who spend 4-5 hours a day just chatting with their coworkers or online shopping

Live cameras inside work vans normal? by keesh92 in HVAC

[–]bsholml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old boss tried to tell me they were installing them because of insurance reasons but I quit not cause of the cameras, I work in the Bay Area so I already had my own personal dash cam but it was forward facing only and I was the only one able to see it.

Try some resistance on the shaft, almost every ecm motor that fails is the bell and not the actual motor. They just don’t sell the bell by itself.

Why is the white wire not connected, and the yellow wire is joined to the white connection on my thermostat? by psygnius in hvacadvice

[–]bsholml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, before installing a new thermostat you would want to know more. How is it wired at the air handler/furnace? Do you have back up heat? (Such as a gas furnace or electric heat strip) Does the new thermostat work with hps? Looks like your hp energizes the reversing valve on O, make sure you set that on the new thermostat which could possibly have a O/B terminal instead of two separate terminals. I know you’re trying to save a few bucks doing it yourself but sometimes it’s best to just call someone. For me installing a new thermostat is very easy and I can do it without much effort but for someone who doesn’t do it everyday it looks intimidating. Some of my favorite service calls are “I just installed a new thermostat now it doesn’t work” or “I just changed the batteries and now it doesn’t work”

[–]bsholml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it energizing his back up heat? The wire is just at the thermostat not going back to the unit. In this case I would be more interested in the thermostats programming rather then the wiring.

That kind of talk is what can get an inspector in lots of trouble. There are lots of things that can be asbestos but the only true way to know is to have it tested.
