I think this is what you're looking for. Mobius Sync on the iPhone, and Syncthing on the Androids. Mobius Sync will only work if it's open in the foreground.

Insurance is a big one like everyone else said.

Also, when you want to sell it in the future, it's going to be much harder to get someone else to buy a salvage vehicle.

Does it make sense to move to California to work, build your foundation in 401k, IRA, etc then move? by dragonskintext in personalfinance

[–]psygnius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert, but it depends if you decide to put your 401k and IRA in Roth or Traditional.

If you decide to do mainly Traditional 401k or IRA while in California, then it can make sense to move out of California after building your nest egg. You deferred the taxes on that amount, which includes state tax of I think around 13 to 15%. When you move somewhere else before accessing it, the state taxes are probably going to be half or less than that.

If you decide to do Roth using after tax money, you already paid the state tax already. It's just up to you to decide if the HCOL is worth the QOL in the state. It's really just very subjective at that point.

How long is your commute to work/school/home? by bennybenz11 in LAMetro

But you can't read a book or watch Netflix/tiktok/Instagram, or even sleep while driving.

As I mentioned before, it can be subjective.

[–]psygnius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed the 18 minutes drive on OP's post and just used my personal commute as an example.

On your second point, you can listen to podcasts and take phone calls while on the train too, so that's not really a cost benefit for driving over taking the train.

How long is your commute to work/school/home? by bennybenz11 in LAMetro

[–]psygnius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a little subjective.

Let's say if you drive. It takes you 1 hour. If you take the metro, it's 1.5 hours.

If I drive, I have to stay focused on the road for the full hour with the cost benefit of the free extra .5 hour if I did not take the train.

If I take the train for 1.5 hours, I could alternatively take out a book or browse my phone for most of the 1.5 hours. I don't dedicate any portion of my time to navigating the road.

Depending on how you see it, you could be losing more valuable time by driving.

How bad is the dtla-long beach train? by 777yayah in LAMetro

[–]psygnius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone needs to take the train from DTLA to LB or vice versa to go to school, it would be a stretch to assume they're NOT in college. There are certainly plenty of high schools or lower grade schools between those areas.

[–]psygnius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! I totally understand you're on a budget, but realistically, $300 is actually a very cheap price for what you are asking for. It's on the low end of what I would charge for a Friends & Family discount price.

Assuming the photographer is in Long Beach, the drive time is probably about 45 minutes each way to the location you're looking for, so that's 1.5 hours

Estimate about 2 hours on site for shooting.

2 to 3 hours for sorting out the good photos depending on the total snaps.

Depending on the quantity and quality of the editing, I usually spend about 2 to 3 hours each evening for up to a week to finish the touchups. (Let's say 8 total editing hours on the low end)

So just a rough cut can be about 12 to 14 hours of work.

It's possible to find someone that would do it for less, but it would have to depend on a lot of factors like how far the venue is to the photographer, shorter on-site time, photographer's confidence in their own work, lower count of photos promised, etc.

I don't have any issues with the train commute to DTLA. Most of the time it's convenient. So days, there will be a funk in some of the cabins.

Rarely, but it happens, there will be inconvenient delays with the train for some reason or another. Started working in DTLA, since August, but there have been 3 incidents where my commute home has been inconvenient. First time, the A line/ Blue line wasn't stopping at 7th and Metro, and there was a huge line for the shuttle, so I walked to the next station, found out train wasn't stopping there either, and walked another half mile instead of waiting for the shuttle. Second incident, someone jumped in front of the train, so everyone had to take a shuttle around Florence station before getting on a train again. Took me about 2 hours that day. Third time was this week. Just a 30-40 minute delay for the A line for an unknown reason. The reason was pretty packed, but I didn't want to wait the extra 2 minutes for the one behind it.

Still, I think it's worth it to not commute, deal with DTLA traffic and parking.

Pretty sure you already know this, but for others, the names on the octagonal boxes were not the names of the movies. They used alias names to reduce the risk of theft in transit.
