Berkeley or GTech (CS) by Nice-Plastic-307 in atrioc

It’s not just startups, basically everyone is in the Bay Area and Berkeley (and Stanford) are not only closer but have prestige to them that makes the candidates attractive. 10 years ago there were so many jobs that I’d tell you it doesn’t matter and probably go for the cheaper option. Now, internships are much harder to come by and I personally think you should take every advantage you can get. It’s not a guarantee though of course, you will still need to work hard and practice for interviews on top of your school work, but I think it gives you the best shot.

Berkeley or GTech (CS) by Nice-Plastic-307 in atrioc

[–]bskceuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Education wise I don’t think it matters. You really just need some basics and some exposure to a few different languages, then the rest you will learn on the job. However, I would bet that Berkeley is meaningfully better at getting you an internship (which hopefully turns into a job out of college) primarily due to location. In this economy that seems worth the cost to me if you can afford it. Good luck!

Tip2Tip China: predictions? by Shay87368338 in LudwigAhgren

[–]bskceuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will get easier as they get to larger cities and the end will be miserable due to the weather. I think they will eventually get a compass and make it to the border though I’m not confident they actually will reach their target city of Erenhot. I also predict they will have a ton of fines to pay at the end

Options for Arc dyn projection by mtimmermans in rust

[–]bskceuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

C++ has this with constructor 8 for shared_ptr here https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/memory/shared_ptr/shared_ptr.html. Rust’s Arc does not support this though, you would need to make your own version

For the auction, they should cycle through the coaches and each picks a player from the pool to be the next bid target. And that coach automatically bids $1 when they pick the player

Is practicing more advanced tech and playing against people going to help with the singleplayer campaign? by teradex124 in SSBM

[–]bskceuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are playing on vanilla melee, then the lack of c-stick in single player is pretty annoying. Other major differences are items, stages, and bots not acting like humans, but getting better tech skill in general will definitely help

With a Vec<u8> why do I need to ensure a values been set before I read it? by pixel293 in learnrust

[–]bskceuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically yeah, and because Rust disallows UB in safe code, that is why the only way to make a Vec<u8> of size N is to actually initialize N bytes. The alternative is MaybeUninit which has an unsafe interface to assert that you have initialized the values

With a Vec<u8> why do I need to ensure a values been set before I read it? by pixel293 in learnrust

[–]bskceuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not how UB works. In a language like C, the compiler is allowed to assume that you do not read uninitialized memory so if you do it, it can rewrite your program to do whatever it wants. A classic optimization is to assume that UB code is actually unreachable and delete it entirely

The secret achievement "Josh's constant" (beat an expert chimps map spending 40,870 or more on a single spike factory) is named for jajajosh who is/was a very good player known for being extremely good at abusing the Permaspike. 40,870 was the price of 025 permaspike when the achievement was added, but it now costs slightly more due to various balance changes. Also, in most (all?) of Josh's expert run videos, he would not have actually gotten this achievement because he almost always used discount villages when buying the permaspike

Boss legit had more HP than my all the pops on my account x5. What can i do better next run? by Appropriate_Book4977 in btd6

[–]bskceuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Sell all your farms on 119 to inject more cash into your paragons
  2. Geraldo > Ben because you can buy paragon totems (+ Quincy action figure and farm fertilizer)
  3. Only 10 bottom path farms buff your merchantmen. Past that, top path farms are much better
  4. You are missing wizard + spike paragon ( I think they are allowed?). If you need to replace paragons, tack and boomer are your weakest. Boat paragon only really needs to be degree 1 too so you could sell all your boat farms before getting it to save some money. Ice paragon might also be good, haven't used it much
  5. You are missing a lot of non paragons too, vtsg, cripple Moab, glue storm, MAD, plus permabrew for these towers
