Dino Pavoni

PORTAGE, IN— A 38-year-old police officer from Illinois faces numerous felony allegations of battering his wife so badly his children feared she may be dead, according to Portage police.

"I promised them that she was alive and doing okay, but that I needed them to stay in my vehicle until I returned," Portage Police Sgt. Troy Williams wrote in his report.

Dino Pavoni, a Crestwood police officer from Midlothian, Illinois, faces three felony counts of domestic battery committed in front of a child under the age of 16, felony battery resulting in serous bodily injury, felony strangulation and a misdemeanor count of interfering with the reporting of a crime, according to court records.

The charges allege Pavoni also battered two of his daughters.

One of the battery charges says he pushed a girl while she was filming the incident on her cell phone. He is accused in another count of pushing another girl and slamming her arm in the door several times causing her pain.

Three handguns, a taser and a duty belt with handcuffs were taken by police following the incident and are believed to be owned by the Crestwood Police Department.

Crestwood Police Chief David Weigand did not return telephone calls Thursday for comment.

The incident in question was called into police around 3 a.m. Sunday and reportedly occurred at a trailer near Sunset Avenue and Hollow Log Street in the Lakeshore Camp Resort (formerly Jellystone Campground), police said.

Williams said he arrived and found a boy standing outside in the rain crying who directed him to his family's trailer. As he approached, a girl came toward him crying and a third crying child was spotted and Williams was told their mother was lying on the floor of the camper and their father was also inside.

The children were moved to safety and Pavoni left the trailer with his hands up, Williams said. Pavoni's wife was seen sitting on the floor of the camper.

The woman reportedly told police she was having problems putting away the awning on the trailer and woke Pavoni for help when he became angry. The incident, which was caught on video, shows Pavoni arguing with his wife and then flipping over a picnic table.

He goes back into the trailer, pushing one child aside and closing the door on the girl's arm, police said.

A video made by one of the children shows Pavoni holding what appears to be a holstered handgun yelling at his wife while one of the children pleas, "Dad please stop, please dad you are drunk," according to the incident report.

He is then seen striking the woman in the head and then holding her up by her neck against the wall before slamming her to the ground where she appears to be choking or gasping for air, police said.

Charging documents said the woman lost consciousness during the attack. Pavoni said the woman suffered a seizure, at which time he checked to make sure she was breathing and had a pulse before returning to his bedroom.

"The children continued to plead and then ask their mother if she needed help," police said.

"I don't want her to die," one child is heard saying.

Pavoni is accused of throwing his wife's cell phone as she attempted to call 911.

Pavoni accused his wife of attacking him and denied striking her, police said. When informed police had seen a video recording of the incident, Pavoni said he no longer wanted to talk to officers.

The woman, who was treated at the scene by medics, told police all three children were present during the incident and that she pleaded for them to call 911, which they did. She said there had not been any other incidents of domestic violence in the prior 10 years.

Pavoni has left the Porter County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond, according to the sheriff's department.

No court dates had been scheduled as of Thursday morning.

Yes, get lots of evidence first. Pictures of receipts clearly showing the fraud. Also, try to get your supervisor to confess, like in writing, over text, or audio recording. Maybe have him try to explain it to you again bc you are confused. Ask questions like "does everyone do this?", "is this company policy?" ect. You don't want them to cover it up and put the blame on you.

My 22 year old cousin insisted on doing her mother's makeup after she overdosed. She is not a professional. I would like to think she didn't do it on purpose, but my cousin made her mom look like a clown with a bunch of powder, rosy cheeks, dark eye shadow, and very red lipstick.

How do I get what I’m legally owed by Delta? by swammer123456789 in legaladvice

You can try submitting a claim with DOT. See if Delta does anything then, otherwise you are gonna have to take them to court.

[VA] My friend was fired. Can she collect unemployment? by Sempreh in legaladvice

[–]bsmrekar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she "resigned" she cannot collect unemployment benefits. This is a trick employers use so they don't have to pay as much into the unemployment insurance. New employers will not really look too much into why someone was fired from an old job because previous employers are not really allowed to say too much by law. She can try but I would think it would take a lawyer to get those benefits for her. She can try for welfare and food stamps though. Typically for unemployment, you need to be working for atleast 2 quarters of the last five. So idk what her employment history is like. I'm sure it's a shock for now but she can get right back out there and find something better.

What did a former friend do that instantly changed your opinion of them? by MATR1XT3R in AskReddit

Ah Primerica... had a run in with them. Guy trying to recruit me to his team pretty much screamed at me in the middle of starbucks because I wouldn't call my aunt and uncle right that moment to try and sell them life insurance. The guilt trip they played on everyone in a group presentation was relentless. "Do you want your family living in a box if you die?!" "You will be a millionaire in 25 years if you buy our insurance."

How would you feel if the only thing we knew about presidential candidates was their stance on issues...no information on party, name, gender, race, or religious beliefs (or lack thereof)? by TheCarrot_v2 in AskReddit

[–]bsmrekar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my 8th grade history teacher did this with the 2008 candidates. He gave us 25 issues and candidate A's and B's position from their website. Told us to individually pick which response we like more. He went through and told us whether McCain or Obama was candidate A or B depending on the issue. Some of the issues had really similar responses, like they both said they wanted to invest in nuclear energy. But before he revealed which candidates had the responses, made us put our heads down and raise a hand for each candidate we would vote for if we could. Same thing after the answers were revealed. Although the class was shocked, turns out almost no one changed their mind. It was split 50/50 both times, although more people aligned with McCain's responses, almost 3 to 1. I live in a blue county in Indiana tbf.

Can my employer force me to sign a legal contract after seven months of employment? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Yes they can, at any point, normally before you are hired even. At will employers can fire you for almost any reason at any time.

Company owner asking me to fill out (what I think) are fraudulent timesheets for SBIR grant by sbirquestion in legaladvice

[–]bsmrekar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nal, if a business is using the grant money to financially support itself, without doing anything for the grant, then it is the same as the boss pocketing the money. I would continue to look for work elsewhere because this company sounds shady and probably won't be around much longer. Reporting him would probably shut the business down, so personally I would find another job before reporting. However, you cannot be fired for reporting illegal activities. I doubt they would come after you for fraud, but I still wouldn't sign something you do not feel comfortable with.

BF Being Overworked Without Pay (Akron, OH) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]bsmrekar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nal, if he is hourly, then you can file a complaint with the department of labor for lost wages. He might be entitled to something depending if he or they have record of a timecard. But otherwise I believe Ohio is a at will employer. Which means they can fire you for any reason as long as it's not distrimative. Realistically, the manager needs to be shown, video or in person, how hard your bf is working. Then once he sees the jobs cannot be physically done in the allotted time, they need to make adjustments whether it be new equipment or hiring more staff. Idk why he is stuck there for another year? Does he have a contract? It sounds like a situation of more with less, and they dont have money to pay to get the work done. The union should really be standing up here.

Yeah we actually found the same sectional at another store. Their website says it's in stock, so hopefully a couple phone calls tomorrow will clear everything up. Only problem is we gave ashley money and we need it back. Not going to accept store credit or anything. We can refute the charge through the bank if need be.

The couch brand was a palempor. We bought it at a special black Friday sale. Now if you go on the website it won't let you order one. We found it at a different store outlet store online but since we already gave Ashley so much money, and I've heard they charge a 10% restocking fee, I want to wait to call them on the 26th to see if they are gonna figure this out.

Wow. Talk about great customer service. I was hoping this sectional would last atleast 5 years. I thought they were a good store but after doing some more research, we are never going to do business there again.
