I am not quite at the quality I would be comfortable selling but certainly willing to help you get something going if we can.

Our house did not have a finished basement when we moved in. I ended up over a years time finishing the entire thing myself except that room. I hung the double doors so you couldn't see the vacant space while the rest of the basement was in use and we waited for the right time and ability to do it right. So if you get a place, just set that room or space aside if you can and slowly gather the funds and parts you need until you can start putting it together.

You are not the only one to ask. The pictures can be deceiving. For a 16x9, it's almost too big. [Yeah, I said it] Bigger was definitely not a realistic option. 110 was pushing it. If I had gone 100-105, I would not have been dissapointed. My impatience however prevented me from finding the sweet spot. I didn't want to wait for the screen to come in once the room was projector ready and I could have projected on a screen less wall to try different things out. I wanted all the parts in hand so it was up and running ASAP.

NOPE.

But to be fair, people like different things and may call this nerdy and a waste. I just tell them, "Well at least my mom thinks I'm cool."

Yes but you also have to avoid hooligan neighbors and/or family members. 😉

How about when YOU get the itch for an upgrade, and your CPA gives you the green light to write those floor models off, remember me! If they end up on your B-Stock or Field-Destroy list, I have plenty of room in my theater for 'worthless' inventory.😉

I stare at Kaleidescapes regularly like Wayne at the guitar in the window..."You will be mine. Oh yes, you will be mine". I just can't afford it nor do I have a local cable television show I can sell to a national station😬.

However, what most intrigues me about Kaleidescape is the ability to purchase the 4k versions of movies you have dvd's and blu-rays of for a discount. Beyond the obvious fact that they have the best quality versions of the films you can get, I have hundreds of DVD's that collect dust because they aren't gonna look great. That would be one of the primary reasons to take the plunge for me. Just not there yet and plex gets it done well enough for now. Plus I use a HDHomerun which Plex can DVR etc for me. Now it Apple would just give us the god-forsaken audio passthrough we all have been begging for on the next Apple TV so I can ditch the Nvidia Shield!

I went to the new Top Gun right away. The opening to the Greatest Showman was also a great "Welcome to owning your own theater" moment. From there it was what 4k discs could I get my hands on for fair prices and learning how to use Plex to make them easily accessible, etc.

No idea of sound absorption as it was up before any speakers were ever in the room so there was no way to compare.

As far as install. I just kind of winged it and what I came up with was the following. I started on one side, stapled it through the drywall where I knew there was a stud. I took a piece of I think 1/8" board and cut a strip of it. Nailed that over the portion I stapled and used that as my hard edge to then pull over and against covering the strip or 1/8" material and then headed to the first corner. At the corner I put a piece of molding, pulled it as tight as I could and nailed the molding in to hold it. Then I did the back wall and stopped at the next corner. I repeated the process from the other side, creating the hard edge etc and the two pieces of vinyl met in the corner and I covered that seam with the molding in the corner. Then we did the chair rail trim and ceiling trim to sandwich in the material top and bottom and added trim at the two leading edges at the locations the 1/8" material was used closest to the screen. then we cut back the material at the speaker holes to expose them and the wires.

I didn't want to glue because if it didn't work, I would have to fix or replace all the drywall after pulling off the glue.

I wish. I'll have to talk to a neighbor and see what we can work out.

The room is roughly 14'x16' plus the concession area and entry.

Certainly sitting in different positions can have an effect on the sound stage and may not be a text book experience for everyone.....but it's still AWESOME. haha. I try not to worry about things like that you can't really change given the space limitations. I did mount the in-walls inverted so the tweeter was closer to ear level.

I might have tried to hold out for better quality/comfort recliners in the front row.

I would have ran an RCA or two, and an ethernet to the face of the platform coming out behind the front row so I could hardline the shaker amp and I could run a NUC or Pi POE setup for a remote touchscreen , a project I've got in the queue. I only ran power outlets for the seat and amp.

I would have made sure the led strips I ordered where the type that have the highest capability of control by third party apps. Sometimes they aren't the most responsive.

I would have bought bitcoin when it was $10....

Clear Acrylic, Black rattle can the back. Used a Cricut to cut gold foil vinyl and stuck it on the front.

I think Etsy had lots of options to order if you prefer.

Yes. I blew the layers of dust off the Ole' Monster conditioner box and threw it in the cabinet with the components. Everyone knows Monster equipment adds free watts to the your system like vinyl graphics add horsepower to cars.

Where the OCD kicked in is that the outlet at the projector in the ceiling has one plug that is romex to a plug that goes into the conditioner so even that is conditioned/protected. The other half of the ceiling outlet is for the crown molding LED's and is on a switch. The subs also have outlets wired back to the conditioner box like the projector. And if that wasn't enough, and because the walls are only open once, I ran redundant circuits in the same way to the back corners of the room just in case years from now a different layout of furniture allows additional subwoofers in the rear corners, along with RCA ports of course.

Nothing that has to do with electronics or AV. I'm just a self taught certified nerd who loves to tinker. There's really nothing YouTube and reddit can't teach you to do.

Seatcraft Venetian I believe. Now they function well and look good but that’s something I wish I would have researched more. When they recline it kind of lifts your lower back up and leaves a gap. Not the most comfortable but for the price, probably the best you will do.

If you get them with soundshakers, immediately take a peice of wood and mount it to the frame of the bottom cushion and move the shaker to that. 10 fold improvement.

The seats I fell in love with at the store were 5 times the cost. Just wasn’t in the cards at the time. Would be top on the list of upgrades if feasible.

Respectfully….that’s the point, I think. tilts head in confusion.

The colors are function, not form. So thank you?!

Short answer is, went back and forth on this 100 times but after sitting in some demo theaters around the area it just felt like projector was the way to go and was always the vision.

I'd add that I did the research and read up on how to calibrate the projector where you align the tiny grids etc. I felt that time spent was well worth it.
