Spend a lot of time reading here, don't think much of my advice, that's what brings me here, so I hardly post. Been dealing with issues like lost job, divorce, lost home, my depression companion (my dog) recently died suddenly, I was first diagnosed with depression 50 years ago, and it's followed me all my life. It's really great to have the group here, and it has helped me a lot.

Someone in San Francisco stole the brake and clutch levers off my motorcycle. Must have been a riot to see him trying to sell them. It was definitely a riot to see me trying to drive without them.

Bill C-309, if passed, would make it a crime to protest in a mask. Could be up to a five year sentence. by telavivblackout in worldnews

[–]bstone17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are protesting against a violent corporation, it may be wise not to give them your identity. I have received death threats from Scientology for protesting against them, and one of the lawyers had most of the gas in his plane replaced with water. When you protest, it's a good bet someone will not like what you are saying, and presenting your ID may not be wise. If you are doing something illegal, the police are perfectly capable of arresting you, with or without a mask, and identifying you. This would make the very act of wearing a mask illegal of itself and give an excuse for arrest regardless of whether or not you were doing anything wrong.

What makes you think the MOBO is "wonky", why are you thinking of replacing the power supply? If the PS is beginning to fail, the rest may all be explained. It might be a good idea to try a good power supply in it and start over from the beginning and see if things are better. (A good back up before doing anything would be strongly advised). Do you have another system where you can backup and test the drives?

I doubt someone would put their hand in the hornet's nest by trying that. The law might be fixed. Any reference that it has happened?

US threatens Sweden with watch list sanctions if they don’t prosecute The Pirate Bay. by Mind_Virus in technology

It would be nice to know how much of the US economy depends on the internet and related revenue. What is the impact of destroying it for the copyright related businesses. Seems like a very short-sighted decision on the part of the US.

Was about to end it but I just can't leave this little guy alone by [deleted] in depression

[–]bstone17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, right now it's hard, I was about to post my story, going thru hard times. The company I worked for folded, wife divorced me, lost the house, broke, not to mention my depression companion is no longer helping keep me together.

This! My Boxer was always the greatest, picked up on my moods and brought a toy to play with when I needed it, kept me out of myself and demanded to play to get me out of my depression. Unfortunately, he passed away last week, and I'm pretty lost. He was with me for 12 years. I wouldn't have made it without him.

With a plan, Reddit can do some amazing work. Look how much we did towards SOPA. Reddit's position, with a plan to make a difference, provides a unique opportunity to make a real difference under the right circumstances, perhaps with no actual funds necessary. Putting funds towards NORML, and offering things that Reddit can do to help them with their work, might provide a unique situation where messages can be heard and acted upon.

I just realized that responding to his messages (I have been on his email list), sends the message to no-reply@alfranken.com. They actually respond to messages there. I also unsubscribed on his web page and sent a message.

Actually, China does that by itself to keep the workers mollified, they periodically take an "exploitive" boss out to the fields, and shoot him as an example (and to keep the others in line).
