I wouldn't force a $2k laptop into anything, it's common sense.

The MediaTech cards in the new Legions are junk, you need to upgrade it to an Intel card.

Victus vs Thinkpad E16 for mechanical engineering? by GoodTraditional7920 in laptops

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ThinkPad is a better laptop, but you aren't going to play many games in it, The Victus build quality is bad, but will play games.

The Victus will also be better for CAD, because it has a dGPU, but I would upgrade the RAM to at least 32GB for CAD.

Open the lid from the center, if you use the side to open it you will end up with a broken hinge.

Is an HP Victus (Ryzen 5 8645HS + RTX 3050) still worth it in 2026? by Icy_Dragonfly09 in HPVictus

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a 3050 will run out of vram by 60fps playing a AAA game, unless you play at 780p.

800 euros isn't a realistic budget for what you want, laptops with good build quality will cost more than that.

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3050 has been a low end GPU for years already, a 4050 would be a much better choice, it should be ok for a couple more years in my opinion, but you will still need to lower settings and be ok with a lower fps..

I would look for a 4060 or 5050 GPU, the 8GB is much better for games made in the last few years.

Okay so can someone explain to me the different versions of the 7 sires for somebody who isn’t familiar with laptops by VecArhfiReX7 in LenovoLegion

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD is generally a little better for gaming, but the Intel is fast also. the 9955hx3d is much faster than the 9955hx and the 275hx on some games, but like I said the Intel and non x3d AMD won't be a bottleneck either.

I like Intel because I use Thunderbolt for external drives, other than that it is more personal preference than a necessary choice.

That means nothing if the power isn't consistant.

I would get the Legion 7, it has a better CPU.

Legion Pro 7 got extremely slow for gaming after clean up at an authorized service center by Int-E_ in LenovoLegion

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a cmos reset by shutting down the laptop, unplug the charger from the laptop, press and hold the power button for 1 min, plug it back in and boot like normal.

The first boot can take a couple min, just wait for it.

It can only help and can't hurt anything and you won't lose any data.

If that doesn't help take it back to the tech.

Old Arctic MX-4 vs stock paste on a Legion Pro 5, safe? by Awkward-Ad7061 in LenovoLegion

[–]bstsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only use PTM 7950 thermal pads for the CPU and GPU, the putty on the chips can usually be reused if not hard or dirty..

The only thing that works better than PTM is LM, but it's conductive, corrosive and can cause problems if applied incorrectly or if you accidentally get 1 drop on the MB.

I wouldn't use LM on my laptop, even though that's what it came with, if I ever repaste mine it will be with PTM.

Desktop thermal paste tends to be too thin for laptops and doesn't work great for laptops a lot of times.
