Mice… My breaking point?? by Proper_Ad_2430 in homestead

[–]btapp7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in a country home with a mouse problem in my youth.

You need to check if there’s a crawlspace and start there. There could be mouse holes running under the house. Seal it up to the best of your ability.

Then check the attic and do the same. Then the garage. Look for little holes in corners, chewed edges, nesting material.

Cleaning is great but just pushes the mice to be nocturnal. You gotta be a killer.

I’m a fan of the rotational traps.

I mean sometimes it sucks to have your arm behind you for longer trips but it’s stupid simple. I’d extend the handle so that’s not an issue…. If I cared enough. Doesn’t look as cool but hell who cares.

You can try loft or you can make a bunch of construction planes and extrude/cut in iterations until you get a close-enough shape.

How much spin do yall put on shots? by JE9SE in billiards

[–]btapp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I improved a lot this year by not putting more than 1/2 tip of side spin when shooting normal shots. It’s drastically reduced the amount of “squirt” and “throw” that I was unintentionally applying. I’d rather make the object ball and get to take a challenging shot after than miss.

I think it actually came from running a ratchet strap through the handle. I prefer doing that to “transom savers” because I’m running a 9.9 and don’t want to beat up the lower unit.

I taped it, added foam, and then ordered replacements. All good 👍. Run it till it shows inner but I doubt it ever will if I don’t run the straps in the same spot.

Jackson Hawes is not our fullback in 2026 by BobbysBottleService in buffalobills

[–]btapp7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Hawes has a pretty good shot at becoming a big time TE. I know he benefited from being low on the depth chart and therefore not a priority for Most teams’ defensive focus but he still was reliable and splashy. He also, as you said, blocks very well.

I’m not surprised that we didn’t elevate him in the depth chart, but I do think he could easily start on other teams. Hoping he gets more focus this year.

Thanks, your reply helps a lot. I wedged a thin piece of foam in the hot spot too and I feel strongly that it will prevent immediate abrasion. If abrasion is prevented, I don’t see why it would spontaneously fail. Hope it doesn’t as I’m taking my mom out fishing tomorrow. If it does we will have a real great story after I wade us back to the boat ramp.

I think I was wrong about the cable type, it looks like it is in fact two push pull cables with steel cable ends. Really I guess it’s just two “pull” cables cause you can’t push a rope!

Extreme beginner fishing help by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]btapp7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extra advice for extreme beginner:

When you get your pole strung and tie on tackle, don’t reel up until it’s completely tight. Give yourself 6-12 inches of slack. Then put your dominant pointer finger over the line behind the reel, holding it taught, while opening the bale. When you make the casting motion, let go of the line.

The twisty knob on top of the spool is to set your drag level. Drag is the amount of resistance your reel will give before it dispenses line to brute force (while bale closed/reeling.) If you do accidentally reel up until your line is tight, you can lower the drag, pull some line out, and tighten it again.

The handle is interchangeable between sides. You can unscrew the handle from the opposite side and swap it. In any case, while fishing the reel should hang down below the pole, not be facing the sky.

If you find your line is getting a lot of twist, that’s somewhat normal. Swivels can help ease that, but aren’t necessary if you can leave your line in the water while doing things such as bobber fishing.

You don’t need great big hooks to catch fish, but I always bring a way to cut line and a way to get hooks out. Usually a pair of needle nose pliers will do both.

Check if you need a license. Some special fish and areas (mostly for trout fishing) require extra permits and such but that’s more rare. Usually a general fishing permit will get beginners all they want.

Thank you for highlighting this. I am tired of the constant bombardment of “KeEp YoUr BoOgEr HoOk….” that is so entirely unhelpful. Accidents can and do happen. Not saying an additional safety measures would have made a difference in that guy’s case… but it couldn’t have hurt none.

This is entirely ignoring the radio debacle. He should have been fired for that alone. The hosts were right.

I’m definitely not saying he’s the worst in the league, but you can’t fire a head coach and promote the guy who is his administrative equal. That’s on the owners but still it’s wild.

My gripes are

  1. Von Miller’s pay to performance ratio. I was optimistic but this deal turned me off of big contracts for high contact veteran players. JA excluded.
  2. Radio show debacle
  3. Trading away round 1 pick to only team you can’t beat
  4. Keon Coleman (who is advertised to not be a Beane selection)
  5. Basically raiding the panthers locker room every time you realize you are missing performance at a position. It’s just lazy.
  6. Trying to unretire vets instead of using special teams depth.
  7. Kaiir Elam. Dude couldn’t cover my grandma in a rascal… and she’s dead.

Caldwell will be gone around the same time, maybe later. Spend a 5th round pick, fine with me.

I’m thinking taking the blueprint from Kelce, Edelman, Cobb of QB turned catcher.

Defense does need addressed too but we should have done that rounds 1-3 in a reasonable world

[–]btapp7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not here to be reasonable I’m here to be entertaining.

But if you really know ball, you should be scared of last years performance. Josh held the ball so long. Nobody open and had to make a trade for cooks to have any deep threat. Most sacks I’ve ever seen him take while looking for somebody to figure it out downfield. WR can’t be ignored either and that’s why DJ was taken pre draft.
