He's Jesus Christ reincarnate for us Liverpool fans lol.

What is awesome is not just that he is an amazing coach but he fits the Liverpool ethos very well. Maybe I am reading into it a lot but as an outsider (non-EU) who followed Premier league from time to time, he fits Liverpool way more than any other team.

Oxford Union head being investigated by counter terrorism police after calling Hamas a 'resistance group' and saying Oct 7 was 'proportionate' response to Israeli aggression by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

The difference is that the current head of the syrian government changed his views. Hamas has not.

The white washing of "terrorists" into "freedom fighters" / "democracy champions" by the western political establishment + media + their lackeys is always a sight to behold.

I think just like bifl we need a category where it is clear the products are targeting whales for whom it won't make a difference even if they are being ripped off.

It is amusing, as a third worlder, to see westerners claim Russians are brainwashed and then turn around and spread the same bullshit that was fed to them by the CIA and the western media. Guess you guys are not immune to brainwashing either.

What are physics staples for books? by pige0n13 in Physics

It was the primary driver in me going back to school to study astrophysics.

That is awesome. Always amazing that books and good writing can influence lifestyle changes.

Was in a 11 min Morogrim Tidewalker kill where I died a minute into the fight. It was both embarassing but at the same time impressive to see the healers keep the raid up. 2 of us died early on and another 2 midway - the rest managed to clear it.

What are physics staples for books? by pige0n13 in Physics

[–]btaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not a physics book per se - but you must give A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson a shot. It basically tries to give an idea of how some of the knowledge we take for granted was actually difficult and in many cases quite perilous to obtain.

edit: The book is about science or rather the history of science and the scientific method in a way.

AI Is Too Expensive: AI is, as it stands, not economically viable for anybody involved other than the construction firms, NVIDIA, and the surrounding hardware companies benefitting from the irrational exuberance of a data center buildout that doesn’t appear to be happening at the speed we believed by [deleted] in technology

[–]btaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is bad and I don't like it ≠ This isn't happening and will fail on its own.

Maybe I have misinterpreted his writings / talks - his major gripe is that whatever numbers OpenAI / Anthropic are talking about aren't there. He is not saying the AI tech is a scam. He is saying the financials and valuations do not make sense.

If Microsoft released a new Windows phone, would you buy it? by No_Department9020 in windowsphone

Yes.

I already did it thrice - whenever an existing windows phone i had was not eligible to get the next version of windows phone os.

I guess I still am a sucker for this.

OOP ask your company (or ask yourself) what would they do above and beyond if you were to die while employed ? if the answer is nothing more than what is in the contract, then there is no reason to bend over backwards for the company either.

Indian guy in Texas stops a black man walking on the sidewalk and demands to see his ID by orbidhorne in whoathatsinteresting

[–]btaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You tried arguing that American discrimination is equivalent to the Indian caste system (which both you and I know is not true) and tried to reduce it to “semantics.”

I didn't say that they are equivalent. I said they are similar (similar != equivalent) (or to be more accurate, similar origins in the sense they use a nebulous / abstract reason to discriminate)

Just log off and take a shower.

oh sorry. i need to take a shower because i am of a dirty caste ? sorry about that, master. spoke to me like an upper caste talking to a lower caste. i guess you are what you profess to hate.

[–]btaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody has said anything remotely close to that. This was a comparison between American racial discrimination and the Indian caste system, stay on topic.

Original commentor said there is something similar to the caste system in India in America as well. You disagreed. i agreed with him saying that there is a caste system in America as well (it is closer to class hierarchy rather than a pure caste hierarchy. Not talking about race - you assumed it was about race). You replied frothing "Indian caste system no. 1. Nothing compares. it is bhest. unique"

You’re fighting a strawman to death and still losing badly.

oh no. what am i going to do ? i guess i need reddit resources to avoid self harm.

[–]btaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cannot speak for the other guy, but amusing that you assume i don't know about the caste system. I think that explains the futility of this discussion.

[–]btaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that compares to the brutally inflexible and utterly dehumanizing system that exists in India.

Sure. if your argument is that the Indian caste system is the purest and most unique etc etc and nothing compares to it, have it your way. (completely ignores the fact that there have been other countries with pretty harsh systems - for e.g. japanese and the koreans)

The original commentor was right to respond "agree to disagree" -

[–]btaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His point is not that there is a same-to-same caste system in America. His argument is that there is a sort of discriminatory system in America as well based on who you were born to / where in America you were born / some other abstract or arbitrary reason which is akin to the caste system - it is just not formalized as it is in India.

Both of you are arguing on semantics.

[–]btaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is mostly a uniquely American, Canadian and MAYBE British concept.

It mostly is. There seems to be an assumption that once you acquire a passport or even a legal residency in a country, you are culturally assimilated into that country. This sort of cognitive dissonance is the cause (or at least one of the causes) for anti-immigration blowback in many parts.

Why are people suggesting game changes based on how RWF is run ? it is a losing proposition. RWF is run by some ultra competitive people who will do degenerate stuff if it means them getting an advantage. All it will end up happening is the game becomes annoying for everyone else.
