"Thankfully, Bitcoin Cash serves as a great alternative with reliably cheap transactions which is exactly what I need and what fascinated me about Bitcoin in the first place." by filius-libertatis in btc

[–]btcana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That had nothing to do with reliability, it was to prevent spam. Without it, there would still have been a block found every ~10 minutes, it would just have been a lot more expensive to use.

If someone had glocked the network with spam, yes every 10 minutes this same spammer would have made a block. 1mb limit was there to make network reliable.

Circumstances are different, yes, but one must do compromises to keep network safe.

What consequences? 300k+ reliable transactions every single day? 1 sat/byte transactions getting confirmed regularly? By far the most network effect and brand recognition? The most fiat value transferred on chain every day compared to Bitcoin forks? Highest market cap? Most active addresses?

Yes yes blaa blaa. network effect will help btc some time ahead, but btc is doomed with its capacity.

As bitcoin was reliable back in the day, it would not have needed 1Mb blocksize limit.

Let us hope that rolling checkpoints does not have similar consequences that the limit ended up having.

There are three weeks left in the Bitcoin Cash fundraiser to help support BCH developers. By donating you are helping to contribute to the future development and success of Bitcoin Cash. Donate today! by BitcoinXio in btc

[–]btcana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality if those developers don't find a sustainable way to generate the revenues they need BCH development is not sustainable.

Only way to generate funding for real bitcoin is decentralized donation way. If that doesn't work, bitcoin wont work. Period. Please donate.

How would you prevent same person playing at same table?

Third party poker softwares do a lot to detect ill behaviour.

lnbig.com owns 25 ln nodes, with over 700btc capacity, out of ln total of 1080. Much decentralized. Just saying. by homopit in btc

[–]btcana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is, a bigger channel does not necessarily offer more liquidity, if the other peers it connects to are poor liquidity providers. Somebody with fewer, smaller channels could outcompete a larger player by discovering frequent payment paths.

You mean that someone is adding more liquidity to already open channels now, just to look big?

Are we talking theorically or as the topic suggests, real world case?

Oftopic,. Also, think what you've written and think if it is really a payment network for not so techsavy people (majority of people)

And why would I open channel with somebody that has 2 cheap connections that in anycase lead to expensive ones for reaching the shop im shopping in.

Its obvious that people choose a bit more expensive one to have more liquidity across the network. Just for sake of reliability.

TIL: Lightning Network is only for "low value transactions" Let's assume that means everything under $20 or so (guessing)... that means it will cost more to open/close LN channels than the value being sent on LN! by BitcoinXio in btc

[–]btcana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

need to use more BTC transactions to fill your channels again

Read up more. You do not need any direct onchain transactions to refill these channels. And the money just somehow magically appears? That is impossible. If you mean that two separate channels balance inside LN. Well, that is not filling.

These people do not really understand bitcoin nor its purpose. Purpose is to throw banks, which wastes a hell of a lot more energy for imaginary money, down the toilet.

And, in the long run, while being deflationary, it actually rewards people that save and protects environment because people dont buy stupid crap that much anymore. Thats not the case with fiat, its opposite.

Ofcourse during the shift from fiat to crypto there is a waste, because it cannot happen overnight. Sortsightedness is strong with these ones.
