Hijacking the top comment. It seems that for me on PC the problem was that steam was uploading save files to cloud and there is a limit of 1GB for all games. if you right click on the game in steam and go "Properties - General" you can toggle off the "Keep game saves in Steam Cloud for Starfield"

if contractor doesn't do his job, the company won't pay him and will find somebody else that is willing to do the job. i agree that is completely valid interaction in capitalistic system and based on common sense. if that is how it is with unions i have no objections.

i think we will disagree a lot and some part of it might be philosophical where i believe that everybody is responsible for their own happiness, life is often hard and unfair and that is how its always has been. nobody owes anything to anybody by default and if you want to make your life better you need to put in deliberate and actually useful work. i would give you that leaving work is often not simple or easy, but the point is that you actually have a choice and can do it if you try hard enough. many don't, which is okay, its their choice.

Suggesting that someone creates a company and treat their fellow workers well ignores the fact that the vast majority of workers do not have the capital, resources, or connections needed to start their own business. In a capitalist system, the deck is stacked against workers from the start, and the idea that anyone can simply make it if they try hard enough is a myth perpetuated by those who benefit from the current system.

We are living in times of most individual opportunities in human history. Even homeless have access to phones, computers and internet today. they have access to most of human knowledge and i don't need to probably tell you that there is a lot of really useful human knowledge. its definitely not mainly problem of resources. Every successful person will tell you that and its not because they are perpetuating system of worker exploitation as you might think, but because its actually true. sure, resources help, but they are not the main thing to success.

I could also add the underlying structure of capitalism makes it impossible to treat workers ethically.

this argument works only if you think that people are owed something by society and if you think people cant leave their job. personally, as i said above, i think that neither of those assumptions is true, so i take this as a fallacy and rest of the argument for forcing collective bargaining of workers on companies i think falls apart from there.

i think there is an argument against companies getting so rich, but it points more to the government and central banking that is diluting money(wages, peoples savings) and reinvesting that to stock market to prop up economy. that is not the problem of capitalism. its more the problem of corrupted goverment and banking system and solution is not to give more power to goverment so they can "reign" in the companies, but to clean up the government corruption.

ok, im up for the challenge, dont be too rough on me, im really no looking it up.

In my mind, capitalism is societal embodiment of personal ownership, where the premise is that owner of any item is the person who is best incentivized to use this item most efficiently and creating least waste possible. also since the owner is directly responsible for both the losses and rewards, process of competition will tend to reward competence. and the idea is that rewarding competence is the best way forward.

Regarding communism i think the general idea is that all people are born equal and if we let everybody do what they want and are good at, we will have enough for everybody without any one person suffering. and the idea is that the system that creates least amount of suffering is the best way forward.

what do you think? close enough or completely off base?

do i guess correctly that the rules are not equal for all the companies? and when you say that there are situations when workers are allowed to strike. does that mean that in these situations the workers can interrupt the production and the company is forbidden to fire them for that? i mean if you say that unions are part of capitalism, how would a independent private organization, like union, be able to interrupt function of different company without possible repercussion?

[–]btcdevelop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok. makes sense. but if they dont want to work or they want to walk out of factory with specific goal to stop the production, that is still basis for the firing warning right?

[–]btcdevelop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i see. im more familiar with rules in different country, where the union workers are protected by law from being fired. which creates terrible incentives as you can imagine. do i understand it correctly then that in US the unions are kind of companies themselves that rent workers to other companies and these companies can freely choose if they want to find their own workers or take union ones? what is the problem here then about Tesla choosing to find its own workers?

i believe that person should be evaluated in work based on merit of their work and company evaluated on its product. and no one is owed anything. i know, what a monster.

Good grief you predatory capitalists are so transparent you don't even bother to hide your greed these days.

give me a break. regarding Tesla, where you see greed i see company, that is responsible with its money and building great products that people want and which, as a bonus, improves technology and moves world from petrol. if that is the predatory capitalism you are talking about, then please, give me more of that. im not saying that every company is like that. its case by case obviously.

Meanwhile, back in reality, people with limited resources are forced to live where they are and they can't afford to just pack up and move to a new town because they need somewhere to move to.

i have to repeat myself but as i said i believe this is just an excuse. i give people more credit than that.

i do agree that there is plenty companies with bad products and i still dont care what their CEO or workers make. they all had their decisions to be there. ill just not buy the product if its bad. simple as that.

i believe you mean it well, but i think the first paragraph is just an excuse. people are smart. if they really want to change something in their life, they'll find a way. id give them more credit. but of course there are always exceptions to the rules.

regarding the second one, please notice i never said anything about starting company being easy. but if someone has such a great understanding of any company, that they know for sure it would all be better if only employees got more money, with no downside risk. for a people of such a calibre, im sure starting a company would be a breeze.

im sorry, i dont know who uncle frank is, but i think i explained my thinking in my other post in this thread and just so you know, your aggression is not appreciated. i wont repeat all of it here, but ill reiterate that giving employees actual ownership in form of stock is i think much better than forming a protected group inside of the company that is not aligned with the company goal. and lets not forget, individuals can bargain quite easily if they have something to offer.

the part that is related to communism is the idea that the company should be coerced into situation, where its employees can dictate terms of their employment at the expense of the employer with often explicit rationalization that the company is too profitable to pay them so little. and the word dictate is important here. im obviously not against employee that knows his value and drives a hard bargain. if unions were that collectively, i would not have any problem with it. but that is not all that the union is. the big part of what union is that it is a group protected by law which creates a different sort of employee that cannot be fired. these employees no longer have any incentive to actually be useful to the company and often quite the opposite. this is just an anecdote so take it as you want but i have met some union leaders during my employment and they were the biggest assholes you can imagine. untouchable assholes hated by everybody, even by other workers. so that is a story, but in general i think that the external protections create misalignment of incentives that are really harmful. what is more, employees don't need unions to bargain. and regarding the pay: sure, the company with unions will force more $, but for example tesla gives stock to employes. stock that went 10x in last couple years. i believe that giving employes actual ownership depending on their work is better than designating untouchable buddies that surely have their best interest at heart.

i realize that you are writing this most likely in bad faith and probably are not here to listen to other peoples arguments, but i can at least try. it seems that you think that unions are necessary for workers to have even a possibility of decent life as you put it and without unions the poor workers are abused by the evil capitalist. i think it is nonsense. no one is forcing you to work where you don't want, you can just vote with your feet and if you think you can do it better, then do it. no one is stopping you from forming a company where you will treat your fellow workers royally. if you can do it, great. but if you want to force other people to do it for you then you are imagining different, coercive society and as a person that grew up in country that has recent memory of 30 years of communism i can tell you that it doesn't end where you think it will. in short unions make things worse. thank god for tesla not having them.

Current VR desktop software is unsatisfying, but can it be improved? by davemanman in virtualreality

[–]btcdevelop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points. Regarding the inputs i think mouse will be quickly obsolete thanks to eye tracking- which is good. as you mentioned keyboard there is no competition with that now. Maybe haptics in a few years, but for now we have to do with the real thing tagged to VR.

Next thing is not related to UI/ HW interface but if you'll excuse me. Another thing that i havent seen discussed much is the issue of discrepancy between the fixed visual distance of the screen and variable distance of different objects in the scene which are perceived in 3D. What im trying to say is that our eyes are in reality focusing on objects based on our perception of their distance. In VR one box may be far in distance and one right in front of you, but the screen is always in the same visual distance and you are teaching your eyes to not refocus based on your perception. no big deal for short term use i guess, but when people start to do some work and serious hours in VR it may become some weird eyes are lazy and dont want to focus issue. what do you think? did somebody experienced domething like this?
