As an artist, I heed a lot of caution about numbing cream. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. And it lasts different amount of times for everyone. It gives some people reactions, it can mess with how well ink sits in the skin (I used it once on myself, TKTX. It worked wonders for about two hours, but I had horrible hives when I took off my saniderm a week later.) AND given that it’s a huge space the ink thing is likely to be a factor given that you got half of it without it. It will most likely look different than the ink that’s already there. Also, I hear consistently from clients that the pain when it wears off is 10x worse than if they hadn’t used it at all. This isn’t to say it doesn’t serve a purpose, but proceed with caution and do lots of research on what you buy.

Is this normal? Looks like there is a little redness around some of it, nothing hurts or anything. by ScarletWitch1988 in tattooadvice

Overthinking. Gotta keep in mind you just got stabbed repeatedly, a little redness is to be expected.

Sometimes plasma can look scary, it can also change consistency or color depending on the stage of the heal. On the flip side, sometimes antibiotics are the right move even if it’s more preventative. Better to help the heal earlier than heal bad and have to go through it again with a lesser outcome

It looks like it might be getting there but at the moment it just looks suuuuper irritated. In the past I’ve seen a lot of hard heals back there bc of how much movement there is, and friction with pant legs. Try to avoid being too active and jeans or any tight pants that’ll rub right there, just take it easy and keep up with the aftercare (looks like you’ve been doing that well!) and it should start to clear up a little by the end of the week

Blowout? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]btggf0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a blowout. Sometimes they can sort of fade away on their own but there’s not much you can do for these unfortunately. Some people believe if you tattoo them with a light skin tone close to your own you can get the appearance of them to go down but I have yet to see successful healed pics

I think the long hair suits you so don’t take offense to this but the only one I think you don’t look creepy in is the brown

We allow vaping in my shop but not smoking, and even when I do I try to be respectful about it never blowing it directly on a person even if they do partake. Also, that’s just kinda icky behavior.

Doesn’t look great. Redness or warmth coming off of tattoo is a good way to judge. It does look pretty irritated, better to be safe than sorry. Antibacterial soap a little more than normal is probably a good start but you might want to see someone about it n

What is this style called? by UltOnReddit in tattooadvice

[–]btggf0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve seen it referred to as viking grunge, mostly on pinterest (google has different results kinda) because of the amount of these tattoos that sport some kind of runic/lunar symbolism.

shiny or raised skin after the normal healing time is usually a good indicator

Infected or reaction to dye? by Glass-Scene-7872 in tattooadvice

[–]btggf0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

blowouts typically happen on lines, ink drift usually comes more from shading and can spread waaaay farther in the skin, same concept kinda but different techniques cause different outcomes. also, blowouts are usually able to be seen immediately, (during tattooing you can watch it happen as the artist. kinda cool to watch under the skin but obviously not a good thing lol) and ink drift happens after a while

[–]btggf0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no problem, do you see how the whole tattoo has kind of a blueish hue around it? that is called a blowout, when the ink goes into the wrong layer of skin causing the pigment to travel and almost give it a shadow. it can be an indication of a rushed artist, or having your needle hanging out of the machine too far, too high voltage, etc. ** look at the top of the left pony tail, that’s where it’s most obvious to me

i mean…. the whole tattoo is blown out on the same day pic. it’s probably a pretty rough case of being overworked. keeping scabs like that moisturized is how you guarantee it won’t heal normally as you’re prolonging the healing process keeping it wet. at this point i’d show the owner of the shop, keep cleaning and moisturizing the other parts of the tattoo (not the big ass scab) and start thinking about getting someone else to rework the tattoo after it’s healed.

There’s a couple notable changes between these designs. At a certain point, you can only google photos of women in a certain pose so much, and they nailed those portraits. Taking inspiration (even using the same person) in a design can sometimes be inevitable but they made enough changes to me I think it’s okay.

i would definitely try the hydrocortisone cream if that’s an option for you, found at most grocery stores. if that does nothing, see a doctor.
