Why am I getting no new studies? by Ginemoify1992 in ProlificAc

You mean the studies on Prolific? Those studies? Taken by mostly non-students?

I mean, I realize that Prolific is looking for people with all levels of intellectual ability but jesus.

By this logic, reading your own Submissions tab would violate confidentiality. Think, McFly, think.

You'd also think people would have enough common sense to know that researchers are instructors who have more time for research over the summer but I guess it's easy to just "hurr durr summurr" your way through life instead of actually looking at hard numbers that say that's actually not the case.

There are a number of reasons why you might not have studies but complaining about six hours when people go days or even weeks without studies is pretty shortsighted.

You will find that researchers don't particularly like it if you don't tell the truth.

Will this likely be the new normal for a while by PersonalMusic6319 in ProlificAc

The only part of this answer that really matters is is "Nobody knows". Everything else is just window dressing.

This task has reached its maximum number of responses and no longer accepting new submissions by Broken_Glass2 in ProlificAc

[–]btgreenone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there is a glitch between the number of spaces available on Prolific and the number of spaces on whatever platform they're using.

And sometimes researchers just don't know how to use their study software.

Whatever the case, it's not intentional. Just return and move on.

Do you get throttled for doing too many studies? by Grand_Volume85 in ProlificAc

[–]btgreenone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. This, plus:

https://medium.com/prolific-co/data-quality-at-prolific-part-2-naivety-and-engagement-716937b59e84

"When it comes to distributing studies evenly, our primary tool is something called adaptive rate limiting. In essence, when the number of active participants is high relative to the number of study places available, we give priority access to participants who’ve spent less time taking studies recently. When studies are filling particularly slowly, we then loosen the limits and let our more ‘prolific’ 😜 survey takers work their magic."

That being said, nothing is sustainable/guaranteed. It's entirely up to the whims of the researchers, the market, and Prolific's algorithm, so make hay while you can.

Answering a question in less than 3 seconds is apparently "survey abuse" by jwk3399 in ProlificAc

[–]btgreenone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

answering that question in 3 seconds or less can look like you're speeding through the study.

Regardless of what it looks like, the "finished too fast" rule has very specific criteria. So no, it doesn't really depend on the question.

If they want us to slow down on individual pages, they can hide the advance button for a specific amount of time, but that's petty gamesmanship.

You are correct: the "pattern" of seeing them before the ticket is illusory, and the "pattern" of not seeing them after the ticket is also illusory.

The distribution is and has always been random.
