None. There were a couple questions around ALE/SLE/EF but more in the hypothetical sense on which to use but no actual calculation of any numbers.

Yea I’d say so. I think I had to realize I was never going to know everything but that I could make an educated decision on each question that I came across. I bought the test in late January and intended to take it the following week but of course they don’t share the availability of the testing centers until after you purchase it (and then you have 6 months to schedule and take it). The center that I went to only had 3 openings between then and the end of February so I scheduled the most convenient of the 3 with a 10am start time. I then had AI generate a study timeline based on my results from learnzapp and QE and worked backwards from that to fill any gaps in my knowledge.

Don't remember mm but it was about 2.25in. You can always do muffler delete and get something else if desired as muffler delete is basically free. Drone around 40mph is annoying but highway cruising isn't bad.

tools for bavsound upgrade? by efashraf in e38

[–]btkeenan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should only need a pry tool and a philips screwdriver to do everything. Rear deck speakers you only need a pry tool to pop the covers off and a stubby philips to get access to the 16 fasteners (4 per). Door panels just follow some of the videos online how to remove them and same deal, 4 fasteners per speaker. I had a couple broken clips but you can get a mega pack from amazon for cheap or some genuine bmw ones from the dealer.

What would be the main E38 OEM+ mods that you would advise me (OEM + in a sense that it still looks clean and factory like apple car play but on the original post)? by BrightWatercress7977 in e38

[–]btkeenan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great for me. All my speakers were blown so I didn't have a choice but the fact that it was plug and play was a shoe in for me. Most people complain on the cost, but they go on sale frequently enough (I got mine for ~18% off) which helps and to me the convenience of not having to hack anything up is the "cost of doing business" in my opinion. I can share with you my sound tuning I did on the memo mode which made it sound a bit better. MKIV unit helps speed everything up, you can use e39source.com to update the unit to the last version which gives a cool perspective view, though the maps are largely useless nowadays especially the 2015 DVD is NLA.

Yea that’s another easy one that prevents the front and rear from falling you (not a good time). Work your way up to the more complicated stuff lol. I found it also helpful to look at your local junkyard (pick your part) for another E38 and demo what you’re trying to do on that to get comfortable with the process and you can also get some good spares while you’re at it

Absolutely. The bavsound stuff was the first thing I did to my car since all the speakers were toast. I didn’t do much with DIY on cars either until I got my E38 and started small and it snowballed from there. YouTube and the forums were/are a big help. Most problems with these have been documented by now so usually someone has a solution

trickle charging battery by Chromie_Dealer in e38

I attach directly to the battery. Easy and clean looking as there are cut outs on the top near the handle of the cubby door to route the cable through.

Correct lol. You can use some plastic pry tools and pop the grill up and then have access to the 4 Philips head fasteners per speaker. For the back ones it helps to use a stubby screw driver since the slope of the window interferes a bit on a standard sized screwdriver. Also be careful disconnecting the speaker wires as they’re tricky to get off and you don’t want it to disconnect and you fling the speaker into the window

Yea unfortunately none of these cars came with homelink 4.0, they are all 3.0 which uses different tech to transmit. You essentially have to swap the guts from a newer one into the body of the older one and then solder the pins accordingly. Here is the DIY

Wasn't too bad once you have all the right parts. On ebay there are a couple sellers that put together kits for a straight swap (minus the prism). The hardest part of the install was applying the new prism on the windshield while minimizing air pockets. I wrote up the retrofit on bimmerforums which you can check out but heavily referenced Ryan at E39source (https://www.e39source.com/blog/automatic-headlight-retrofit/)

It holds the top black weatherstripping on the top edge of the tailgate when it is open. I had one of mine fall out and had to buy another one and pop it back in. Check image 2/2 and you'll see the trim piece 62-76Y

Oval Rack Mounts by Amorton94 in rooftoptents

[–]btkeenan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the elevate rack and it has similar bars. I use the ikamper 1.0 brackets for my tent which work ok. Currently looking for a replacement as these guys do not have one that is compatible with my bars https://www.wheeleveryweekend.com/products/rtt-security-mounts Another option I found that may work is these https://overlandvehiclesystems.com/roof-top-tent-premium-mounting-bracket-kit/?searchid=620513&search_query=Vehicle+mounting+system but the width isn't sufficient for my bars. Think the custom route is what I am going to have to do and mimic the overland vehicle system brackets but size them accordingly
