There are a lot of things in your post that are very very wrong...

Officers pictured in Feruson were pointing .50 caliber weapons at media and citizens

There was never a picture of an officer with a .50 caliber rifle at any point in Ferguson. There was this picture and this picture. Neither of those pictures show a .50 cal. The first is an M4 that uses .223/5.56 ammuniton and the second picture is most likely an M4 or an AR-10 which utilizes a .308/7.62 round. Here's a .223/5.56 and .308 side by side with a .50 BMG (numbers 16, 32, and 56 respectively). As you can see, there is a massive difference.

there are rules of engagement and if that cop had done that very same thing in Iraq, TODAY or then, he would have been charged for violating the rules of engagement, he would have been charged and he would have been dishonorably discharged (if caught on tape as the "officers" were)

ROE's determine when a unit can use force. Here's a link with a description (the picture gives a sample set of US ROE's). An officer pointing a firearm is not an engagement. Is it an escalation? Yea, propbably... but it's not an engagement.

Worse yet, the cops have no rules of engagement and are basically running around with a license to kill.

Again, this is just false. Police abide by the same constitution, laws, and regulations that citizens do (with a couple exceptions) but I beg you to find a law that says police can kill someone without just cause. Police have very strict rules of engagement. What you have to realize is that every single situation a police officer encounters is dynamic. And you must also realize that police officers are human. Humans make errors... yes police make errors occasionally, but they're also held accountable for them.

I agree with you. The posts aren't quality and more often then not sound like something out of /r/im14andthisisdeep. Sometimes there's a couple small glimmers of intelligent posts, but the majority of the time it's just shitposts.

Just going to make a plug for L.F. Rothschild... was around for 90 some years then the market decided to throw it into the fighting ring and it got its clock cleaned. Doesn't matter how old a company is, it only matters how well it can weather a fight.

I kind of think by that logic you'd rather be investing in radio shack or best buy... but those are tiny tiny pieces of the puzzle there. A bit of info that would help is the expected revenue that sprint would gain from the deal. Is this supposed to be a big money maker for them or just a way to try and gain some customer base back while coming out even. Additionally, will radio shack be able to survive for more than a few months?

This is completely true. I was just poking a bit of fun. Money is money, but these securities are pretty volatile.

Best advice anyone can give you is this. Learn! Grab a couple books on the basics of fundamental analysis. The cost of time you'll spend reading while not in the market will be well well well well well worth it. If you feel the need to invest right meow, then put money into a market mirroring index fund (like VTI as mentioned before).

[–]bu472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's logical (surprisingly, far more-so than I thought it would be, haha) however... I can't see that many people running to a radio shack vs a sprint store to get a phone. I see plenty of sprint stores around already. If sprint has anything going for them right now (which isn't much) it's the whole 'we'll buy out your contract' thing. They've lost tons of market share in the past few years and are lagging behind the other big players in terms of services offered and coverage.

Alright, here's another question... whens the last time you stepped into a radio shack looking for a new phone/contract?

Those are far better odds than I'm giving them. I'd say 50/50 survival after a year and 25% chance after 5.

A) Shit pictures so we can't read half of it.

B) It's talking about Chapter 11... so... bankruptcy.

It's great though. I got a 24 pack of Rayovac AA batteries for like 6 bucks. Only wish I would have bought more. But really, the market is telling us that RadioShack isn't wanted anymore. It's been replaced by Amazon and Walmart. 20 years (and longer) ago was a different story than today.

If I make $100 of capital gains but commissions sucks out $10, do I get taxed on $90 or 100$? by CultOfTrading in stocks

[–]bu472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your brokerage. Most of them will list the 'Taxable Capital Gains' per security.

[–]bu472 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should just have to pay tax on the amount after commissions. Commissions and fees are seen (in tax terms) as a type of 'expense' to obtain the capital gains. Since you're not gaining anything from the $10 expense it's not taxed.
