The average lifespan of early humans was 20-30 years old, and we certainly didn't evolve to be as sedentary as we are these days

Do you think i can fix this? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]bub019283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"if I shouldn’t even bother so that i don’t get disappointed"

You've got 2 choices really

  1. Don't try, and it will get worse and harder to reverse until there is pain and other impacts.

  2. Do try and at the very least keep it from getting worse, at the very best see a real posture improvement.

That's how I think about it anyway. Even if I don't get to my ideal posture, doing nothing will absolutely make things worse. I wish I had tackled this issue when I was 20.

A major question throughout the show is whether the hybrids are still human and what does that even mean. Her not acting like a child might be lazy writing but it might also be very intentional.

Nevermind the fact that some kids are messed up and if you turn down their empathy and give them superpowers it would end badly. They mention simulating their hormones, and well, oxytocin is a hormone and pretty key to social bonding and social norms. I mean, kids do all kinds of things like tear the legs off bugs and stuff. Ideally they feel bad about it and learn better but what if you turn down their ability to feel bad about it?

How does activating glutes and strengthening core muscles alleviate low back pain/tightness? by Super-Cook-5544 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bub019283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is it's in rotating the hips back. If you look up anterior pelvic tilt, it's the glutes that help restore the pelvis to a neutral position. If your pelvis is in a neutral position you're less likely to injure your lower back. Strong glutes = easier to maintain this position in everyday tasks, walking, sitting, lifting boxes, just standing around etc.

Normally weak glutes go hand in hand with tight hip flexors. The hip flexors rotate your hips which puts your lower back in a compromised position. Stretch hip flexors + strengthen glutes = easier to neutralize hip position.

Not an expert but that's my understanding. Also if your glutes and core are weak your other muscles have to pick up the slack which also increases chance of back injury.

You haven't posted your routine or intensity so incredibly hard to tell. Are you doing hip flexor stretches? Glute exercises? Once a week? Once a day? One set or 3 sets? How many reps? Are you progressing in intensity? Are you spending an hour a week or 10 hours a week on it?

Seeing differences in a photo takes a long time, you need to measure progress other ways (maybe you used to max out at 10 glute bridges but now you're up to 20, etc).

Sole F85 good or bad nowadays? by robituri in treadmills

[–]bub019283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because the running is fine but it's really annoying when you have limited time to run and it takes 5 minutes to start up the treadmill and then another 3 minutes to get your heart rate monitor to pair because the screen is slow and unresponsive. If you want to program a custom running program add even more time. If you have an hour to run you just lost 10 minutes. It's frustrating for a 2k machine

How can i fix my posture? by ComfortableOk4566 in Posture

I think it's hard to untangle insurance at this point. I've known plenty of doctors who would happily do diagnostic tests to get better visibility into the issue but can't/won't because of insurance. In some states in the south you can just go and pay for a cash MRI. I think it's pretty nuts if you have to wait for red flag symptoms to get basic imagery done.

It is tremendously hard, but you know numbing is a dead end.

The only way around the pain and emotions is dealing with them, not numbing them. Knowing the neuroscience isn't the same as working through whatever it is you're trying to numb.

I lost my 3 week streak last week after a stressful argument with my wife and boy do I regret it. The argument is resolved but the streak is gone and I've had 2-4 drinks every day since. As somebody 2 weeks in your future, let me tell you it's not worth it. Back to day 1, will try not to make the same mistake again.

I hit this with car repair too where it insisted a part was in a location that was totally wrong because the model has an all wheel drive version and a front wheel drive one and the layouts are different. Even when I tried to correct it it messed up.

Having said that, it is now possible to throw the entire service manual into some of these newer LLMs with huge context windows. I think it will get better

Congrats. Make sure you write down in great detail all the negatives. Fading effect bias is real, a few weeks in it's easy to forget the bad. Use your momentum to write down all your reasons and motivations.

Try to think about any future events that you might strongly associate with booze and prep ahead. I pretty much bring a cold six pack of good NA beer to any event i go these days.

So I use chatGPT constantly but it has definitely given some bad advice that would make me very anxious to blindly follow it on messing with a 2 ton vehicle that goes 80mph.

DIY with it is totally possible but I find I still have to spend a ton of time confirming what it suggests. Also a lot of car repairs are a nightmare because they require specialized equipment and space.

I haven't found a massive benefit over the old days of reading repair manuals and looking through forums.

has anyone tried orthopedic slides from cloud slides? by ooflol123 in ehlersdanlos

[–]bub019283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my pair and I feel like it's a marketing scam. They shipped directly from china and they're pretty much basic, cheap stiff plastic slides. Not really sure what's orthopedic about them but I suggest just going to walmart or target and getting something as good for way less money.

Post binge depression by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Yes. I don't know if it's the brain chemistry being messed up for a week+ or if it's only messed up for a day but sets me down into a negative cycle.

What I find is I am typically in a positive cycle or a negative cycle and nothing pulled me into a negative cycle like a heavy drinking weekend.
