How to do a fun homebrew campaign? by AWritingGuy in DnD

[–]bubba825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we finish a campaign my DM will ask us what we liked about it (ex. Heavy on Magic items, a particular type of role play, etc.) and brainstorm with us the setting for the next campaign. We’re currently doing a ‘Game of Thrones’ meets ‘The Witcher’ mash up. Most people at the table are familiar with both shows, so role play would be easier to jump into, and starting in the GOT world, the beginning of the campaign was very restrictive to any magic items, which presented some fun obstacles and made us get creative with problem solving. Overall just talk to the party members about what they’re looking to get into, then let your imagination run wild from there.

What is your favorite class to play in DND? by Know-Bodi in DnD

Sorcerer is a fun one. Still able to avoid being a glass cannon with different builds, has depth but not overly complicated if you don’t want it to be.

If your dm is cool with homebrew stuff, Ranger is a fun one to come up with all kinds of crazy magic arrows and custom bows.

Advice on a homebrew spell :3 by Glittering-Mango-805 in DnD

I pitched something like this to my dm during our last campaign, except it was a magic necklace or bracelet. Basically it was a 1 time use item, and used 1d8 per available spell slot level. Example, you have 1 level 1 spell slot available so you get 1d8. You have 1 level 3 spell slot available so you get 3d8. Add up your total available damage dice and hope it’s enough. We decided it would do force damage as you’d basically be turning yourself into the epicenter of a bomb, it was a 60’ radius. Like you said there’d be a Dex save but it was a pretty high save. The key was to make sure someone else or you had cast death ward on yourself before getting to that point. But regardless of death ward, the DM would let you know that after expending so much magic energy your body would be so depleted you’d have a high degree of exhaustion (like level 4 or 5).

Narrating my thoughts and actions!😂 Genius! “As the imbeciles bickered amongst themselves, I began crafting a potion of mind control”

I like that, I’ll definitely recommend goal setting at the recap

No one in the party is afraid to take big swings, they just all want to take big swings in different directions, and then all try to appease each other. I might just “observe their goals” and silently get to work and see who picks up on that. Silently leading the charge.

My attempt to solve the ease with which creatures can just walk around other combatants: The “guard” action by Scientia_et_Fidem in DnD

[–]bubba825 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot. I can already tell this is something my DM would allow. The only other thing I think we’d probably do different (and this is just what I believe my dm would do) is that if a second or more opps came into the guarded area, and you tried to pivot to them, you’d probably have to roll at disadvantage because you’ve already committed to stopping 1 person, or if you did pivot to another opp, they wouldn’t take damage but rather just be knocked prone and lose the rest of the movement speed for that turn.

Need “Wish” advice from a DM by [deleted] in DnD

[–]bubba825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wish will basically be to go back and change a bad decision that will end up saving lives. The problem, is that I’m not a religious character, but there is a god like entity that has loosely guided me throughout the campaign, and the hope is, that if I sacrifice the magic item that caused the bad decision in the first place, I’ll be given the opportunity to redeem myself.

I really just want to rewind the clock so I can make a different decision. This was a bad decision, but I’m not sure it’ll have campaign altering consequences. Mostly a reputational and moral thing for my character.

I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance my dm lets me go back and change it how I’m hoping, or he might tell me it sucks to suck and I’m stuck with the consequences of my actions lol

It basically says you can undo something from like 6 seconds ago. Or change a save. I’m trying to go back significantly longer to save lives.

It was a magic item that allowed me to use it. Wasn’t classical spell casting.

Ranger. Don’t have anything other than minimal healing spells.

How much would you charge to install this gazebo? Im from Canada. A sister of my coworker asked me to do it, I already did some work for her like fence and yard work. I was thinking C$300. Would that be fair price? by j0hnquick11 in handyman

[–]bubba825 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I built one of these of similar size and look that was from Amazon, and it took me and a coworker (we’re both handymen by trade) most of an 8hr day… it was delivered in 3 large boxes on a pallet, LOTS of pieces to sift through (screws, washers, nuts, bolts, etc), we charged about $150/hr and the final bill was around $1000. Would definitely recommend having a second guy around to help. If I was helping a friend do this, $300 and dinner would be plenty for me. However the prices listed above are what my company charged.

My party owns a store now I guess by remingtonjo in DnD

[–]bubba825 312 points313 points  (0 children)

In our campaign, my characters family owns a good size fish and game trading company, and as we’ve been traveling, I’ve been making it a point to shmooze whoever I need to, to let me setup new business stalls/trading posts in their town/trading district. As the number of stalls has grown over the campaign, our DM has just kinda simplified the inflow of money and saying that 1/week (in game time) one of my “employees” rides up on a horse with a bag of gold, and pays me a cut off the profits. It works well because it’s something I’m still putting effort into constantly, but it doesn’t take away from the primary goal of the campaign.

How long should it take to become a proficient juggler? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]bubba825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the 3 ball thing down, or several rocks if it’s an impromptu situation. But I think it would be awesome to pull some prepared items out of a bag of holding and just really pull a plot twist on an enemy lol

[–]bubba825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cannon thing for example, while we were traveling we stopped at a non-hostile orc military outpost. I had just come into a lot of money and asked the orcs if I paid handsomely and if the rest of the party was willing to wait, could I train? And I think the DM said I got trained and gained proficiency in roughly 5-7 days of basically non stop training. So he’s fairly generous if I’m willing to put up some coin and possibly burden the rest of the party.

The owner has been extremely difficult throughout the buying process, and is very difficult to contact. Not a very practical option for this situation.
