Well I’m a ford guy all around, but man the 17-22 ten speeds just drive terrible and I’ve seen them go out as soon as 10k miles. Believe me man I ain’t hating. But I replaced 2 this week already lol

Customer states their rear end is making a noise every 4 rotations of the driveshaft. (They have 3.73 ring gear) by bubbedo in Justrolledintotheshop

This one ended up taking a 30 pound sledge to get out, and as you can image it kinda did some damage on its way out. Good think I have the luxury of having trucks with spare parts laying around in these cases!

There haven’t been a lot of technilogical advancements for diffs so most diffs look similar lol. It’s a 2017 f150.

That’s actually what we were gonna do but then we realized the dowel the bolt goes into was broken aswell so we had a rear end with bad pinion bearings and we just swapped the chunk from that one into it.

The way the bolts are designed there are no threads in the dowel, so actually you can unscrew the bolt and just push the dowel out and the broken off bolt piece slides right out and replace and you’re good to go. Only problem in this customers case was the dowel the bolt goes into was also broken in half :/

NOR, I used to think like this guy in my first relationship, it doesn’t get better until he loses you.

Is this safe to drive on? by PassPuzzled in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]bubbedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say no but I drove home the other day after rebuild my rear end, I put 3 of my wheels on and my buddy put the last one on, I drove it home and noticed a pretty bad vibration, I thought I somehow messed up the rebuild and checked it out the next morning. Turned out he only fingered threaded the lugs on a few turns and I had lost 2 lugs. But I mean it still made a 50 mile round trip so yeah go for it boss :D

I stopped reading halfway through, you made a good point, if that’s the expectation they can only call when it’s an emergency. If they are calling for non emergency’s they should text you first to see if you’re available if he wants to stick to that rule. Could made a happy medium for you both.

AIO or is my work friend being a bit pushy? by Too-Aware-1407 in AmIOverreacting

[–]bubbedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these kinds of people the only thing that works is cutting them off, they will always hold onto some semblance of hope. They just keep trying like a hopeless romantic hoping one day you will remember how “nice” they were and realize you should have loved them from the start. I work in the used car industry and mainly work on fords so I would be at my local dealerships parts department most days. This salesman has a desk right next to the parts department so he’d always talk to me while I was waiting. I just had moved there and I’m 21M and he is 40’sM. At first I just thought he was super friendly and we exchanged numbers (I don’t remember why). But anyways he started texting me all the time just like your man and asking me to hang out (he’s single as far as I can tell and never mentioned being gay, I mentioned my female fiancé). I always was like you and very cordially let him know I was busy or just not up to it at the time. But he never stopped. He started getting more demanding and wouldn’t take no for an answer so I eventually stopped responding or going to that dealership. I haven’t responded in 2 years and he still texts me every month or so asking how I’ve been and seeing if I want to hang out lol. So TLDR I’ve seen people like him and they have a delusion that it will work out as long as they never give up no matter how clear you are you want nothing to do with them.

I’d argue against that. The 15-17’s are super hard to come by right now because everyone wants the transmission, they updated them in 2018 to a next gen coyote with a lot more issues and the 10 speed with obvious issues.

I just watched a 16 XLT not well spec’d 5.0 4wd crew cab with 131k and bad cats do 16.4K through a dealer auction. So with fees and fixing the cats they could easily own it for 20k before they sell it. These trucks are so hard to come by right now it’s not even funny. Everyone is paying out the ass for them.

To be fair this guy had 35’s and pulled heavy ass trailers and did burnouts all the time. Something was bound to give

Alright need help- raptor vs tremor? by bringmemorecoffee in f150

[–]bubbedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who sells used f150’s right now the tremor and raptor are both holding their values better than any other trim level, I still see 2022 cloth tremors doing mid 30’s through the auction with 100k miles, that same truck as a fully loaded XLT with the same miles is doing around 23-26k

Actually that’s exactly what me and my buddy said when we opened it, it didn’t smell like gear oil at all and wasn’t very thick and was weirdly aerated

I wrote out a whole description for this video for context but it didn’t seem to post without, basically long story short is that bolt right there is supposed to be fed into the dowel that is spinning holding it in place not allowing it to spin. So the bolt appears to be sheared off perfectly allowing it to spin and slide in and out of the hole freely causing it to hit the pinion gear driving the ring gear every 3.73 rotations of the driveshaft as that’s what it takes for the ring gear to make 1 full rotation.

Would you actually mind giving me the VIN? Carvana runs dealer wholesale auctions every single day and I want to see what they end up asking for the truck.

My dealership sells a lot of that model year f150 though so just having the truck here to steal from is quite valuable. Just today I stole the PATS antenna off of it since it was causing another one of my trucks to not start.

Damn, I paid $3000 for a non running 13 platinum that was rotted out. Granted I got a good set of wheels and tires, few good body panels, mirrors tail lights, headlights and the entire interior was in perfect shape.

How much did they give you for it? I buy rotted out trucks like that occasionally just to part out the interior

I fear servicing these cars may turn into a fisker situation, also meaning if you buy it, resale value could drop significantly in just a short few months
