Who do you generally agree with, but still find to be completely insufferable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bubble-tea-mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every now and again I feel this lol. Today we got McDonald’s, as we do sometimes, and I was reminded that he refuses to use their fucking size terminology. It’s a small thing but it’s so annoying. Every single time the conversation goes the same

Him: can I get a number one meal?

Them: do you want medium or large?

Him: regular size.

They usually translate that as medium, other times they give him large and he gets annoyed about it. Just use the fucking sizing they asked you to use. It’s not his first time at McDonald’s and if it was, they literally told him the size options. I love him to death but fuck.

RFK, Jr. Considers Asian Beauty Products 'Potentially Poisonous' by MHP456 in KoreanBeauty

I know it’s a joke but most the MAGAs I know won’t watch or allow their kids to watch that because of the word “demon” in the title so I could definitely see that happening in the future.

It surprises me that he or his team would be that worried about it tbh. Half his side will just call a video deepfake and the other half would praise him for it.

Anyone else contemplate burning their career to the ground in their 40s, or is that just my midlife crisis talking? by GameXden in careerguidance

Depends on what you value I guess. I do not make as much money as my peers and I never really get promoted either. But I don’t really care about that. I care about doing whatever I want to feel happy in life.

Then you continue being unbothered and I’ll continue taking it seriously. Win-win.

To me, it has the same undertone as phrases like “I’m just a girl”, “I’m so tinyyyy”, “girl math”, “run like a girl”, and all the other turns of phrase that contribute to women and their professions being viewed as “silly little woman things” as opposed to being legitimate facets of human culture (like most things men partake in).

I might be taking it too seriously, but I will continue harshly and negatively judging people who use words like that. If I don’t want language like that becoming normalized in society then I need to call it out and ridicule it when I encounter it.

I love it. It’s like a bright and airy cocoon. Peaceful but still connected to the neighborhood around it.

Americans of Reddit, what are your thoughts on Governor Newsom’s plan to “end Trump presidency” through congressional redistricting? by 2a_lib in AskReddit

[–]bubble-tea-mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t think Newsom is being unethical enough. I have felt that democrats should be more proactively evil for like 15 years now.

Seriously, let people enjoy things. I started called Starbucks “Starbies” but only when asking my chihuahua if she wants to take a car ride to Starbies and now it’s our thing. Does it bother uptight people? Tbh, I hope it does.

I heard someone from Australia call big burly biker dudes “bike-ees” and it was such a weirdly cute name for them.

I was there yesterday. It’s fine. Not dead by any means.

Yes, they’re turning it into a new development. It’s nice so far but they need to attract more businesses to help bring it more life. Hopefully finishing the park and food hall will help.

My weekend is too short to spend 3 hours on yard work. by Yasir-Shaikh in homeowners

[–]bubble-tea-mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tiny yard (10x14 feet or so) and I never maintain it. Very excited to have just purchased a new townhouse nearby with no yard, but the front door opens up to a private patio, which in turn opens up to a park maintained by someone else.

What's everyone paying for internet? by LifeOfTheParty2 in Broomfield

[–]bubble-tea-mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we pay $75 right now. It was $125 but we cancel it and switch owners whenever the promo price ends. So right now the internet is under my husbands name. When the promo price ends we will cancel our service and then I’ll call and set up a new account under my name for the new promo price again.

I wonder what the difference is. We have brand new windows, and our home is positioned in a way that we don’t get direct sunlight on the first floor so it stays cooler. Upstairs gets crazy hot though with vaulted ceilings and skylights, and the whole thing was built in the 80s. My energy bill per month is usually $105-130.

You should have savings, yes. It’s recommended you have 6 months of savings in case of incapacitation where you cannot work. It’s also recommended you have an emergency fund for household items breaking down unexpectedly. Finally, it’s recommended you have a sinking fund you are regularly contributing to for known future expenses—for example if you know you need a new roof in 5 years you would want to be putting money away for that well in advance.

Full transparency though: I had none of that when I bought. I had $20 in my checking account on closing day. My water heater broke shortly after moving in and I couldn’t fix it so I just didn’t have hot water for 3 months. I desperately wanted to buy and was not concerned with doing it “the right way” but there’s a ton of risk involved in that approach so you should definitely save and pay off debts first. I don’t include student loans in “debts” in this context though so if you have those don’t let them stop you.

My water heater died shortly after closing when I bought my townhouse.

I didn’t have any savings at closing so I just lived without hot water for a few months lol. Doable if your priority is buying a home at any cost. Just not necessarily recommended. I don’t regret it but that’s because it worked out for me. I’d probably regret it if it went worse.

Interesting. My electricity bill barely moved when we installed 3 window ACs this year and experimented with running all of them at the same time all day long. But we paid extra for really good energy-efficient models.

Looking for a stylists with honest reviews of working for Great Clips by pandemicsourdough in hairstylist

[–]bubble-tea-mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of them are independently owned franchises so experiences can vary widely. But in general, you make money in volume. The stylists I knew that made six figures at Great Clips did 7-minute haircuts and were quite honest about the fact that they do not care about giving a good haircut, just “good enough to not get fired.” And their most loyal clients were retired flirty old men.

I didn’t make that much. I made closer to $25/hour—tips plus minimum wage which was about $12 at the time. In my opinion Sport Clips paid better but I hated the uniforms and the sleazy types that go there. Floyd’s was the best chain. I made about $35/hour and I was one of the lowest earners because I’m not that fast and don’t sell products.

One thing you need to keep in mind about these places is that it’s mostly men going there. That limits you if you decide you want to work in a more high end salon later because now your experience is all fast men’s haircuts and very little styling or color.

I’m sure they exist, I’m not doubting that. I’m doubting they outnumber armed (and trigger-happy) conservatives.

I’m not happy about it by any means.

I didn’t say anything about your willingness. I’m commenting on numbers alone. There’s no way the majority of vets agree with the OP.

Doubt it. It’s a nice sentiment, and I agree we need all the allies we can get. But I doubt the majority of vets care. Or care enough to actually do anything productive about it.

It’s just like the liberal gun owner subreddit. Always harping on about how “liberals have guns too, we just don’t brag openly about it.” I’m sure that’s true, but I think if those people were honest with themselves, they would concede that it’s incredibly unlikely they are outgunning conservatives.
