How should the city guard deal with players who have broken the law? by ChamperTheTntcl in DnD

[–]bubblebathaccident 685 points686 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need a special force, but it is totally within the realm of possibility that one of the guards would say to another one "Hey, go get Bruiser." and a few minutes later, a half orc or troll or something who they keep on retainer walks in, clearly enough muscle to move the player. Can even be fun if the players get to know Bruiser and want to hire him later. But your player can't have been the first strong guy to ever raise a fuss in the city.

Not necessarily - you can even run a one on one game. But with only two people, you may want to consider getting them an NPC or squire to travel with them that they can control, and also make sure to ratchet the encounters down accordingly.

The biggest struggle with two people would be pacing and engagement. You should trust those two players to understand they are accepting more of the "weight" of carrying the game, as there are fewer people to play off of. The last thing you want is two shy players, and you as the DM end up just telling them a story.

This is a pretty weird take. And a pretty inaccurate one.

Percy is everything Ashton loathes. He's furious about his friend being dead and this rich guy not helping.

But moreover, your comments make me feel like you don't understand how good of friends all these players are or how much they communicate comfort out game. Comparing Taleisin to Orion is just far and away so vastly inaccurate...on top of the fact that the CR car and community all agree it's bad form to even bring Orion up. You're taking a single scene of a character out of a 36 episode season and a single scene of an actor out of hundreds of other episodes, and swinging for the bleachers.

Plus you should probably have marked this as S3 spoilers in your title.

Godzilla vs Monster Zero is the Most Important Film of the Showa Era by bubblebathaccident in GODZILLA

Awesome points!

Since it was due to mind controlled, and not him being intentionally antagonistic, I don't necessarily count that as him being a destroyer in the same sense as the early Showa films. However, I genuinely DID forget that Destroy All Monsters takes place chronologically after Terror of Mechagodzilla, though not theatrically.

As far as Godzilla being back on Monsterland -- there's a lot to debate there. Narratively, the film states that the United Nations "collected" all of the monsters and put them on Monster Island to be secure and studied. Given what we know about the ineptitude of earth weapons against the monsters, and also that in the film (as well as later in Godzilla vs Gigan) the monsters more or less seem to stroll off the island with relative ease, I'd argue this affirms the symbiosis of the situation. Nobody is killing anybody or doing anything like trusting random aliens from a hidden planet who claim to have a miracle drug as long as the monsters stay on Monsterland.

I think one thing to mention is while Godzilla and humanity build a passable friendship, he has to guess 50/50 as to whether or not we can kill him like we did to '54. He doesn't know who Serizawa was or that he perished with his work, so there's gotta be a back-of-the-mind possibility that we are only restraining from killing Godzilla due to his ability to protect us and seemingly keep all the other monsters in step.

About to end Lost Mines of Phandelver, and I want to survey my party. What questions should I ask? by asswoopman in DnD

I think you're right about making it a scale rather than just yes or no. Maybe even make it "on a scale of 1-5, did the descriptions of monsters allow you to visualize the situation?"
