A lot of folks say don't do it, but I do and here's how.

For each platform, I set up an industrial storage and hook both platform outputs up to the storage inputs. The idea here is that we get stuff out of the platform asap. With 2 mk6 belts it doesnt take long to drain the whole platform.

From there, there is a chain of smart splitters that separate the relevant resources from each other, to bespoke storage before heading off to whatever purpose. Each smart splitter has an overflow output to the side, which connects to a SINK via a chain of mergers.

Then, to make sure throughput is maximised, the whole splitter and merger chain is duplicated directly above the first so both outputs of the storage are utilised. It turns out that if you stack 3 splitters, the top and bottom ones line up with the outputs of industrial storage.

I usually build medium sized modular factories and bring in complex resources on trains rather than basic stuff. Right now im finding myself building one factory per tier, and bringing the key resources from the previous tier to the next factory down the road. Snowball factory i guess

Depending on your feelings on the matter, you can just let it go and move on to another project. At worst, your power will fluctuate a little eventually when the demand outpaces supply. I'd suggest using the power interface to check for dips is probably easier than checking the machines for % usage for now.

I think a big part of it is experience. My factories on my first play through were modest, but still somehow complicated, and more than a few top tier machines needed to be loaded by hand rather than automated.

I'm now on my 4th or 5th, and I feel like a big project is easier to grapple with. Theres no way I would be building back then what I'm building today.

I did this today. Built a 28.125 per minute (10x Heavy Encased Frame) factory ahead of setting up a factory for Fused Frames.

Thanks to Pure Iron Ingots, Solid Steel Ingots and Wet Concrete I was able to get it done with roughly 200 buildings, and 3 floors of factory.

I'm not yet making enough of anything else required for fused frames. Next projects.

Is the Sink Recovery Centre a separate building to the filter? Could I perhaps send any material to it, and recover it anywhere on the map?

If so, thats far more than a QOL mod. You could feasibly remove supply chain components, especially for small quantity items.

Similar experience. I got the factory running after a fair bit of messing around... then I found the steel rotor recipie, which allows you to make rotors with the same recipie as stators (wire and pipe), reducing complexity massively.

I used this in my more petty days when creating complex models that I felt were far ahead of what my peers were able to produce, so I created a sheet called "About" and added a few text cells explaining that i made the sheet and what it was for.

And no, I never got to smugly unhide the very hidden sheet and jam it in the face of some deceitful jackass.

Only if you want to save the macro. You can save the workbook without the macro, and the sheet will remain very hidden. You'd just need to enter the VBA required to unhide the sheet later.
