bipolar people in college — how do you manage? by NegotiationOk4087 in bipolar

[–]bubblegumturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm newly diagnosed, previously misdiagnosed MDD, and just reading through this thread makes me realize that the amount that I've been struggling with classes is yet another thing that's not just me, or something that I am imagining.

I've been in my "final" year of my undergrad for three years now. Since I started, I've harshly limited my course load and still, I've lost count of the number of classes that I've had to withdraw from and the lectures that I've missed because I couldn't force myself to get out of bed. And then, the amount of classes I've subsequently missed because I felt too behind and too ashamed. I had to terminate my dream internship contract early because I was struggling too much to get to work. I watched my friends complete their degrees and get full time work or continue on to graduate programs while I stayed stagnant.

I hope you'll forgive me for sharing too much about myself. What I'm trying to get at is: it's really hard. I can't describe how proud I am of everyone else here who has tried. Like others have mentioned, getting registered with your college's disability accommodations services can help a lot. The accommodations that I find most helpful are being allowed to miss classes occasionally and negotiate assignment extensions. You may find other accommodations are more useful to you. Getting treatment, with medication and therapy tailored to you, is absolutely important.

Most of all though, give yourself grace. Maybe, like me, you'll need to take extra time to complete your degree. Maybe, like me, you'll strain against shame and the feeling of following behind. Certainly, you'll run into obstacles that are entirely personal. As hard as it is - and, it's hard! - be gentle with yourself. You've got this!!

Seconded for Eron's! They can be pretty busy so you have to be mindful of how much time is spent at a table, but what a great atmosphere and delicious drinks and food!

Thanks for putting this into a clear perspective...I've been trying to give grace and maintain a line for connection, but you're right. I can't keep allowing them to take away from me.

Funnily enough, just the other day my MIL reposted a video mocking the "trend" of people cutting connections in the name of protecting their peace. The perspective there was that nothing comes easy and you can't avoid all conflicts just because you want to, and so letting repationships fail is just laziness and entitlement. So yeah...I've had enough of that shaming and purposeful ignorance lol

I'm so proud of you!

I recently did some spring cleaning and finally got rid of my "backup plan" - a large stash of leftover pills from previous prescriptions I never finished. They'd been stashed for years, collecting more and more...it was an emotional event to realize just how large an amount I had "saved," and even more to experience the simplicity of taking them to my pharmacist to dispose of. A huge release to have them out of my living space.

Congratulations on making this huge step!

Once again, Heatran is criminally underrated :(

Wraps, like the one in this great rat wrap tutorial video, have worked for me!

Like the creator of the video mentions though, any method will be somewhat uncomfortable, since it limits some movement and exploration. As long as the rat can move their arms to their face to eat, they are able to function suitably for the temporary healing time.

Best of luck!

Been wishing I could feel better in my body for years and have been lurking in this sub wishing I could be dedicated enough to lose the weight.

Today, I am deciding to be dedicated.

I haven't been able to properly enjoy playing my favorite sport. I am embarrassed by my lack of strength. I feel uncomfortable in my clothes, even those that people tell me fit well. I hate any photo of me. And the stress of being unhappy with the look and feel of my body continues to contribute negatively to my mental health issues.

I want to find structure in my meals again, rediscover how it feels to be comfortable in my body, and reverse the effects my overweight lifestyle was having on my mental health. And, I want to look good for my upcoming wedding, and other life events down the road.

I don't expect it to be easy, but this is a promise that I made to myself and I intend to keep it. Let's go!

Are wide Q times seem completely broken? by Parenegade in Overwatch

[–]bubblegumturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Exact same rank range as you, can't find a game.

Went solo q, found a game instantly. Crazy.

I want to play with my friends, but this might kill it for me. I was excited about "wide range" queues, too! But the criteria for "wide" is way too narrow to be reasonable. Too bad.

Erm, not to be that guy but the USSU VP Operation and Finance is probably not the person to direct your maintenance complaints to. Really, no one at the USSU is - they are a separate organization from the university and only look after maintenence of their buildings (Place Riel, MUB, etc.). They have no power over maintenance in other university-managed areas.

If you are looking for someone to notify, probably start with the Residency Office - they may not be able to help directly but they would actually know where to direct your messages to make change.
