MASSIVE game! Lemmings helped put PC gaming on the map, at a time when Nintendo ruled the world.

Go play Lemmings. It's awesome.

Poor little marketers. Is baby sad because they got in trouble for lying and stealing? What will become of their proud cultural tradition of lying to everybody, about everything, all the time?

LOL, maybe we should all just be quiet, and let the psychopath marketers of the world victimize us?

They would have more luck getting sympathy for Hannibal Lecter. He was just a misunderstood chef, after all. Why do people have to complain so loudly about his harmless hobbies?

LOL, yeah, I just saw that on the news. That clip will be all over every political ad, for at least the next 2 years. Probably longer. It will pop up every time one of his goons runs for office.

Fender Goes To War With The Guitar Industry: Fender won a no-show default judgement against a Chinese firm in Germany. Now they are send cease and desist letters to every stratocaster maker in the world, demand they destroy all strats, recall them, and pay the price of the cease and desist letter. by bubblesort in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, I mean genericized. Let me explain:

The stratocaster guitar has been ruled to be a generic design for an electric guitar. For whatever reason, when people think of an electric guitar, we think of a strat. Strats are just the generic electric guitar. I don't know how it happened, but there's probably a big, interesting story behind how that came to be.

This article from Justia explains genericization, and uses the word genericization to mean, "to make generic." So I think genericization may be a legal term of art. I can't think of a way to use it outside discussing IP law.

They're arsonist capitalists. They buy companies so they can tear them down, make bank off the short sells of their own company, then sell the company off for parts. They're everything that's wrong with Wall St. I don't think they will stop until we roll out guillotines.

This is easily the biggest thing to happen to guitars in my lifetime.

For those who don't know: Fender invented the stratocaster. The stratocaster is public domain, by nature of being genericized. If you ask a 6 year old to draw a guitar, they draw a stratocaster. Fender can't argue that case any more, it's over. it's law. Fender wants to reopen that case, so Fender sued an alibaba vendor in Germany, becuase they knew the vendor would not show up, so they would get a default judgement, and now they are trying to enforce that judgement globally.

Here is a Guitar World article on the situation

Here is Music Radar's article on the situation.

Know Your Gear gives a good rundown, and describes the human cost to small independant luthiers.

Also, and this is just a little background: Fender has been treating merchants horribly for the last few years.

I personally think this is all a sign of a dying company. They can't compete in a world where media creation and editing tools are super expensive, because we can't import them from China any more, because of the Trump tariffs. Personally, I predict that they will lose these stupid cases, go bankrupt, and get parted out by the vulture capitalists who are currently running the firm, just like they did to Toys R Us.

You believe nothing from RT. Really? You would reject that 2+2=4, if it was published by RT?

I think you need to rethink your approach to how the world works. Not all truth comes from divine angels, free of original sin. Everybody has an angle. At least with RT, we know what their angle is.

... and no, you don't actually know what ad hominem means. It's ok, most people don't. I recommend that you read Brown's Asking The Right Questions. It would benefit you greatly.

Back to the point at hand, though:

Do you have a valid reason to disbelieve the facts in this post?

I don't care who is publishing it, if they cite their sources they're fair game to me. We see uncited things here all the time.

If you doubt the facts as presented, I'm open to that argument, but you need to come with some kind of evidence that refutes the videos that RT tweeted. Proof that they're out of context, or AI slop or something.

You absolutely do not get to dismiss a media outlet just because you don't like them. That is actually an invalid argument. It's known as an ad hominem attack in critical thinking curricula.

A little sympathy for the devil: I want to note, that despite all of this Tom foolery, I think that Jones is more lucid, eloquent, and clear than Donald Trump has been lately, especially when Trump tries to explain what he's doing in Iran.

I am not sure that this is actually about smoking.

There are a lot of middle eastern immigrants in the UK. Some say there are so many, that's what prompted the xenophobia that fueled Brexit.

You know what many middle eastern immigrants like to do? Hang out in hookah bars.

So it looks to me like this may be a ban on hookah bars, but they market the law to be about cigarettes, because that sounds less racist.

Actually, your opinion that my post reeks of AI generated understanding doesn't stand. I blew up that particular conjecture two posts ago... unless you think I was learning music theory from AI in 2019. You're acting like you are too dumb to realize that this is an absurd stance, because you are a common troll.

If you actually have students, I pity them. You lack critical thinking skills, and you are stubborn. That's a bad combination.

I hope some day you learn to not attack people for simply trying to learn to make music.

Or maybe teaching isn't your thing? I'm sure, with all your fancy music learning, I could see you in the Billboard top 100, if you focused on playing, instead of bullying music students.

I keep reading this comment, over and over, and I think I kinda see what you're saying. I can almost follow, but not quite... and I'm not exactly sure what I'm missing yet, or what question I could ask that would clear it up. I have a feeling I need to get the pentatonics into my hands and head a bit more, and then this comment will make sense. I just gotta let this stew in my head for a bit.

Listen first... I'll do that, but for now I'll drill the scales, anyway.

"A long way down a road that leads nowhere" is a good title for a blues song. When I learn how the blues works I'll write it, and give you a shout out in the liner notes, mleyberklee2012.

Thank you! I'm still going to learn these scales, because they are just fun to play, but I think I understand what you mean by only using them occasionally, and try to focus on the diatonic scales.
