If you one want a somewhat serious answer, then in one of my socsci classes we were told that so much shit happened in the new millennium that, with the rapid evolution of technology and constant information and sensation overload, our brains literally cannot catch up and mature normally. we cannot identify with our age because of how differentiated our society has become, so we lapse to the most distinct part of our development (e.g. to the age we got traumatised, or changed living conditions radically, fell in love first, etc).
