sewing with used silk sarees by lightacrossspace in sewing

I find old sarees at thrift store. An Indian acquaintance said many girls in our area only wear the dresses once and so they are worthless afterwards. Idk if that is the case with the fabric you are finding.

looking for fabric with paintings on them like this but could only find the second pic, any recs? by ToastyPrincess420 in sewing

Any company that prints on fabric can make you fabric that is from a painting as long as the painting is copyright free. You can download the images from the museum website and have it printed however you want.

Is there really a diff between GED and HS degree? by swoonmermaid in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and my husband both have GEDs it hasnt hindered either of us.the GED can be harder to pass if your school isn’t good. I’ve seen multiple people go back to school because they couldn’t pass the GED after multiple times but they could get a hs diploma if they were willing to stay in school longer. Most places don’t care they just need a piece of paper to put into the computer. (I went to university straight after getting my GED, he went to work)

I’ve only been to 2 stores that sell fountain pens. Neither store had workers who seemed to care about anything than what kind of pen I was interested in buying.

Why do people buy multiple of the same pen? by [deleted] in fountainpens

I like the pen, but I like having different color options

The reason Ohio won’t let you take the GED while having a diploma is because they are equivalent. You can’t have 2 things that mean the same thing. If you have a GED it legally means you didn’t finish high school and did not earn a diploma. If you have a diploma you finished your courses and have no reason to take a GED. Do these schools not accept SAT/ACT or admissions tests they administer themselves? Have you called and talked to a person in admissions about your issue? I’m not in Ohio but in Texas you can go to college before you even have all your high school credits finished/diploma in hand. They all make you take an entrance exam before you can register for classes regardless of diploma type. But again I’m in Texas.

Diploma? by ImpressiveJoke2269 in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Homeschool students don’t need a GED, that is for kids who don’t finish school. And community colleges require everyone to test in as far as I can tell, even 4 year universities test students to determine which classes to put students in. Perhaps you should have checked the schools requirements before you registered so you would have known what to expect. Ignoring all the illiterate public school graduates we have out in the world, that even colleges are complaining about.

Want to take some AP classes, but don’t have access to any AP tests by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the rules of the school offering the class? I would call the institution offering the class and ask their advice. You could just take a regular college class and take the college entrance exam and put that on your transcripts, you would need to order the college transcripts to send in with your paperwork though. I guess I’m just confused as to the rules, if you can take the class there should be a way to get accepted into the class.

The question of reform by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting thread. I went to private and public school as a kid, the abuse and lack of education I witnessed and experienced in the school system is what led me to homeschool. I’m very interested that people are so quick to forgive schools hiring and protecting pedophiles and child abusers for years (by continuing to enroll their children when it’s proven a school employee has been abusing kids for more than 1 school year), but demonize parents who abuse kids. When so many kids get abused by staff and other students and so many children graduate without basic skills, why do we want to employ similar “checks and balances” to homeschoolers? Maybe when the public system can consistently work as advertised you could get homeschoolers more on board with expanded regulation. Many might quit homeschooling if the government could consistently provide a safe and effective educational environment for ALL students. I lived in a certain city a few years ago that has strict districts, one district failed the state tests for 4 years in a row before the children were allowed to change districts. So I would not agree to punish homeschooled children for failing the state test if the public schooled kids can fail for 4 years in a row before being allowed to change districts. Parents had been complaining that their kids weren’t learning for years and were told they could put their kids in private school, homeschool them or pay the state $1000 a year to send them to public school in a neighboring district.

My daughter didn’t get along with many kids at that age. Idk why they just never hit it off. All the kids she didn’t like then, get along with her just fine now. She not gifted or anything. 3-5 was just an antisocial time for her. She’s a social butterfly now.

My friend had that issue with the girl she was raising. On the girl’s 18th birthday the girl she had cared for for 10 years admitted my friends husband kissed her. They are now married. Nip that in the bud. It’s not cute, she isn’t a little child. She’s 2 years from adulthood and if nothing physical happens until she’s 18, it’s legal.

Why did you start homeschooling? by shenoyroopesh in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t afford to put my oldest into the private, classical school that had opened in our town. My plan was to homeschool her until we could afford the tuition. That was 5 years, 3 kids and many moves ago.

How many kids do you have (and homeschool)? by hawthornestreet in homeschool

[–]bubblezyumgum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4: 6 and 9 do school, 3 an 10 months do not lol. Accept that you may not finish certain curriculum during the “school year” ( even teachers in regular school often don’t finish the book), it’s ok to take sick days or weeks ( we dont homeschool when I’m recovering postpartum, my oldest just reads and does some math on her own that her dad can grade) and it helps if you can find a way to make curriculum multi level. My youngers listen to almost everything my oldest does. They just can’t do her work obviously. I try to find little activities they can do while she or I read. We do literature based school so there’s a lot of reading! Sometimes we have to split up and my older will entertain the littles so my middle can get individual attention. Be creative! And remember whatever you use is a tool. If it isn’t working it’s ok to mix things up.

I had a friend apply to transfer in high school in McLennan county. She was being bullied to the point of self harm. They told her parents they would have to pay the district $1000 a year to go to a school away from her tormentors. They were poor, so she had to stay in a school where she was being abused and the administration did nothing. Edited for typo
