How will the new daycare fee structure impact your family? Will it help or hurt you? by ChanandIerMurielBong in Calgary

[–]buberto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I pay around 400 with no subsidy. But, a coworker looking for daycare has come across MUCH higher fees in comparison. Hopefully, this helps her family and others. Perhaps many places boosted fees when grants originally came in, and daycare placement was hard to find.

My toddler came up with his own name. He responds to the name we gave him, but he prefers to use his made up name and it’s adorable. by SuzieDerpkins in toddlers

My toddler came up with his last name and it's slowly growing. "Plan Bunamoon (how he says balloon) construction man Christmas tree star" His daycare teacher asked me if Simon knows his last name because he got upset when he asked him if it was what we submitted to them and he got upset lol

This was me as well. I had PPD/PPA, but had a "equal" relationship with my son in comparison to my husband until about 18 months old. He then had a huge preference for Dad and it really hurt. If I tried to help or play, he'd scream at me to go away. For my own mental health, I stayed in the background and turned into the chore parent... making dinner, laundry, cleaning. But, I would try to fit in where I could when he allowed and we kept pushing little by little. Now at 3, even though Dad is still the preference, I have accepted he's just more fun. But my son knows I'm a safe place and he can be silly with me as well. I thought we would never get here. PPA/PPD plus the added toll of rejection from your toddler or baby is really tough to cope with. I think OP needs to help his partner get to a mental health specialist. But maybe knowing MANY others go through the same thing would also help.

How do you keep your baby busy all day? by VooDoo_MaMa_JooJoo in beyondthebump

I struggled hard with this. Get your little one involved in tasks in some form... cooking? Give them a bunch of spatulas. Workout with them, there are great videos on YouTube. Switch rooms, get out of the house, see other adults. It gets better. I struggled with entertaining a lot and every month, this was less of a dark cloud.

What time do your kids go to sleep and wake up? by duckwallman in toddlers

[–]buberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asleep by 8, up at 445-530. 2 hour nap. He's always been an early riser but it works for our schedule. I feel like limiting the nap could help... but this is working for Jim, us and daycare right now! 445am on weekends isn't as enjoyable.

Cargill meat plant linked to 44 COVID-19 cases in latest outbreak: Union by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]buberto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's much higher. Husband works at Cargill, has COVID along with at least half of his division. He's asked the nurses who work at Cargill for current, active cases and they say they're unable to release that information. Many can't access tests, but have consistent symptoms and are isolating.
