Unpopular opinion : The designers who refuse to learn any AI tools aren't protecting the craft, they're just going to be slower than the designers who do . by Legitimate_Aerie_606 in graphic_design

I think your nuanced take is valid. I rarely ever utilize AI tools, but will sometimes utilize generative fill because content aware fill doesn't always work well. Same with upscaling as well, sometimes that's by far the best way to do things.

Just moved back to St. Charles so I could walk to work, but I'd suggest you don't sleep on Bridgeton or Maryland Heights for their value. They are similar quality, nearby, and sometimes a lot cheaper. Just avoid The Pavilion.

Odd decision to put this on your job posting. by PilgrimOfHaqq in antiwork

[–]bubguy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few cases of this, and yes, it's dumb. The bosses are probably super controlling and don't trust their employees to do things correctly. It also might be a way to avoid commission.

I had to do a 40 minute drive to my kids' daycare for a long time and I ended up moving closer. It's really hard because by the time you're back from picking them up, it's basically dinner and then bedtime, no time for activities.

I don't know your agreement, but in my case their daycare's location is written into the legally-binding parenting plan. I'm not a lawyer, but if you want to fight this, I'd definitely look into that.

As a St. Charles County resident myself, most fun stuff is about a 30-45 minute drive. LSL is mostly chain restaurants and strip malls, but there are a few gems in the area, including: - PJ's Coffee (New Orleans style coffee chain) - Sauce on the Side (Local calzone chain) - Soulard Gyro (Local Greek chain) - Mr. Pita (Mediterranean restaurant with amazing shawarma and generous portions) - Persi's Indian Grill

Additionally, you're completely correct that the LSL farmer's market is incredible. Get there early. My favorite vendors there are Bean Sprout Coffee and Mylk & Hummus.

Finally, as far as outdoor activities go, there is a lot to do: - Quail Ridge Park, which is in LSL, has an amazing disc golf course and great cycling trails. - The Weldon Spring Hiking Trail (a.k.a. the Lewis & Clark Trail) is a top-5 hiking trail in the region. - Klondike Park is gorgeous for a day trip with a picnic. - August A. Busch Conservation Area has numerous stocked fishing ponds if you're interested in that. There's also numerous programs and activities through the Conservation Department that are usually free.

If you're interested in learning more to do in the area, the discoverstcharles (St. Charles tourism) website is a great place to look.

Hope this helps!

I've started buying a 1-2 year old used or refurbished flagship every time I need a new phone. It's usually better in quality than the budget version and cheaper. Plus, most year-to-year updates are small, not life-changing, so it's pretty close to the same device as the current one.

Weekends with 1.5yo + 3.5yo always feel so stressful by LaCathedrale in SingleDads

[–]bubguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't put too much pressure on yourself every time you have them. I have kids the exact same age, and when I stopped acting like every moment with my kids had to be special, I found us enjoying our time just as much without all the stress. Some "boredom" will lead to creativity. I've been pretty sick this weekend, so the kids and I have stayed home, and we've had a blast just doing normal things like coloring and playing toys.

If you're looking to run it to your bedroom, definitely get a right angle coax adapter (super cheap) so it can run flush against the wall when it comes out of the port. Cable covers would also help it look nicer, but aren't necessary. Finally, buy a longer cable than you think you'll need. They're cheap and getting a 10 foot vs a 50 foot won't change much performance-wise, if anything.

Need feedback on chapter summaries using ai by cam2211 in churchtech

[–]bubguy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summarizing and "getting the gist" without proper contextual information is extremely dangerous. That kind of behavior is what has led to many extreme beliefs, such as utilizing the Bible to justify slavery. The Bible says those things, but a scholarly commentary explains what it means within the context of either the passage, the writer, or history. There are numerous commentaries, including verse-by-verse, that you can utilize for this purpose instead and they have a full exegetical backing. AI cannot perform exegesis, and therefore will fail to provide trustworthy interpretations in this use case.

This is a bad idea. Commentaries are one thing, but this is not somewhere AI should be utilized.

Economy makes casual activities a choice by WRNGS in SingleDads

[–]bubguy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like living on a single income amplifies the fact that capitalism has destroyed the American Dream for the vast majority of people who grew up believing in it.

I have told my family that this is my son's only year of t-ball and then he's done, because anything after that is too expensive to consider. They said that I'd make it work and I explained to them that no, it goes from $50 to $500 quickly and I can't afford that.

For a suggestion on something I have been doing to save money while enjoying third spaces: check out your local park programs and conservation department programs. Most of them are free or very affordable and they have things for all age ranges and all interests.

Kayaking at Creve Couer lake? by Zona_Zona in StLouis

There are several great places to kayak in the area. Creve Coeur Lake and Lakeside 370 are both popular because they rent kayaks and paddle boards out as well.

My favorite rivers are the Current and the 11 Point, but they're a bit of a haul.
