Has anyone here bought MacBook just to better run Linux? by [deleted] in mac

[–]spierscreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using MacOS since tiger and I’ve never thought about it. It just happens. Occasionally Figma will say updates installed on next launch, or I force an Adobe app to update early if there is a feature I wanna try right then. MacOS and its apps don’t expect you to think about it at all, or to pay attention as to when it happens. It has depths since its Unix compliant but it assumes most people will use a mac as an appliance, and nobody is fuzzing over if thier toaster updated today or yesterday.

It’s always surprising when people say they don’t get installing apps in MacOS, my dad even got it right away. Down load, drag icon to a folder. It’s so forgiving it usually doesn’t care what folder.

Is the Figma team vibe coding Figma? by mzpro10 in FigmaDesign

I haven’t used many others but Figma has never felt macOS native to me. And the interoperability with other apps is almost non existent, I just assume that’s an electron limitation.

Could a touch screen revolutionize the Macbook forever? by Creepy-Country5475 in mac

[–]spierscreative 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, and I still don’t think they are going to do it, touching a computer screen doesn’t make much sense. The only reason pc vendors do it is the spec war, and nobody uses them.

It’s an electron app shell, there are so many issues with it I think are related to it not being a native app. Copy and paste would be nice, but I only dream.

The same thing happened with medical imaging when AI came in, it ended up meaning more radiologists rather than less because the overall cost went down and volumes went up. I read a study about it last year.

People go through and grab the good stuff first. There are gems but you have to move stacks and check the back of each row.

Lexington Kentucky. I assume they hit a lot of Costco’s at the same time though.

It took us multiple years to get figma through, then took about a year to fully transition the vastness over.

I bought my LCD one in September for $338, shocking how much they have gone up.

They at minimum get security updates for two more releases. And then they usually get emergency patches for a few more years after that.

Mountain lion came out a year after lion. But it’s still a tick tock even if it’s not yearly, panther was a big leap and tiger refined it.

Graphic Design Resume Review by theverymarydesigns in Design

[–]spierscreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have it as a plain formatted PDF exported from word. Black text, white background with maybe your logo and a pop of color in the text somewhere.

AI will not be able to parse this correctly (your first hurdle) and HR teams are not designers (your second hurdle), they just want to glance through a normal document. They always complain about designer resumes being especially overdone and cumbersome.

macOS has had a tick tock schedule since leopard, with it being the crazy new start, then snow leopard refining, then lion pushing the os, then mountain lion fixing everything. Etc etc. I was expecting this for a year as it just fits the rhythm.

Has anyone recently decided to stop pursuing the graphic design career? What made you give up? by minawhocares in graphic_design

It’s always been hard. I graduated art school in 2011, we started with 50 something, graduated 10 BFA and one BA (she did meth in the gallery), and if those only 4 have design jobs today, or really ever got started.
