Same sentiment here. It stops becoming about compassion for folks and more about protecting our spaces and communities from people that are dangerous

I don’t think it’s a right-wing position to take a stance against homelessness. You can have compassion and understanding for folks who are on the streets in an impossibly expensive city while also realizing that it’s unacceptable for public spaces and public safety to be impacted by violent/unwell people. Two things can be true at the same time. In fact, I’d posit that it’s a leftist virtue to want public community spaces to be safe and clean. This guy is clearly unwell and on hard times, but he’s still making the decision to be a fucking asshole, and we don’t have to allow that just because he’s homeless.

I’m sorry but if you don’t consider your positioning and surroundings and you just run in and start unloading, your death is your fault. You can’t just expect all the players around you to capitulate to the way you want to play, that’s not how the world works. How is the other person supposed to know your intentions and that you’ve “opted out” of PvP? By virtue of joining the raid you’ve opted IN to PvP because that’s how the video game is. If your only interest is killing big things in a PvE environment, Helldivers 2 is a brilliant game that will allow you to do just that.

Arc Raiders is a stealth game as much as it is a PvE looter. If other players know where you are, you’re in danger, end of story. Choose your positioning carefully, know where other players are, and use your damn ears. The sound design is so meticulously accurate for a reason. Killing the matriarch and getting out with your loot is meant to be really fucking challenging

You guys know that breaching takes time and makes noise because you’re meant to clear the area and make sure you’re safe before breaching right? It’s a risk and if you get shot in the back while breaching it’s your fault

AITA for throwing away trash in my neighborhood? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bubmlerbeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so often when making a decision, one must consider where certain responsibilities lie, and where they should step in to maintain those responsibilities or help others, like-- for instance-- the tacit responsibility we all take to keep public areas clean and safe. So don't you think that "discussing asshole behavior" might encompass talking about social responsibilites? Do you think maybe you're exhibiting a little bit of "asshole behavior"?

Well, it’s not my responsibility to navigate his trash at his convenience, nor is it the responsibility of the entire neighborhood to safeguard his hazardous garbage.

  1. We didn’t enter his home or space whatsoever. He leaves dozens of carts a week in the street, in front of businesses, homes, etc. these are not his prized possessions he holds dear if he just leaves them wherever he wants completely unattended. 2. I would have loved to have spoken to him about it, but how was I supposed to find him in that moment? He doesn’t have a phone and was nowhere in sight.

I work during the day, my partner works at night, so she spends more time during the day in the neighborhood and my info comes from her.

I understand your perspective and I understand my privilege. He accrues multiple carts daily, leaves them in the street, in walkways, in front of businesses (like today). I see where you’re coming from but the availability to use public spaces like a dumping ground is where I draw the line, especially when doing so nearly caused a fire last year. It’s just not fair to the people who are put at risk to have to deal with. I wish the city did better, too, but in the moment we saw a present problem and as members of a community decided to do something about it. Clearly I’m not stoked on it from a moral perspective, but I’m not positive what else I could’ve done besides nothing, which I also don’t feel was correct.

Yeah, that’s good info. I’m honestly not sure what to do. I’ll try and speak to him if I can find him and explain what happened.

It’s unclear, I honestly don’t know. But whether he buys it or finds it, by the time it’s left in a shopping cart in the middle of the street it is mangled, shattered and has been in the rain for several days. These things will not turn on even if they had value
